Set against the thrilling and exotic backdrop of a “galaxy far, far away,” Star Wars is perfectly suited to the immersive 3D theatrical experience, and Episode I delivers some of the Saga’s most stunning and spectacular sequences – from the Naboo invasion to the Tatooine Podraces to the climactic lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi. Supervised by Industrial Light & Magic, the meticulous conversion is being done with utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.

Thanks to Industrial Light & Magic for the heads up.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is the first film in the franchise to be released in 3D, and it's coming out on February 10, 2012.

Liked it and I will see Episode 1 but not in 3d. It was the first star wars movie I saw in the theaters. I like the movie I was sad when it was over.

@Deadpoolocan yeah a lot where. HaHa to each his own. I did not have as much expectations at that age. I was a young kid who rarely saw movies. I never had the experience of seeing the old trilogy in theaters and waiting years and years for the prequels all the while building up expectations.

This is basically what Star Wars amounts to these days - a big marketing campaign.

I seen the Original Star Wars:A New Hope in the theaters in 1977 and I was hooked. I never thought I would get sick of this.....but i did.....Damn you Lucas!

Eh, I had my time with Star Wars. I was lucky enough to see A New Hope in '97 with my dad, God rest his soul. Saw Phantom Menace with my mom, Attack of the Clones alone, and took my little brother to Revenge of the Sith when he was 7. Fond memories abound, but I have all six films on DVD (somewhere in my girl's house) and I have no great love for 3D, as I can get plenty immersed in a movie without it. So no, George gets no more of my cash for this one. Although the ad was good for a chuckle. It was like PG Robot Chicken.

Not funny. The only thing good about Phantom Menace was Darth Maul. At least Abbott & Costello Meets Frankenstein didn't make Dracula look like a fool and still got laughs.

Much like Lion King (still the best 3D movie I've seen--yes, better than Avatar--), Star Wars lends itself to 3D well. Say what you want about Lucas, but his shots are already layered with forced depth so 3D would just be enchancing what's already there.

Anyone know if he's releasing the entire series in 3D or just Phantom Menace?

To all the haters, this is lucas's films, he makes the decisions cause its his films, plus the prequels were great, original trilogy die hards are just pissed that the prequels arent exactly like the originals

Why were the prequels bad? Well, that's a pretty easy one. They weren't really movies. They were video games. Why would Lucas film a video game and release it as a movie? Money, lots and lots of money. Money from the movie but more importantly, money from the merchandising. Oh, Phantom Menace wasn't all bad, but they got progressively worse. Attack of the Clones (I can't believe that called it that) had a small part that was good, Yoda v. Dooku but Sith was all video game. I can just see the little kid using his controller to jump Anakin and Amidala over and around obstacles like a very expensive game of Frogger. Ugh. Give me Howard the Duck over Revenge of the Sith any day.

Funny. My kid will love it. And honestly I don't have to think a movie is awesome to enjoy it. As long as its not horrible & I can enjoy it with my Son, what is there I should complain about?
