Filling Plotholes: How Liev Schreiber becomes Tyler Mane

Filling Plotholes: How Liev Schreiber becomes Tyler Mane

A theory of how Sabretooth from X-Men Origins: Wolverine became the Sabretooth in the first X-Men movie.

Seeing that there's no X-Men Origins: Sabretooth, I'll try to come up with an idea on how this change occurred.

So here are the things we need to consider. Wolverine aside from his adamantium didn't look much different from his appearance in Wolverine. Though he looks older in Origins than in X-Men, but we could reason out that he's healing factor might have rejuvenate his looks to make him look younger in the first X-Men movie. So, why is there much a lot more changes in Sabretooth: his height, his appearance, and his attitude.

My theory is that after the events of Origins, he now sees himself inferior to his "brother" so he seeks some ways to even the odds. Stryker has said that the adamantium bonding will kill him, so he looked for an alternate option in gaining a certain advantage against Wolverine.

Enter: Magneto. This one I think will fit well with the movie universe. In the first X-Men movie Magneto already has a machine that transforms humans into mutants. What if, the prototypes or other machines in a similar vein was the one that tranformed Sabretooth. There's your explanation why Sabretooth is working with Magneto on the beginning of the X-Men movie. The transformation would make him more feral, which will increase his mass and his strength.

How about the personality, why is there a big difference between the cocky Sabretooth in Origins and the Magneto lackey in X-Men. Here's my theory Magneto who has worked with Professor X on Cerebro, knows somethings as well about brain pattern manipulation. Seeing that Sabretooth would be an asset (much like how he saw Jean Grey "The Phoenix" in X-Men 3)he wanted him to be in his organization, though with Sabretooth being sort of a loose canon, he needed a way to have a hold in him. So with Magneto tricking Sabretooth into going into his procedure without the knowledge that he will alter his mind as well. Come the first X-Men movie, Wolverine and Sabretooth barely knows each other, though Sabretooth at the back of his mind still have a little connection with Wolverine when he got Logan's Dog Tag, and implying that he wants to be the one to kill off Wolverine. He barely articulates now and more often he growls.

I think it is a fair way to try a connect two movies and explain Sabretooth's change. So very nice Access!

But still the Sabretooth in X-men 1 was a total waste of time. They should have just picked any other brawn and muscle guy and saved Sabretooth till they actually needed a worthy, sly and cunning adversary. The way Sabretooth was portrayed in Origins was actually the only decent thing if you count out the fact that they made him James Howletts brother.

nice man nice. i would love to see them fill in the plot holes of all the x-films,and that meens they would have to do a x-4,and 5 back to back to show what happened to professor-x.

I think it would be much easier to simply involve MGH (Mutant Growth Hormone) as a plot device to explain this.

@Lansdowne 5: Is it? To which comic in particular are you referring to Lan? Certainly not Wolverine: Origins. If there is any hinting that Wolverine, aka James Howlett, has a brother it would not be Sabretooth but actually his illegitmate, half-brother, "Dog" Logan. And unless Dog, who does bear a similar appearance to Victor Creed, actually IS Sabretooth...then I missed when they made that connection.

Btw, Access, great freakin' job at making at tying up loose ends. Please. Go work for Fox. They need you. Direly.

the look of sabertooth in the x-men film was right & pretty close to the comic, but the sabertooth in x-men origins wolverine was an all round better performance acting, fight scences but i don't think he had the look that i remember sabertooth looking like in the comics,is there anyway we can do an experiment that makes one being from the two actors.

Nice going, Access. It fits in nicely with the other theory of the radiation from the machine causing Jean Gray to regain her phoenix powers.

Now, regarding, Sabe and Wolvie being brothers, I do recall the writing or Origin saying that he intended the characters of Origin to visually evoke some characters from Logan's present. So Dog Logan looks like Victor Creed, the cookie looks like the Blob, Rose like Jean etc.

I just thought they were different actor written differently for the same character. Don't get me wrong, well thought out @access. But I really just think it was that simple. Better actor second time around who more accurately depicted sabortooths personality. Plus, with Jackman in control of a lot of goings on in Origins, as opposed to being an unknown in Xmen. He wasn't going to allow Wolverine's main antagonist to be written out of context.

@ landsdowne

back in the day, yes, they hinted that Sabretooth might be Wolvie's brother. another time it was hinted that he might be his father. but its been shown, long since then, that they have NO family relation whatsoever.

Blackout @ Lol! ; D

ACCESS @ PLOTHOLES heh heh! (Your talking about FOX's X-Universe dude lol).

DAMN, ol' LIEV was the only thing in BORIGINS SNORIGINS that made the movie even watchable!

One of the worst comic book movies ever made, shame on you FOX, you foxed it up!!

Total pile of SH1T!

Still i like LIEV (even though he was wolvie's [frick]ing brother, lmao).

I'd like to see LIEV in a SABRETOOTH spin off solo movie, with all new characters!

Of all the comic book franchises, its [frick]ing X-MEN that needs the boot up the a$$ and needs [frick]ing rebooting!!!

[frick] SPIDER-MAN, DAREDEVIL etc, its [frick]ing X-MEN that needs it!!!

X-MEN FIRST CLASS = Original five X-MEN = GOLD!!!

Regarding the article. In the comic books it has been stated time and again that since his birth Victor Creed has been becoming more and more feral and animal like. You do not have to come up with some "Magneto Mutant Machine" and steal a play out of Bryan Singers book. It right there in the source material. Now, it may be a big jump for Origins Sabertooth to X1 Sabertooth but, oh well. And X1 Sabertooth was by far the better of the two in my opinion.

