Don't Expect Alien Activity In IRON MAN 3; Kevin Feige Comments On The Mandarin's Ten Rings
While Marvel Studios already introduced magic and aliens to its big cinematic universe, it seems we won't see any of that in the Shane Black-directed film. More after the jump...
"Some people call me a terrorist. I consider myself a teacher." Those words pretty much tell us what can we expect from Sir Ben Kingsley's portrayal of the iconic villain, 'The Mandarin'. In the trailer, we finally got a good look at his ten rings, but it remains to be seen what kind of purpose do they have. One thing seems to be confirmed: there won't be any magical elements to them. In the trailer analysis over at Entertainment Weekly, they got a quote from Kevin Feige about all this:
"Feige says we won’t get ice rays and fire beams from these rings, like in the comics, but what will we get? Smart money says they’re not just because the Mandarin has won a lot of Super Bowls."
In the comics, the ten rings have a near-limitless power and no Earth science can explain that power. Each ring has a function, so it will be very interesting to see what kind of use (if any) will they have in Iron Man 3. My guess: the rings will have some sort of technological fuction. Also, the site added this regarding the aliens:
"But this version of The Mandarin will not follow that same backstory, said Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios. Don’t expect aliens."
While aliens and magic were already introduced to Marvel Cinematic Universe (Thor, The Avengers), I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that we won't see any of that in this film.
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black. The film is set for May 3, 2013 release.
