“Oz The Great and Powerful” imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff, Oz The Great and Powerful is set to hit theatres on March 8, 2013.

Ok, so this is a prequel to the original. I thought it was a remake. I hadn't realized that The Wizard and Dorothy both came from Kansas?

I'd like to see this expand to include more of the books. Anyone else seen the 1985 movie Return to Oz? Very underrated classic

the firsts two pictures look [frick]ing beautiful.

raimi is much better at making something feel like it's on an epic scale and all grand and everything.

that's one of the things i hated about webb's film. it was personal. but the final act didn't feel like enough of an epic showdown for a spidey film.

anyways, i'll probably check this film out. not a fan of franco, but weisz and kunis make up for it.

Looks really good. I'm not a big SFX centred film fan, but this one looks like it might have something special.
