Now this is amazing. Today at PAX, Hideo Kojima has finally revealed something fans have been waiting for: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. The upcoming video game is described as an open-world prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5. So to make it clear, this is not MGS5. As far as the story goes, details are kept under wraps, but we do know that Snake is a part of it. The footage below is incredible, and according to Play Station Blog, "The demo begins with an in-engine, real-time cinematic set in a rain-drenched prison camp, and ably shows off FOX Engine’s advanced shader, lighting, and particle effects."

Check it out:

Here are some more details thanks to Play Station Blog:

"Kojima pointed out nearby APCs and helicopters, confirming that Snake can commandeer and pilot them if he so desired. As if to prove the point, Snake hopped into a Jeep to gain access, evading a roaming tank in the process. Kojima also showed that you can deploy a flare “at any time” to call in a friendly helicopter — it will let you fly between missions, and even to other countries. He even confirmed that the player can customize the music played by the helicopter, which in the demo blared out Ride of the Valkyries."

It has been confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes won't be a next-gen game. No release date yet though.

Well, although this looks pretty good, 4 was absolute trash so I've got reservations. If they can bring back the magic of snake eater, I'm sold.

Doesn't feel remotely like a solid snake game.

I miss this snake:

People didn't like MSG4? It was a masterpiece of a conclusion. I can't wait till this game because how different it will be. That is the amazing thing about these games, they are all a bit different in their own way

@ronnie42 - I kinda like that Snake aged in the story. To me that's a problem with western storytelling in comics, for example. No one ages, dies permanently, etc.

I'm not a big anime fan but they certainly have a more serious way of treating their timelines. We could learn one or two things from them.

MGS4 was mindblowingly fantastic. That last fight synced with all the music from all the Solid games give me chills to this day

^People only hated Raiden for 2 reasons:

1. He wasn't Snake, and all of the early trailers and reveals lead people to believe that Snake was the main.

2. It was the popular thing to do.

I've never had a problem with any incarnation of the character, even the nod to him in MSG3 was pretty funny.

@dionysios Big boss isn't dead if you remember the mid credits of mgs4 he turned up to be alive and the big boss dead body was a decoy, this game is a prequel to when Naked snake had just become new big boss, this is sometime after peace walker

Amazing.
However, i'm not going to play it until SOMEBODY releases a good hop on point. I played MGS2 way back when, and i tried playing MGS4. amazing games, but they don't make sense at all unless you're a die hard fan.

Amazing graphics, I played them all so there is no question I'll be getting this one too. To the guy who said this doesnt feel like a metal gear solid game, we seen literally a minute if that of actual gameplay so I'm not sure how you figure it's not like a metl gear game,

@Dionysios
It's Naked Snake (Big Boss). Here's how I know.
1. MSF logo on his shoulder (from Peacewalker)
2. He has to rescue Chico and Paz (from Peacewalker)
3. He wears an eye patch, big boss lost an eye in Snake Eater, Solid Snake never lost an eye (his eye patch in MGS4 is a small plastic looking computer not just a leather patch like in this trailer.)

as for the too modern tech, in Peacewalker you create a research and development team to create next generation hardware. (for example you start with a Sony cassette player and upgrade it to an mp3 player by the end of the game even thought it's still the 1970s and even CD players shouldn't exist yet.)

MGS4 is the end of the story's continuity. So this and MGS 5 should be between the events of Peacewalker and Metal Gear (the MSX 1987 game). If you haven't played Peacewalker (and you should because it has tons of content and great co-op) you can get it in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on either xbox 360 or ps3. It also comes with the MSX Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake games, which didn't get releases in America. (I don't count Metal Gear for NES because it's a censored and poorly translated mess that's almost unplayable)

whew, sorry for the tl;dr post, but as a Metal Gear fan I figured I'd try to clear that up for you.
