THIS IS THE WAY I WOULD DO BATMAN IF I WAS DIRECTOR!

By DDD - Apr 15, 2010 03:04 AM EST

The Nolan BATMAN’S were OK but I just don’t like how BATMAN
seems out of control and not the cool as a cucumber detective I’ve
always seen him be! He’s almost too human in the NOLAN BATMAN
movies. Batman is not out of control! He is the greatest detective the
world has ever seen!

Plus The Bruce Wayne I’ve come to know is not a playboy spoiled rich
kid! I really don’t like how Nolan portrays Bruce Wayne…it doesn’t
go with he way Batman has been written, forever. Bruce Wayne has a
better reputation and personification in the comic books and in Michael
Keaton’s BATMAN.

Bale has two father figures in the Nolan movies and that is not the way
it should be! The last time I checked Alfred works for Wayne, not
tell him what to do, same goes for Lucious Fox! They are his friends
and have his back but they are not his fathers! They don’t lay
ultimatums down to him!

Batman is BAT “MAN”, not BAT-PLAYBOY! He’s BATMAN, not
BAT-“I’m-not-quite-sure-what-I’m-doing-MAN”! This is BATMAN
BEGINS, not Bruce Wayne is a playboy ne’r-do-well at the start!
He never was that, ever! In the Dark Knight he almost seems like
Tony Stark instead of cool ominous night-creature DARK KNIGHT!
BRUCE WAYNE ain’t TONY STARK!

And another thing! I really hate, the TUMBLER! BATMAN’S car is
exactly that…A CAR! Not a military super-Humvie that comes apart
and becomes a super-motocross bike! The BATMOBILE is a
cool-ass car…an AUTOMOBILE. A billionaire like Bruce Wayne
looks more at home in something that looks more like a Lamborghini
than a Landrover! Something like the LAMBORGHINI concept car,
the ANKONIAN. Now it looks like a BATMOBILE “SHOULD” look:

Photobucket

The LAMBORGHINI ANKONIAN.

Photobucket

Man, wouldn’t it have been great to be the test driver!

Photobucket

But the TUMBLER just looks like a pile of slag-metal! U-U-UGLY!!!

Photobucket

The original Keaton car looks way more BATMAN and cool!

Photobucket

The ’68 BATMOBILE is my favorite and looks far better than the TUMBLER.

Photobucket

The BRUCE TIMM BATMOBILE from the animated series, produced & WRITTEN by
PAUL DINI, looks better than THE TUMBLER, even!

BATMAN BEGINS was more like BATMAN…more superhero-like! DARK
KNIGHT was good although it was HEATH who stole the show but he really wasn’t
THE JOKER! Just a thug in crappy clown make-up, albeit the best one I’ve ever seen!
THE JOKER is something far greater than that!

And what’s with this, “BATMAN is in his own world and doesn’t fit into the DC
Superverse”? Nolan’s out of his mind on that one! The Nolanverse SHOULD slide
right into the rest of the DCU. Nolan’s doesn’t fit at all! NOT AT ALL!!! It’s
wrong on so many levels! It’s OK to put realism into the DC movies but to make
it as though it’s not a CBM at all is a mistake! All DARK KNIGHT was is a
gangster movie, a kind of a throwback to the ‘40’s gangster movies, with a
high-tech vigilante in a goofy outfit trying to stop him! I mean JOKER out there
in the street with a Tommy gun trying to mow Bats down, in this day and age?
Is that the best tech THE ONE AND ONLY JOKER can come up with? Come on,
give us a break!

There’s no way that Nolan’s BATMAN could ever fit into the JUSTICE LEAGUE,
NO WAY! It would be incredulous, as in, “just wouldn’t hold water”!

So if I was the writer and the director of the “REAL” BATMAN he would have a
REAL BATMOBILE and a REAL BATCYCLE and a REAL BATPLANE and
he would fit into the DCU. He would be a little older and in control.

