As fans are waiting to see who will helm the new Star Wars film, some filmmakers have decided to give their reaction to this subject. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, below we have reactions from directors such as J.J. Abrams (Star Trek), Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Shawn Levy (Real Steel), George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau), Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and Kevin Smith (Dogma). More below.

Jon Favreau:

"The idea of another trilogy that further shrouds the Force in mystery as its secrets are lost to time – that’s extremely compelling. I want so bad for it to be good. Can you imagine?"

George Nolfi:

"Star Wars literally defined ‘the magic of movies’ to me as a child. No other film had more impact on my subconscious desire to become a filmmaker. I can’t imagine a larger event-film for our generation than a sequel to Return of the Jedi."

J.J. Abrams:

"Part of me? Thrilled. Part of me? Terrified. Most of me? Thrillified."

Shawn Levy:

"The Star Wars franchise is nothing short of a generational touchstone…I literally can’t think of any comparable cultural phenom that has so pervasively shaped and galvanized viewers to the extent that Star Wars has. It’s embedded in my — and our — cultural DNA in a unique way and
these are enduring strands."

Kevin Smith:

"Lots of folks asking what I think about the recent announcement that Disney is now the proud owned of the STAR WARS universe. I'm all for it. Can't wait to see all the new movies they're gonna make. The 7 year old Kev who saw STAR WARS during its initial release in 1977 is finally gonna get all 9 STAR WARS movies he was promised back then. I'll be first in line to pay for whatever they do."

Robert Rodriguez:

"What an amazing world and legacy George Lucas has created — and it needs to continue in capable hands. I do think Disney is the best studio for the job and the fact that they brought in Kathleen Kennedy? I can’t imagine a better scenario. And 2015 can’t get here fast enough."

Walt Disney is planning to release Episode VII in 2015, followed by a new Star Wars film every two to three years. So, who would you like to see directing a new chapter?

I think favreau gets it. I think he's well aware of what screwed up the last three and I think he's got a good handle on how to redeem this series.

This franchise is about to get whored out to anyone and everyone till there is less than any recognisable integrity left in it and the entire world is sick of seeing the same shit done over and over again. Parodies, comedies, musicals, you name it, they'll make it and spread it out against every medium like butter over thousands of slices of bread.

And then they'll reboot it and do the same shit all over again while generation after generations of sad fanboys argues over what's canon, what's the best, what should never be made and where it should have ended in utter vain!

Abrams must be pissed, because he obviously used Star Trek to make his own Star Wars film.

For the first one, it should be either Spielberg or Jackson. Spielberg, Jackson and Scott should be the ones considered.

Thrillified fantastic new word. Perfect description. At least they won't have a problem with getting some great directors for it, those above seem to love the idea.

Steven Spielberg lost his Mojo after ''Jurassic park: The Lost World''

He went out of his way to have M.C. write the first an ONLY sequel to the Novel an barely used any of it.. An it was a great book.

He has even refused to be interviewed about it, What a puss... An all his movies after have been average or complete crap. So as much as i love OLD Spielberg he'd be terrible for this.

The movie needs to be about the ''Old Republic'' with some of the most dangerous an powerful Sith/Jedi, or bring back Darth Sidious since he does indeed clone himself an Luke fall's to the Dark-Side.

An Doesn't Sidious try an take control of Liea an Han's baby? I forget...

you think they will make it so that being a jedi or having knowledge of the force is a threat and then they hunt down the jedi? along with the conflict I heard someone else say on here that they feel threatened with the son of Vader alive..

Disney has a great opportunity here.

Episode VII needs to have Hamill, Fisher, and Ford for at least a few scenes. Whip them into shape (and maybe throw on some make-up or digital effects) and have them hand over the torch to a new generation. If any of them stay on for VIII and IX, it should be Hamill. I can easily see him taking on the mentor role in this trilogy.

I know it won't happen, but they should seriously consider completely redoing the prequel trilogy. New everything. Finish this sequel trilogy, make it as memorable and lovable as the originals. Then go back and do the same with the prequels.

Thrillified is the perfect word for this. If anything, I agree with Tony93. I say they go back and make the Force a mystery. NO CLONES! Less lightsabers. If there are lightsaber duels, non of that [frick]ing choreography unless it's like Troy (best sword fighting choreography I've seen). But really, I really want this movie to be great. And we need a good villain! The prequels messed up with killing Darth Maul off so early. Darth Vader is a tough villain to match however.

Leave it to smitty to have the longest resonse. After hearing all the nut gargling he did for tdkr, his opinion is as good as mud to me. And 'thrillified' sucks.

They ought to get Michael Bay to direct the next three. He was awesome with Armageddon and the Transformers.
