There is a lot to talk about the first official trailer for the Shane Black-helmed Iron Man 3, which shows Tony Stark being left truly on his own against a powerful enemy. The sombre tone and intense moments from the trailer suggest that we will see something a little bit different this time around. While we have all seen the trailer (probably dozens of times by now), let's take a look at some of the scenes that are quite interesting and that you might have missed. Possible spoilers below, so in case you don't want to know anything, stop reading this right now.

- ARMOR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN

This will probably be the key element of the film. In the trailer, we see how the new Iron Man armor acts on its own. Now, those scenes could only be dream sequences, but if we look at the official plot synpopsis for the film (as well as that the film is based on a comic book series Extremis) all signs point to a control change between Tony and the suit. In the synopsis, it says: " As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?"

- THE AVENGERS CONSEQUENCES

You thought that all the destruction and deaths in The Avengers was going to be ignored? Not so fast. At the beginning of the trailer, we hear Tony Stark saying how he has trouble sleeping and nightmares because of what happened, and clearly, we will see his struggle as he tries to fix everything. It was a good idea to do this, as it sets a story for other characters like Thor and Captain America, which sequels we will see in 2013 and 2014.

- PEPPER AND HAPPY IN DANGER

In the trailer, there are two moments that show a situation where people who are very close to Tony, are in danger. The first one is Jon Favreau's character Happy Hogan, a long-time bodyguard of Tony Stark. We see him lying on the floor, heavily injured. The second moment? A rather intense moment with Pepper seemingly being held captive, where we see her screaming and crying. Now, will Happy or Pepper meet their end? That remains to be seen. But, after the "death" of a fan-favorite character in The Avengers, it seems like stakes need to be high in Phase Two.

- A LOVE TRIANGLE: TONY, PEPPER, ALDRICH

Aldrich Killian, played by Guy Pearce, is a character we don't know much about. In the comics, Killian developed the Extremis virus and sold it to terrorists. It's still not clear how big of a role it is, but it seems we will some conflict between Tony and Aldrich, especially over Pepper. We don't see much of the character in the trailer, and it's definitely not a coincidence when Stark says "...there is a hundred people who want to kill me", the screen cuts to Killian. We'll see how much problems is he going to cause Tony in the film.

- MANDARIN AND HIS TEN RINGS

The Mandarin is the archenemy of Iron Man. A character fans have been waiting to see since the first film. And now, they got their wish. Played by an Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley, it should be great to see this character finally come to life. In the trailer (even though it's just for a second), we can spot that Mandarin will have his ten rings. Iron Man films have always been a bit grounded in Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it remains to be seen if these rings will have any fuction in the film.

- MYSTERY CHARACTER

For a brief moment in the trailer, we see a woman pushing Stark against a wall, while he looks all beaten up. This could very well be Stephanie Szostak's character, and there is a possibility that she might be playing a female version of Firebrand, who gets recruited by Mandarin in the comics. The reason why I'm putting this on the list, is because Szostak's name is pretty high on the credits, meaning that the character could be pivotal.

- A WINTER SETTING

You see, there is something Shane Black likes to do with the films he is writing or directing. Four of the film he worked on are set during the holiday season (Lethal Weapon, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Last Boy Scout). Set photos suggested we will see this happening with Iron Man 3 too, and now I guess it's confirmed, based on the trailer.

There you go. Do you have a favorite moment from the trailer? Share it below.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black. The film is set for May 3, 2013 release.

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

I hope we get to see at least one other Avenger in this movie or a hint to Thanos. Infinity Gems, maybe!

I noticed these but good job pointing them out :) Another commenter noticed it looks like Happy has blue blood coming out of him, leading to the question if he is an LMD... Tony did mention the LMD in the Avengers so maybe.

Also at :40 seconds in, one of the display cases is cracked, and it looks as if one of his robots is wearing a dunce cap

Since they are going the Extremis route, then armor is connected to Tony mentally, which could explain while Tony was having a nightmare the suit seemed to detect Pepper as a possible threat.

I'm sure the Rings will have their powers. Maybe that's why they chose another technological villain in Iron Man 2. They probably wanted to introduce the magical and mystical side of the universe in Thor and Avengers first.

The mystery character is Maya Hansen.

While I do think that there will be some reference to the events that happened in the Avengers, I don't think that's what Tony's talking about when he mentions New York and nightmares in the trailer. Wasn't there rumors of a scene being filmed where there was a large explosion that killed civilians? I mean when he's talking about it, there's shots of burnt shadows on walls. My feeling is there's gonna be an explosion in New York in the first act of the movie, and that Tony would be somewhat responsible. Whether he didn't stop it in time or something else. Anyway, otherwise I totally agree with you.

@Originator2000 Maya Hansen is played by Rebecca Hall who can be seen looking startled, on the ground, in the trailer. Its not Maya.

Something else you could add - I noticed in the very last few shots as Iron Man is sinking with his house into the ocean, it APPEARS that the cables are actually entwining him and dragging him down..watch it again.

I don't think it's dreams when the armor is shown attacking Tony and Pepper. What they are wearing (see first image of article), state of the house (all crumbled), just not adding up to a nightmare to me. Also, we know the suit(s) can now operate without a pilot because we learned he would control 47 suits in the movie. So I'm thinking not dreams.

@RorMachine That could explain why he has to have the surgery in which the Extremis is injected in him.

Just thought of something...With how the films in Phase 1 taking place almost at the same time as eachother, overlapping if u will, do u think the title for Caps next film " The Winter Soldier " could have a double meaning?

I'm talking about that we may see the actual character Winter Soldier, and just maybe Caps sequel story may take place around the same timeframe as IM3 in the winter, in a way dubbing Cap himself the " Winter soldier "

Silly i know, but its a great way of Marvel working with words here, what do u guys think?

Tony's house is attacked during the day. Just something to keep in mind, some of the action scene's at his house seem like they happen during the night.

Did any one else notice that tony uses EXTREMIS in the trailer?? I think that's why his suit is attacking him. He hasn't learned how to control it yet.

The machine Dummy is wearing the Dunce cap, not one of the armors. Nice attention to details though.

It's funny how Mandarins rings have always been tech based. The most magical then in the Iron Man verse is just alien tech.