I gave my movie a little name:

BATMAN: DARK DETECTIVE
Or for short:
BATMAN:DD

And this is the cast:

Photobucket

ERIC BANA is capable of outstanding performances (STAR TREK, MUNICH,
TROY, BLACK HAWK DOWN). He would be great as the master detective and
Caped Crusader who is just a bit on the creepy side (see his VULCAN NERO in
STAR TREK). And he’s just as tall as Superman, the way it SHOULD be!

BATMAN (BRUCE WAYNE) – ERIC BANA, 6’2½”, 41
Photobucket

ALFRED PENNYWORTH – TERENCE STAMP, 6’
Photobucket

COMMISSIONER GORDON is a tall strapping older man with a square jaw and
a tough as nails demeanor!—WILLIAM HURT fits the roll like a hand-in-glove!

COMMISSIONER JAMES GORDON – WILLIAM HURT, 6’2”
Photobucket

No BATGIRL, just EMMA as JAMES GORDON’S teenage genius daughter.

BARBARA GORDON – EMMA STONE
Photobucket

DENNIS HAYSBERT played the PRESIDENT on 24, I think he can play BRUCE
WAYNE’S business manager and confidante! I sure wouldn’t ever tell Dennis he
couldn’t! lol

LUCIOUS FOX – DENNIS HAYSBERT, 6’4 ½”
Photobucket

JANUARY JONES can play the TV Talk Show Host/Journalist, VICKI VALE, very
well indeed! And she’s beautiful enough to be believable as BRUCE WAYNE’S love
interest (Unlike Jake’s quite homely sister!).

VICKI VALE – JANUARY JONES
Photobucket

JOHN CARROLL LYNCH would be perfect for HARVEY BULLOCK. He is good
at playing a slightly seedy type of guy or a downright scary serial killer disguised as
the average nice guy-next-door (Which most serial killers are.). He’s also adept at
playing cops and men in-charge!—SHUTTER ISLAND, GRAN TORINO, ZODIAK

HARVEY BULLOCK – JOHN CAROL LYNCH, 6’3”
Photobucket

SUPERMAN would be a cameo to set-up the JLA! (My BATMAN actually fits into the
rest of the DCU & THE JLA!)

SUPERMAN (CLARK KENT) [CAMEO] – JIM CAVIEZEL, 6’2”, 41
Photobucket

VILLAINS:

THE JOKER – CRISPIN GLOVER
Photobucket

HARLEY QUINN (DR. HARLEEN QUINZEL) – KRISTEN BELL
Photobucket

I really liked AARON ECKHART as HARVEY DENT in THE BLACK KNIGHT.
I’d love to cast him as Harvey in this movie but he is forever Nolan’s HARVEY!
I think MICHAEL WEATHERLY would be great as the good-guy turned insane
twisted dark character. I know a lot of you want him as a hero but he would be
perfect for HARVEY DENT!

TWO-FACE (HARVEY DENT) – MICHAEL WEATHERLY, 6’2”, 41
Photobucket

Guys, you can’t tell me you wouldn’t want to see Jessica’s butt stickin’ out of that outfit!
I want her for CATWOMAN not WONDER WOMAN! She really doesn’t fit WONDER-
WOMAN! But she sure looks lithe and feline, to me!

CATWOMAN (SELENA KYLE) – JESSICA BIEL
Photobucket

THE PENGUIN is a criminal in a tuxedo, not a deformed mutant with flipper-
fingers! All Paul needs is the prosthetic pointy nose! He’s a damm fine actor!

