Next summer, "Man of Steel" is coming to the big screen. The film is from director Zack Snyder and producers Charles Roven, Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer & Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Superman flying was freaking great! But it reminded me to much of the first Iron Man Trailer, except he's flying up.

I would have like to see something different.

This has some of the best cinematography I've seen in a comic book adaptation.

From the look of the teaser trailer and the little bits of detail i've gotten, I think were gonna see a Smallville element to this when it comes to his trails in becoming superman. I got a feeling that all those images we've seen of him with his beard that he actually doesn't have any powers and that one of the task Jor-El gives him is to live amongst the people as one of them and everytime he decides to help someone he starts to regain his abilities. I think when he goes back to the fortress of solitude this is when he gains his ability to fly, that clip we see might be the first time he actually flies hence to reason it looked like he was struggling to break to sound barrier until he stretch his arms out in front of him.

I hope there will be no Smallville elements/inspiration. It would ruin the movie for me.

I finally got a chance to hear and see the Russell Crowe narration and I've got to say, it makes me look forward to the epicness of Man of Steel. Since most people I've talked to have heard Kevin Costner's version, I assume they are going with a more grounded approach to general audience interpretation of the Man of Steel, which totally makes sense. They both serve a very different purpose. Those who cherish Christopher Reeve's presence will remember the great sense of destiny that Crowe now reiterates. And for everyone who is aware of the Man of Steel being the Batman Begins for Superman, then Costner's speech also inspires.

My question would be, what if they fuse the two? While it probably isn't realistic, I think it'd bring depth to a teaser trailer, conveying godliness and humanity all in one. As for the Lord of the Rings track behind the teaser, as a critique for its utilization in this teaser, it captures the essence of a very pure, pristine focus, a birth (or rebirth) if you will. It's like a light slowly starting to shine, shimmering faintly. Sure the track could've been different as it does sound off-putting for those who know its origin, but its purpose is just and rightfully claimed as the initiator to a new Superman.

As this is only a teaser, something tells me we have yet to see what happens when that light is at full burst. And I for one can't wait to see the clouds break.

Great teaser. I prefer the Jonathan Kent one. And I cant understand how Supes is "struggling" to break the sound barrier. He does it in less than 10 seconds.

TO GIVE A BRAND NEW INTERESTING SUPERMAN TO THE AUDIENCE YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOBODY HAS SEEN BEFORE..IT LOOKS GOOD, I CAN'T RELATE ANYTHING FROM THE TRAILER TO ANY OF THE PAST SUPERMAN MOVIES...THIS LOOKS LIKE IT'S GONNA DO JUST THAT.

both voice overs worked well and both on different levels, one can only hope that zac has kept within the realms of supermans origins in this and not made too many big changs a superman fans are less forgiving than many others.
i only hope the producers named dont interfere

Jeremy Jahns said it best about the two different versions: One is about choice (Pa Kent), the other is about destiny (Jor El).

@ GUNSMITH
I think he's hitching it, because he wants to feel more human? Also the synopsis of the movie says Clark is in his 20's. In some of the Superman story lines, it takes him a long time of being exposed to our yellow sun before most of his powers develop; maybe he's just too young to fly at this point of the movie?
