First released on December 9, 1994, Tekken was initially an arcade game but a year later made its way to the PlayStation. The game was met with instant success and critical acclaim. It's actually the first game to sell over one million copies on the PlayStation. With several records in the "Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008," it comes as no surprise why many fighting game fans adore the franchise.

The titles of the video game sequels include Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 4, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion. Tekken 6 is the most recent release and is also the first major release to be on the Xbox 360.

In 2001, "Tekken Forever" was published by Imagi comics that focused on the Kazama family as well as a character from "Tekken Tag Tournament," which goes by the name Unknown. The comic book had only one issue.

Like many other video game series, it was only a matter of time before a live action film was developed. The film releases in 2010 on a budget of $35 million. Directed by Dwight H. Little, whose responsible for "Anacondas: the Hunt for the Black Orchid," "Murder At 1600," and "Marked For Death." He also has credits from television series such as "Prison Break," "Bones" and "The X-Files."

The film stars John Foo who plays Jin Kazama. Foo also worked on "Batman Begins" as a member of the League of Shadows Warriors...but was uncredited. The film also features Ian Anthony Dale as Kazuya Mishima and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Heihachi Mishima to name a few characters.

Film Plot:

"In the year of 2039, after World Wars destroy much of civilization as we know it, the remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations; the mightiest of which is the Mishima Zaibatsu. In order to keep the masses down, Mishima sponsors the King of Iron Fist Tournament, or Tekken, in which fighters battle until one is left standing, who in turn will receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth. We are introduced to this violent world through the eyes of Jin Kazama who enters the tournament in order to avenge the death of his mother that he blames upon the Mishima Zaibatsu's most powerful and controlling chairman – Heihachi Mishima. He knows that the only way to get close enough to Mishima to kill him is to win the tournament, but in doing so, he begins to uncover his own past and inner demons as well as exposing a dark underbelly to Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity."

Whispers68: After seeing how video game adapted films have been handled, I have no faith whatsoever in this one. That last tragedy known as "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li," was the icing on the cake but you know what, I'll try and keep an open mind on this one.

Trust me guys...I'm in the same exact boat as you guys, where I want it to do well but I have to also remember the horribly adapted movies based on video games over the years..."Street Fighter: The Chun-Li..." "Max Payne," "Dead or Alive," etc
I didn't know you guys aren't familiar with the movie though. I'll post a video right now

WHISPERS @ I liked MAX PAYNE???! And DOA was pretty cool in its own way, and a bit of fun too lol!

Street fighter wasn't great, granted, but just coz its only a 35 mill movie, don't mean its gonna be bad, this could be a lil gem in a sea of sh*T! : D

@LEEE

I didn't mention the film's budget as the culprit behind why I'm not expecting anything from this movie. LoL. Cloverfield was made on a budget of $25 million...I own the Blu-ray. District 9 was a low budget film, in December I'm getting the Blu-ray. Other words, low production budget doesn't bother me for video game based films, it's just the misguided approach they make and the expectation that audience members like myself should enjoy the subject matter. I really disliked Payne and pretty much every video game movie recently released. Chun-Li...good Lord! The acting, the plot, casting; just disgusting. That movie was just awful. But if you enjoyed them, that's fine as well.

But trust me, budget has nothing to do with why I'm not expecting any changes when this film comes out but as I said, I'll try to keep an open mind. But chances are, my perception won't be incorrect.

I initially thought it was the trailer until maybe when I started paying attention to the voice over work and the actors used. LoL

Seriously, Max Payne sucked!
But i hate mark Wahlburg, so maybe that's why i didn't like it. He's a shitty actor. There's this scene in MP, where he's looking at a picture on the fridge his kid drew, and he laughs like he's having a hart attack. The kids a freaking baby! How could it draw a picture. Is it some kind of Savant?!!!!

p.s. TEKKEN!!!!!
Ugh - 11/5/2009, 7:41 AM
How the hell can't they get this formula right. Buncha fighters fight in a tournament, show some of the more pronounced personalities, hire martial arts trained stuntmen, and pow. God I miss movies like Bloodsport and the first Mortal Kombat... O', and @Tea, epic picture.
tazmaniak - 11/5/2009, 9:44 AM
What do you think of the King of Fighters?

Whispers68 - 11/5/2009, 10:28 AM
@Teabag

Dude I hated everything the movie stood for (Max Payne). I went to see it in theaters...paid with my own funds, so I clearly wanted to see it but in the first five minutes, you can usually tell if a movie is going to suck big time. Well, that movie was crappy.

@Ugh
And you're so right...why can't they get this formula right? I don't get why they can get the most intricate/sappy films correct but simply putting fighters together to well, fight, it always turns out to be dog poo. Why?
HINKLEY - 11/5/2009, 2:52 PM
u guys are joking right? this is so obviously fan made!
Minotauro - 11/5/2009, 6:05 PM
@Kenny - You got to be fu(ck)ing kidding me!! You just disappointed me bro... :(
Whispers68 - 11/5/2009, 8:41 PM
@Teabga

Dude, you're too silly man. LOL

"Hinkley@ was it the fan made trailer bit above the clip that gave it away lol :P"

@ Hinkley
The trailer as Teabag pointed out, I wrote above as being "Fan made." the movie details I posted/image, etc is the actual film being released in 2010 but I figured I should post a fan made trailer just because...I did however clarify that the trailer is fan made.

@Whispers - I know what you mean about max payne. How did hollywood take a game known for its noir style main character, over the top crazy action, and technological Slo-mo wire-fu gun fighting and ignore all of that? I'd even forgive the story being a little skewed (these things happen when adapting a story) except that the story in the game is told through COMIC BOOK PAGES! so you have both a storyboard and a script staring you in the face. Arg, that movie honked me the crap off.
