Ninjas Spotted On The Set Of James Mangold's THE WOLVERINE

Other than the official image released last month, we haven't seen a whole lot from the James Mangold-directed film. Mostly, it's all set photos and blurry shots. That continues today too, as some new pics surfaced online featuring a ninja with a samurai sword. Check it out...

With the filming for The Wolverine wrapping up in a couple of weeks, it seems like we will see a lot more official stuff from the film. On October 29th, there will be a live chat (at 1PM PST) with director James Mangold and Hugh Jackman, where they will also show a behind-the-scenes footage. Who knows, we might see something else too. Right now, they are shooting the film in Sydney, and thanks to The Daily Telegraph, here are some new set photos featuring a sword-wielding ninja on top of the snowy roof top. Check it out:

"Once the cameras started rolling about 20 men dressed as black ninjas wielding samurai swords raced across the set. They waved their weapons around and at one point a ninja riding on a motorcycle sped straight through the middle of the scene."

"The ninjas were even scouring the snowy roof tops of one building."

Directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto, Svetlana Khodchenkova and Rila Fukushima, The Wolverine is set to hit theatres on July 26, 2013.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

Ninja Gaiden always made me wonder. Why was he kicking the crap out of doors and treasure chests all loud and shit? Again, not very ninja. If that Wolverine trailer even BARELY reminds me of Batman...I'll be shittin' bowlin' balls.

Giznad, I've always wondered that myself... sometimes Ryu Hayabusa acted more like a Samurai than a Ninja. The only ninja game that came close to having a stealth component was Tenchu.

There's no way they can frick this up like they did with Elektra.

I'm still upset that she didn't fight all of those ninjas in the last scene of her film, she simply blew them away. So much potential wasted.

Ahhh...The Hand. Why would a ninja carry a samurai sword?
LOL
LOL - 10/24/2012, 10:15 PM
@KungFuGee, that term's a popular misconception... both classes carry a Katana blade as a main choice of weapon, so it's not exclusively used by Samurais. The Ninjato blade was pretty much a "modern" innovation, but the traditional blades have always been a Katana.

It's going to take more than ninjas to make this crap watchable. Please let this be Jagoffs final run as Wolvie. PLEEEEESE.
phoenixforce9
phoenixforce9 - 10/24/2012, 10:32 PM
the image is correct (ninja carrying straight sword) the Ninjato is straight while the Katana has a curve. A ninja's sword is often built very differently than a Katana. Katanas take time and have higher quality. That ninja in the pic if def. carrying a ninjato not a katana.
LOL
LOL - 10/24/2012, 10:36 PM
@WolvieCBM - while SuspenseSmith could have said it better, he's right. As I said to KungFuGee, that term is basically a westernized misconception. The sword is traditionally a Katana. While it's true Ninjas have used straight blades before, the straight Ninjato (which basically is a straight version of a katana - sometimes shorter) has no historical precedent and is likely a modern invention.

Common weapons other than the Katana and Ninjato are as follows: kusarigama, explosives, include poison, makibishi, cane swords (shikomizue), land mines, [frick]iya (blowguns), poisoned darts, acid-spurting tubes, and firearms. The happō, a small eggshell filled with blinding powder (metsubushi), was also used to facilitate escape, etc.

heheh stupid website... they thought a F U Kiya (Japanese version of a blowgun) translated as a swearword. lol