I like this theory, it makes sense. I think the transformation would've changed his attitude when it made him more of a feral creature. There wouldn't need to be any alternate mind controlling.

proud to be pinoy too! nice theory access, guess the series x-men evolution back then can back it up, one episode showd that cyclops and his brother went into this machine to evolve themselves, their hair turned white and cyclops no longer needs his glasses, he can control his own powers....

airbeyonder18 - 2/23/2010, 8:11 AM
@Access: Interesting theory. It's not a bad idea. I originally thought that Sabertooth let himself become too much of an animal, "embracing the other side", thus making him more savage.
FateSucks
FateSucks - 2/23/2010, 8:23 AM
Both movies stink. Both portrayals are far from the source material. If it wasn't for Fox liking whom they have in the Wolverine role, this series would be screaming for a re-boot, First Class anyone.

i like it i would've said Stryker some how changed him using another mutant or one of his experiments to make him stronger and make him look like the X-Men 1 Sabertooth. or just naturally mutated into into that version of Sabertooth.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/23/2010, 8:44 AM
the explanation is pretty simple, like airbeyonder said. the "feral" mutants like logan, sabretooth, wildchild, wolfsbane, and many others, are already naturally animalistic. the more they embrace it, the more feral looking they become.

just look at the transformation that Wolvie underwent after Magneto pulled the adamantium off his bones. he started to embrace his "wild" side more, and then he started changing in appearance also. the explanation is right there in the comics.

marvel72 - 2/23/2010, 8:45 AM
@ leee777 you got that right about x-men first class = original team = gold,i would like to add,the villian should be magneto on his own then he decides to form a team to battle x-men. for the second magneto & the original brotherhood of evil mutants that included scarlett witch & quicksilver.& finally the third film the sentinels.

@LEEE: How come you want the First Class reboot, when you don't want a Spiderman reboot?
It is the same premise, they want to base them in their early highschool ages aka. as you would say it "the 90210 style". What makes you think that Fox is gonna be better at portraying their marvel franchise than Sony is, when they both are gonna go the 90210 road? But off course their haven't been laid anything solid out as there has(or not...) with Spiderman. X-men: First Class is still far from seing any real news. But the major B-I-T-C-H aka. Lauren Shuler Donner seems to be wanting to make it in the same manner as they are aiming at with the spidey reboot.

Okay, what a mess a made up there^ - But I honestly want to know why you think it won't be bitchslappingly stupid to do a highschool X-men, when you think it will with Spiderman? And I realise that you probably meant a non-highschool First Class, and if so just ignore this rant, because I realise now that I'm just jabbing at nothing here...lol : )

everyone stop using "source material" as part of your argument. movie goers don't read the source material. this is comicbookMOVIE.com. it's not obvious how he 'transformed' to people that just watch the movies. it was a HUGE HUGE plot hole (2 words. this site loses credibility slowly every day) and FOX messed up big time. it's one of the most idiotic things i've ever seen in movies. maybe if it was a different studio doing Origins then we'd let it pass- but this was a huge, inexplicable blunder and i can't believe these people get paid millions to make movies. i can't believe not one person durring the entire production raised their hand and said ..."uhhh guys... we've already done sabertooth and he looks nothing like that"

there's no explaining it away as "it's his mutant genes!" or "it was magneto's machine!" THESE ARE FICTIONAL PEOPLE THINGS DON'T HAPPEN TO THEM IN BETWEEN MOVIES. there is only one explanation: FOX didn't care. the executive producer probably knew liev schreiber or something and they wanted to put in the movie so they did. they didn't care - end of explanation.

LuckyKid@ i think im with you on this. i don't want my heroes in [frick]ing high school. if i wanted a movie about [frick]ing high school i'd go watch a movie about [frick]ing high school.

-you want high schoolers and kids to see your movie? make them high school age characters, you'll pull in twilight money.

-you want teenagers, kids, and adults (the people with the actual money to spend) to see your movie? make them adult characters. you'll pull in spider-man money.

the difference? oh only about $800 million.

you guys are dumb! sabretooth is dog!!!!! thats how he knows logans birthday! (he attacks him every year on his birthday)! thats why he kills logans girl in japan! hes reenacting killing rose to mess with wolvies head because he cant remember! they arent brothers, theyre half brothers. same father different mother but OBVIOUSLY related. how can you not tell theyre related? the question was never "are they related?", but the mystery was always "how are they related?". to quote a certain douchebag a few posts above, "the explanation is right there in the comics"
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/23/2010, 11:18 AM
@ makiveli

there are way too many differences with Sabretooth and Dog for them to be the same person. yes, they made you think they have some similarities in origin, but THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON! dog has scars on his face. sabretooth has a healing factor...would you like to tell me why Dog's scars don't heal if he's in fact Sabretooth? (also genius, Dog didn't kill Rose, Wolverine did. on accident of course)

how about the fact that Sabretooth's origin was already explained LONG before Origin? Sabretooth's parents were introduced years and years and years before Origin was even written. they used to keep him locked in their basement because the father was a mutant hating bastard. and surprise surprise! they were completely different people than the family in Origin. also, Sabretooth had claws and fangs when he was young, Dog did not.

AND, if you still don't get it, then go read Jeph Loeb's run on Wolverine, in which they explain EXACTLY how Wolvie and Sabretooth are related...and guess what! IT ISN'T BY FAMILY!

Go catch up on Sabretooth's backstory, THEN come on here and start calling people douche bags, you stupid [frick].

"THESE ARE FICTIONAL PEOPLE THINGS DON'T HAPPEN TO THEM IN BETWEEN MOVIES."

no offense man, but things happen to characters in between movies all the time, lol. Where did Nightcrawler go in between X2 and X3?? thats a story that's missing, that definately happened in between movies. What about, the terminator franchise, years and years passed between the first and second, hell John Conner was born in between those movies. lol

it actually happens all the time :)
