FAN CAST: Justice League Unlimited

FAN CAST: Justice League Unlimited

The seven founding members are cast with a unique perspective...

If you’ve seen any of my fan casts before you will know I’m not one for sifting through old articles and using the same actors others have mentioned in order to gain brownie points. A lot of these may seem unusual but please look past the pictures and read. If you still don’t like it then there is something at the end to at least give you a giggle!

Without further ado....

Superman (Kal-El/Clark Kent) - Joe Manganiello

Superman - Joe Manganiello

Superman - We all know who he is. In the Justice League he is their unofficial leader. When one of the other members is in trouble, he is their first call of help. When all else fails Superman doesn’t.

Joe Manganiello - Probably my most obvious casting. For a hero described above you need an actor not only with acting chops but a formidable physique and chin. Joe has all this. At 6’5” he will tower over almost any other actor and his muscles look like they could actually repel bullets! There have been many arguments for him in this role and many against. The biggest issue most people seem to have is “he doesn’t look like a farm boy from Kansas”. Guess what? Clark ISN’T from Kansas! His genes are Kryptonian. Having him look slightly different can only add to his feeling out of place thus adding to the character and adding to the story. Don’t buy that? OK, what’s the issue? His tan. Well, Superman does travel a lot. Still don’t want it? Hollywood can make a man bright blue so it is easily taken care of these days. Which ever way you look at it, the pros out-weigh the cons. And in most cases, the cons are expelled as nothing more than fan boy nitpicking.

Martian Manhunter (J’onn J’onzz) - Laurence Fishburne

Martian Manhunter - Laurence Fishburne

Martian Manhunter - He is the last of his kind. This super strong, flying, shape shifting telepath is a formidable warrior and feared by his allies just as much as his enemies. Finding it difficult to connect with humans he lives in an almost self imposed exile. He rarely uses his physical abilities to their fullest and acts as a kind of “overseer” to the Justice League.

Laurence Fishburne - I chose him for his voice more than anything. Manhunter’s physicality is so complex it would take a blend of make up, prosthetics and/or cgi to make this character work. Laurence has the ideal voice for this job. It is intelligent, calm and yet distant with a hint of sorrow.

Flash (Wally West) - Jake Abel

Wally West (Flash) - Jake Abel

Flash - Wally West is (in my opinion) the best Flash there is. Not only is he more experienced than Barry as he gained his powers at a much younger age, he is also more powerful, having broken the light barrier along with venturing into the speed force and coming back out (granting him new powers such as phasing). But that’s not why I like him so much. While Barry was rightly described as being “like a gay virgin” by my mate the other day, Wally has fun with his power and he is a wisecracking cocky character. But all this simply covers his insecurity. He never truly realises how powerful he is or how important he is to the Justice League. He is always looking up to others rather than allowing himself to become self-righteous. He is the conscience that keeps the rest of the team grounded.

Jake Abel - I have seen Jake on Supernatural playing one character in three different ways and it was a joy to see. As “Adam” the illegitimate brother of the Winchesters, the first time we see him he is actually as a ghoul in Adam’s form. The second time he is the brother resurrected. And the final time we see him is as the Angel Michael using his body as a host. Each incarnation of this character is played completely differently and this speaks volumes for his acting talents. Physically he is tall with broad shoulders and slim build, perfect for a runner!

Wonder Woman (Diana) - Linda Cardellini

Wonder Woman - Linda Cardellini

Wonder Woman - The Amazonian princes is a born warrior. Her enhanced strength and durability go hand in hand with flight, lightning reflexes and expertise to make one fierce opponent. She is one of the most respected members of the League and can turn the tide of any battle with her presence.

Linda Cardellini - She is simply a beautiful woman! Not a girl, a woman! She can act and is into martial arts too so should handle any fighting nicely. If she can make Scooby Doo’s “Velma” this sexy, just imagine what she could do for Wonder Woman!
Linda Cardellini - Velma

Green Lantern (John Stewart) - Rick Worthy

John Stewart (GL) - Rick Worthy

Green Lantern - John Stewart is a military man through and through. He took over duties of being Hal Jordan’s replacement after Guy Gardner was taken out of action. His attitude didn’t sit well with Hal at first but he soon proved his worth. In the Justice League he uses his military training just as much as his power ring and can asses a situation before allowing the team to rush in.

Rick Worthy - Another actor I saw on Supernatural. I didn’t have a clue who to cast in this role but then Rick’s recent turn as the “Alpha Vampire” on Supernatural made the decision clear. His voice is what really got me, perfect for that military background.

Hawkgirl (Shiera Hall) - Thora Birch

Hawkgirl - Thora Birch

Hawkgirl - Shiera Hall or Shayera Hol (pronounced the same) joins the Justice League as a double agent only to be betrayed by both her native leaders and her growing emotions for the Human Race. She is a headstrong brawler with very strong values of loyalty. It is when her loyalties are challenged that she turns her back on her own people in order to stand with the Justice League.

Thora Birch - She is a great actress with a great rack! She does suffer a little with “baby face syndrome” but I think this could help with portraying the characters naivety and conflict of loyalties.

Batman (Bruce Wayne) - Timothy Olyphant

Batman - Timothy Olyphant

Batman - The only founding member with no superpowers. Despite this, or more probably because of this, he is the most respected member of the League. His detective skills, fearlessness and training make him a valuable member of the team. While Wally West keeps the powerful members grounded and humble, Batman reminds them of what they fight for. He is human, and as such he gives the group a much needed (non powered) human factor.

Timothy Olyphant - This was the hardest role for me to cast. I toyed with several actors, all were too young, too short or just too nice. I think Timothy has the height, the talent and a good chin for the role so that’s why I went for him.

