Monster Director Patty Jenkins Also On The List To Helm THOR 2 For Marvel Studios

After Brian Kirk, we have a new director on the list for Marvel Studios' THOR sequel. And that is Patty Jenkins. She is best known for directing the critically acclaimed film Monster starring Charlize Theron. Recently, Jenkins also directed the Pilot episode of AMC's The Killing. Deadline has more info:

"Marvel Studios is getting close to naming a director for Thor 2, and I’m hearing they might go with a surprise: Patty Jenkins, best known for directing Charlize Theron to an Oscar in Monster, and also for directing the superb pilot for AMC’s The Killing. This would be a real surprise, because women directors aren’t usually high on the list for superhero movies. Let’s see how this plays out, but it looks pretty serious."

So, what do you think?

THOR 2 is set for July 26, 2013 release!

There would only be one option in that poll theWorld, lol. "I want Brian Kirk" (I'm bias because his work on two of my favorite shows - Luther and Dexter - was excellent)

well, if man can weld straight on a steel then she can, just look at Deep Impact and Hurt Locker. it's a first in history of a superhero film in Hollywood.

. . . I don't know; I kind of enjoyed Branagh's mix of fantasy and Shakesphere. Gonna be hard to see someone else's take on the God of Thunder

Not exactly what I expected; most definitely an interesting choice. I would certainly not mind this at all, actually.

@Intruder, why?I've got to believe Kirk has more experience/talent than Jenkins.Sure, she's directed a feature film, but she's only directed one feature film and a total of 4 TV episodes.

Kirk has also only directed 1 feature film, but he's also directed a good 32 episodes from about 13 different series and a couple of TV movies. And several of those episodes were cinematic like a theatrical film.

I think he'd be a much better choice.

I loved Monster, but surely Kirk has more experience with action etc? I dunno, I'd happily see what both had to offer

Oh noes, a vagina to shoot a superhero??? Seriously, lets cut the crap. As long as it's not Lexi Alexander, we'll be fine. And let's face it, whoever she will be, she'll have a hell of a blueprint to show her the ropes.

I'd choose her over Miles Morales!

The ONLY thing I'll say (and I will preface this by saying that I support female directors in full) is that Thor is arguably the most "manly-man" of the Marvel superhero movies. I do feel like it would require a guy to fully get it. That said, she's extremely talented and if it does go to her, I will be extremely curious to see the result.

@ Intruder- She's done both tv and big screen, so I don't think there is much concern over pacing. This might be a good thing as well if Enchantress is the villian. I could see her making this character more ruthless and vengeful than we have ever seen!

@Optimus83 well Lost in Translation is a good movie too but I don't want Sofia Ford coppola directing Thor

I just hope it doesn't turn into a "TIm Burton to Joel Schumacher" type of deal. She better not put nipples on Thor's helmet.

Hmmm, I dunno. Guess I have to trust Marvel's judgement on this one, I hope they wouldn't pick someone who would destroy Thor and its franchise so who knows.

@Intruder, his movie may have flopped, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad movie.

Also, you say TV directors make you nervous for live action films, but several good filmmakers made the jump from TV to film.

J.J. Abrams - from Alias/Lost to Mission Impossible/Star Trek
Joss Whedon - from Buffy/Angel to Serenity/Avengers

Danny Boyle - made the jump from TV to Shallow Grave/Trainspotting

There are dozens of directors who went directly from TV to film and were very successful.I personally have a lot of faith in TV directors doing films.
