My prediction is that if he does get nominated, he won't win but will get nominated next year for him performance as Gollum and win it then. Or he could win 2 years in a row, now that would be something =D

Personally, I feel that his Gollum performance is the best he has ever given, he's one of my favorite actors

As much as I'd like Serkis to get an Oscar for the role, I don't see it happening. It all stems back to 2009, when The Dark Knight was refused a Best Picture nomination (it had a legitimate shot), in favor of some poorly-reviewed, badly made Kate Winslet Holocaust movie. The Academy is just full of out-of-touch old farts.

This has been a tough call for me. Andy Serkis deserve all the credit in the world and is a phenomenal actor. I have no doubt that he is an oscar worthy actor as well. Gollum, Kong and Ceasar could not have been what they are with out his physical and emotional acting ability. On the other hand, the reason I'm not completely sold on the idea that he should be nominated is that "digital make-up" as opposed to traditional make-up allows for directors to make post-production tweaks in the performance, both physically and emotionally. This is not to say that they did inhance his performance, never the less it is a possibility. This might give a certain (however small) advantage over actors who are seen on screen. I am definately open to anyone convincing me otherwise though.

Was he really that good or was it just acting opposite James Fraonce making him look good by comparison? Kinda like a chick taking an ugly friend with you to a bar to make her look hotter...

He should at least get nominated, so in some way he's been recognised. If he won it (which I doubt would happen) then there really would be justice in the world.

I'm hoping Gary Oldman get's a long overdue oscar this year. That being said, Andy Serkis does deserve a nomination.

is the oscars didn't give best picture to AVATAR, you can tell that they dont take motion capture very nicely

He deserves it. It takes a lot to bring that much life, depth, and emotion to a character without using words

Which category will he be nominated in? Because i can't tell if he'd be classed as Lead or Supporting actor, just because, even though the films about Cesar, Franco has the lines etc, and is, you know, actually on screen.

He'll struggle to get nominated for the Lead though, against the likes of George Clooney, Leo DiCaprio, Gary Oldman, Ryan Gosling etc.

Though i hope he wins something, his was the most powerful performance of the year, for me anyway.