THE PENGUIN (OSWALD CHESTERFIELD COBBLEPOT) – PAUL GIAMATTI
Photobucket

nice cast and origanal to.

bana as batman -> he can do it!
alfred -> great actor choice but i think he would be greater for a villian roll
comm. gordon -> cool cast
barbara gordon -> love emma stone
dont know about the joker cast -> i hate that guy :p heath ledger = the joker! :)
two face -> hmmm. i dont know but he looks the part
finally.. jessica biel as catwomen -> MIAUW!!!! My god she must be the most natural beautifull woman on earth (besides my wife :D ) i'm such a fan of here. and she's single again! yieehaa! haha xD

DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 6:01 AM
Tea@, I wasn't aware of your hatred for Bana! lol

I think he is an OK actor! Couldn't think of
anyone else for Bruce Wayne so I chose him
cuz he fits the part!

I just wanted to do a Batman cast with some
slightly older guys for Bruce & Clark who have
a little more authority to their acting, in
my opinion!

Bale doesn't seem to have the authoritry to his
portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Batman is a man
in-charge of the situation at hand most of the
time! He doesn't need to be told what to do by
Alfred and Fox! I don't know, there just seems to
be something a little off about Bales performance
as the Caped Crusader!

And yeah, I thought there would be a few of us who
felt like I do about the BATMOBILE!
DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 6:07 AM
Thanx Yowsaman@!

Wow I didn't know Jessica was single again?

Looks like I'm gonna be headin' for Hollywood...yeah...right...like that would ever
happen! LMAO

LEEE777 - 4/15/2010, 7:26 AM
I'm sorry DDD, you lost me on this...

CRISPIN GLOVER is perfect for the next JOKER, (Say BATS 4)

But always hated BELL for HARLEY (and a billion pictures of that crappy Harley picture on the Net, that and TENNANT for RIDDLER, who the [frick] did them pictures lol, they need shooting!? : D).

Never liked BANA for BATMAN WTF???

OZY put me off that pick for life! : P

BIEL no way in a million years as CATWOMAN (and too early, you saw that comedy right with DOUG in, funny lol)

HURT hell no lol.

I love both NOLAN films!!!

STONES cool for BATGIRL (Her or MARA) but no way should've BATGIRL been in the BAT movies yet, but you've already said that so coolios !

Nah man im LOST on this,,, cool BATMOBILES though! : P

CAV = CAPTAIN ATOM dude!!! Though a RED SON ELSEWORLDS SUPERMAN or something would be sweet! ; D

Do like the PENGUIN pic though, top marks for that one bud!

JoshWilding - 4/15/2010, 10:42 AM
Great cast man - I have my own personal favourites for a lot of these but this really is an excellent cast! In fact, this is probably one of your best yet especially as a lot of the actors here look completely perfect for these roles! Great work but your brilliant choice for the Batmobile steals the show, lol! :)
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 4/15/2010, 11:02 AM
HOLLER HOLLER HOLLER for that DOLLAR! ; D

Hey it is a cool car, even Knight Riderish but not a cool Batmobile for the origin, i luved da TUMBLER, its what the first Batmobile realisticly should've of looked like!

Saying that it would be well cool if that was the type of Batmobile in the THIRD BATS movie!!

Well cool!
statechamp00
statechamp00 - 4/15/2010, 11:57 AM
Yes!
I totally like this cast!
Nice Job!
I've wanted Paul Giamatti as the Penguin ever since I saw him in Shoot 'Em Up.
I like you casting for the Joker too.
Many of the parts you have cast I thought were cast perfectly in the Batman Begins and TDK (such as Alfred) but I'm going to assume that you wanted to do a totally different cast and thus I agree with all of your picks!

Although, I would either keep the Tumbler (which is like the original Batmobile) of go with the KeatonMobile...not the Lambo you have suggested.
Also, the only casting choice I am completely opposed to is Jessica Beil as Cat Woman....it just doesn't fit to me.
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 4/15/2010, 2:00 PM
I like this!!!

While I don't totally agree on Bana, I think he could pull Bats off.

Great Vicki Vale, Joker, Gordon, Babs, Lucius, Penguin, and Bollock.

Now I disagree on Catwoman and Supes. I just don't see Jessica Biel playing the seductress type of Catwoman very well...

