Also, yeah, the list of movies is great (never saw a couple of them, definitely will watch soon), you can say that Mangold chose a very dark direction for this story.

'Shane' and 'The Outlaw Jose Wales' make sense. 'The French Connection' and 'Chinatown' are a little surprising (I haven't seen either of them, much to my chagrin). The others ring of authenticity in terms of the movies' environmental tone.

@AcidicHeart, every director draws inspiration from at least one thing. No movie is COMPLETELY original. And I wouldn't say he's trying to sell his movie by saying what he was inspired by, I think he's just saying that so we can get an idea of what it'll be like in our heads. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I remember being really stoked for the last Wolverine film, which also listed "Josey Wales" as its top influence. I have no faith in this. My ultimate hope is that this movie sucks so hard that Fox finally realizes Jackman is a crap Wolverine. Yes, I understand he played an excellent, effeminate, loving daddy figure, jazz hands Hugh Jackman in 4 other X films, but he's never played Wolverine. And btw, the fact that they haven't yet released a trailer means the studio knows this movie sucks.

@AcidicHeart

Quite a few directors come out and say what has influenced them, Nolen has done so for his Batman flicks so it doesn't mean the film will be bad.