There it is. I hope you liked it. I tried to keep it as original as possible. If you loved it or hated it here’s a little something for your time

I like this cast, I'm a total supporter of Joe for Supes, he's perfect! and I'm surprised at how much I like Olyphant for Batman....I think he'd do quite a good job in that role.

Ryden - Olyphant took me by surprise too! Part of me says I really shouldn't like the idea but I saw the pictures I used up there and the idea grew on me.

LEE - I toyed with Joe for Bats and while I liked it, it meant I'd need someone bigger for Superman! Daniel Cudmore is the only man who can stand next to Joe as Batman and I've not seen enough of that guys acting.

Cheers guys!

Jackson..flash as well idk the actor tho i think Ryan Reynolds could do him amazin but he has too many cbms to worry bout already and for wonder woman i like her but i think that cobie smulders can do her justice and ur hawkgirl idk as well and idk any1 who can pull taht role off and lawrence fishbourne as martian manhunter is epic

in a JLA movie where he never becomes Clark Kent i think he-s by far the best choice for Superman. It's as Clark that i think he won't deliver-- Owain Yeoman for that. so i guess i like this entire cast EXCEPT Wonder Woman. I mean i love Cardellini. man she made Velma was HOT!!!!!!! but i don't think your reasoning was as justifiable as ALL of the others. Olyphant-- i can work with, i guess. Let's see the villains

very nice casting i dont agree with all

your picks, but some are original atleast.

superman is iffy for me i dont think he's

right looks wise or acting...he's decent

as an actor, but supes deserves more than

decent. batman i really dont care for that

pick either i think your superman would be

a better batman. i like your lantern pick

worthy is solid and i can see him as a hard

charging cool under pressure military man.

fishbourne use his voice only can you image this

guy in the mm outfit lol!!! like abel as the flash

he might be a little young for this cast, but i still

like it. not sure about the wonder woman she's missing

something... all in all decent fancast.

Excellent cast as always Ron!
Joe M is great for Supes! As is Olyphant as Batman!
Loving the Wonder Woman and MM pics! Not sure about the Hawkgirl or Wally choices?

Manganiello i dont like him as Superman
Ares,Hercules,maybe even Hawkman. Not
Superman I dont think he can pull of the
dual idenity.

Hawkgirl off of looks alone I say no.

Fishbourne for any superhero is pure
comedy to me...voice only is the only
way I see this one.

Cardellini as Wonder Woman she looks a little
old and Im not sure she has the overall build
of a AMAZON!!

I like your Wally West pick as well..Abel
has some acting ability and the wide eyed
boyish joking cracking look about him.

I dont care for the Batman pick I'd rather
have Gerard Butler with this cast I think
he'd be able to handle being Bruce and
would KILL as BATMAN!!! Butler opposite
Yeoman as Supes could be epic...

To me Worthy is your best pick...he's great for GL..
VOICE,LOOKS,AND HE'S A PRETTY GOOD ACTOR TO BOOT!!

BLADE@, you pretty much said what I was gonna
say! LOL

It's the duality of the role that I find hard
to believe Joe can pull off, really hard!

If ya put Joe into Batman's cowl and move Yeoman
or Cudmore in as Supes then ya got a winning
combo! Yeoman is 6'4" and would look just great
besides Joe. He'd only have to wear 1" lifts!
I myself have always thought Batman & Superman
should both be about the same height.

Blade@, Gerard Butler as Bats is an excellent
suggestion!

BTW, Ron@ Ive wanted to use that cartoon for a long
time in a fancast but just couldn't figure out a way
to fit it in! But you made it fit just fine!

That's one of my favorite Superhero cartoons!
LOL

Yeah ima have to go with LEEE (sadly) Joe should deff be Hercules......Aiden Turner for Supes !

yankeemanf: Good question and to be honest
with you Im not sure...voice coach maybe.

DDD: Sorry about stealing your words you
know we have similar standards regarding
our CBM's...everything MUST line up
properly or Im not going to be happy lol.

Yea I think I've mention somewhere I'd
rather have Joe as THE BAT than SUPES.

BATMAN is listed at 6'2" 210lbs and
SUPERMAN 6'3" 225LBS on the DC DATABASE.

So Routh and Bale are pretty much the
actual size of their comicbook counter
parts...their somewhat smallish at 210
and 225lbs I weighted that in high school.

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 11/11/2010, 12:15 AM
Thanks guys.

Butler did come to mind for Batman but I wasn't sure about his accent. Like I said, Joe was a possible Bats too but that left a whole in the Superman casting. I could only think of Cudmore who's acting may not be up to it and I've not seen anything of LEEs toy boy Yeoman so couldn't say if he'd be good or not.

Maybe I should have been clearer about Fishburne as MM. The voice is spot on but if they usd his body they will need a wider lens to fit his fat ass on screen! He could hit the gym but by the time he's ready the rest of the cast will be pushing up daisies!

Jake may look young in the pics there but when he was in Supernatural he came across much older. I see Wally as the youngest of the group anyway and this casting was one I was most excited about.

Rick Worthy is probably my favourite casting here. Just because GL was one I was having a lot of trouble with and then I saw him and it was a slap of awesomeness in the face!

I went more for TV actors because I wanted this to be something separate from the films. The movies already have Hal Jordan and will soon have Barry Allen.

Finally, yes this cartoon is awesomeness at it's most awesome! I have just finished a stint of watching Superman TAS, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited in one long marathon! I'd recommend it to anyone! You really see how the team came together, especially the Superman/Batman friendship.

Hey, BLADE@ you didn't steal my words! LOL
You simply said what I woulda said, just
said it fist! I didn't have to even type
much, just say "DITTO" to what you said! LOL

We both simply look for accuracy and logic!