For Caviezel, I want him as Batman!!!! Not sure on who I'd pick for Supes, but Caviezel as Batman ftw!!!!

Two Thumbs up!!!! Ebert Style!!!!!

P.S.

Forgot to comment on your previous fancasts (Horror Hotties and Original Defendors). Both were fantastic!!!!!!!!!

Two Thumbs up as well!!!!
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 4/15/2010, 2:02 PM
Oh and I liked the Tumbler cause it was very similar to the Batmobile in the Dark Knight REturns...

But I like the Lamborgini idea much much better!!!! Great choice!!!!
Ryden
Ryden - 4/15/2010, 2:44 PM
Really good cast DDD, I agree with you one hundred percent about the Dark Knight and how it wasn't close to the Batman comics, except for the Joker (he was MUCH more than a thug IMO) but I've never liked Bale or the way Batman/Bruce Wayne was written.

On the cast...

I'd accept Bana as Bats, he looks the part and he can act but I much prefer Tom Hardy who IMO is a better actor :P

Terrence Stamp seems a bit too villanous for Alfred

Can't see Hurt as the Commish

Emma Stone would make a great Babs

Hate Lucius Fox's character but Haybert would be good in the role

Decent Vicki and I like your Bullock choice

Can't stand Jim Cav for Superman, he has a ratty face...very un-Superman like. He's a good actor but he looks nothing like a superhero.

Glover is the PERFECT Joker

I like Bell as Harley

Not to keen on your Two-Face pick.

Really can't see your Catwoman choice

Great Penguin!

DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 3:51 PM
Thanks Ryden@!

Yep, this was an older take on Batman,
not Batman Begins. This isn't a Dark Knight 3
casting at all! This is an alternative from the
Nolan movies I did just for the hell of it.

It's not an elseworlds just a more comic book-
like take on the Batman world. I didn't think
everybody would agree on every actor I chose.
It's what I would like to see in a Batman movie
but I'm REALLY OLD SCHOOL! I'm one of those who
prefers the Keaton Batman over Nolan & Bale's.

I'm tired of these young kids playing Batman &
Superman! So this definitely is not a DARK KNIGHT
3 casting. Everybody else has done that to death!
I won't ever do a Dark Knight 3 fancast.

Tom Hardy would be a good alternative Batman too,
your right, he is a better actor than Bana.

DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 3:58 PM
Critc@ you're right!

Caviezel would make a great Batman!
Oh, well this is the way I arranged
it for this cast.

I chose Biel for Catwoman cuz I just
kept picturing Jessica in that Cat-suit
and I couldn't get it out of my head! lol

Ryden
Ryden - 4/15/2010, 3:59 PM
@DDD- Yeah I'm with ya, Keaton's Batman was the best! I really dislike Bale's Batman...nothing like the character. And I also HATE the tumbler...since when is the Batmobile a tank?! LOL

I still really like Bana for the role he's second place ;)

My Batman choices are

1. Tom Hardy

2. Eric Bana

3. Henry Cavill

Oh I'm actually working on a pretty big Batman fan-cast, so far casted over 40 characters...and I'm pretty sure theres only two to go ;)
DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 4:17 PM
Thanks anyway Leee@ but I wasn't doing a
DARK KNIGHT 3 here. But it's not an
elseworld either. It's just an older take
on Batman and Supes.

More than enough people have done a TDK fancast.
I don't need to do one myself! This is just an
alternative Batman, more in the Keaton mold.

I like Bale's Batman just fine I just would prefer
a little more of a traditional comic book Batman
than the Dark Knight kind. I thought Batman Begins
was a better "BATMAN" movie but that's just me I
guess!

Heath did a phenomenal job with the Nolan Joker
If I was going to replace him it would
probably be with James Franco. He looks a little
like Heath and I know he could do a take on Heath's
Joker that would echo Heath's performance but not
be an outright impression of him.

