Speaking with Superhero Hype, director Renny Harlin talks more about his upcoming action/fantasy film Hercules 3D. He confirms that the movie, which stars Kellan Lutz as the mythological character, is now in post-production and he will turn turn in his cut in six weeks. He also discusses the film's storyline, saying that the origin tale is also a "great love story" at the center and that those who are unfamiliar with Hercules will see this as a proper introduction to the character. Harlin also gets into Hercules 3D's plot, action and scale.

"The action is really big and fun, but at the heart of it all is a great love story. This is an origin story, that introduces him to people who might not know who Hercules is or it's for those who have a cartoon-y idea of who he is, carrying around big things. This is the story of a young man who comes to terms with who he is and how he has much more responsibility. His father is Zeus and his mother was mortal, and he has a much bigger mission in his life. It's about fulfilling your destiny and responsibilities. It's an epic adventure story and he wants to be reunited with this girl who was ripped away from him. We have some amazing actors. You're going to see Kellan Lutz in a way you've never seen. It's just a big scale story and I'm excited to show the world next spring."

Hercules 3D stars Kellan Lutz, Liam McIntyre, Gaia Weiss and Scott Adkins. The film is targeting a March 2014 release date.

I wonder if Hera will drive him mad so he butchers his wife and kids. As that would be fun to see in 3D.

As far as I am concerned, there’s only one. I’ll take a Renny Harlin film over Brett Ratner one any day and Sunday.

Sure, Ratner has the Rock, while Harlin has Kellan Lutz; though Ratner’s blah-factor cancels out much of the coolness that is the Rock, while Lutz’s being a relative unknown has little effect on Harlin.

So the world will not suffer from a Hercules shortage in the near-future.

I want to see a good movie about him performing the 12 labors! Both movies coming out are about before and after the labors.

@MisterNiceGuy - Movies come in pairs (often much more than that including direct to video) for one specific reason: money. It's a small town and word gets around. When someone has an idea or a script, another studio will immediately start rushing their own script or buy one that is usually not as good and start production. Small studios will work of the promotion efforts to produce a low budget version and sail off of DVD sales.

Sometimes studios will have a race to production time (as with the case of Alexander years ago) and the loser will forfeit.

I would argue the reason for this is lack of creativity on the part of the executives, and fear of losing money, which is justified. Movies are one of the most dangerous gambles for business investors, especially lately.

If you guys think he can't do action please go see Arena. Awesome movie with a lot of fighting and I was very surprised by his acting.