I don't hate THE TUMBLER completely I just prefer
a more street-type Lamborghini/Ferrari-type
BATMOBILE. A Bat-"Car" not a Bat-Super-SUV!
DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 4:23 PM
Ryden@ looking forward to your Batman big-cast!
That will be be cool! Thought of doing that myself
but it's just too much work for me to do on a DC
comic fancast...I'm more of a Marvel-Man but Batman
was the first Superhero I ever got into when I was
a kid!
DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 4:38 PM
Thanks Statechamp@!

Yes, Paul is the one for The Penguin, I think!

Yeah, you're right! This is not TDK3, it's
an older more Keaton-style Batman!

I did a Google on BATMOBILE-LOOKING cars and
got the LAMBO in my search and thought it fit
the way a Batmobile street-type would look in
2010.

BTW, the original BATMOBILE was a red 1941
CORD Automobile with a black interior. The only
"BATMAN" thing it had on it was a "BAT" hood
ornament!

DDD @ Yeah could never see Goblin boy as JOKER EVER!!!

CRISPIN GLOVERS the perfect JOKER dude!

Heyyyy i'm a KEATON fan more than BALE! : P

But i still luv both NOLAN movies, wouldn't change 'em for the World! ; D

I get what ya doing here, i just don't get why fix what ain't broke lol.

Nah very cool picks up there just always hated BELL with a passion for HARLEY, and as much as i like BANA as an actor, don't see him as BATS besides its time we got an all American Bruce Wayne after the Welshman, you know one maybe that comes from Texas! : D

After all BATMAN as much AMERICAN as apple pie and 4th of July and even CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!

Oh soz dude, i went into LEEE-RAGE-MODE (: D) forgot to say how much i like your VALE and BULLOCK picks, luv dem big time!

You're right Leee@! Batman is VERY AMERICAN!

It would be great to see an American Bruce Wayne
but the last American Batman's we got were Val kIlmer
and George Clooney! I sure don't wanna see dat!!!
:D

Thanx on the Vale & Bulllock picks. Lynch is
just absolutely perfect for Harvey Bullock, I think!
Zooey Deschanel for Harley is a very good choice Leee@!
Ryden
Ryden - 4/15/2010, 5:25 PM
@LEEE- I wouldn't say Batman is that American to be honest, not nearly as much as Supes.

@DDD- Cheers ;) I prefer Marvel myself but I read a lot of Batman, there was only two characters that I would continously return to and that was Spider-Mana dn Batman...I had quite a bit of Hulk and X-Men, dabbled in the Avengers, read some Superman and never picked up anything else really. :P

BALE FOR BARKING DOG MAN!!

DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 5:37 PM
Thanks Josh@!

I thought that Lambo looked a lot like a
BATMOBILE for this present time! Of course
Keaton's Batmobile is the definitive one,
imo!
DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 5:39 PM
Yep Ryden@ Spidey and bats were the ones I followed religiously myself! But I loved THE AVENGERS and
CAPTAIN AMERICA too!

Kyos@ thanx!

And yeah...there is more than enough TDK 3

That's why I'll never do a TDK3 fancast!
That and the new Spidey fancasts! Geez!!!
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 4/15/2010, 6:33 PM
You are high off your ass if you think Batman is just as "American" as Captain America. Ditto with Superman, who isn't even from f*cking Earth, let alone America.

RYDEN @ SUPERMAN's from KRYPTON! : P

DDD @ Kudos bk at'cha, hey diamond pickS for VIKKI VALE & BULLOCK, can see it now!

So thats a real sports car???!!!

I want one! ; D

Man, that is the Batmobile!

Agree with ya, KEATONS one is the definitive Batmobile, don't think that will ever be beat on screen no matter what!

Ryden
Ryden - 4/15/2010, 7:46 PM
@LEEE- Yeah but I'm talking about the way he was marketed, "Stands for Truth, Justice and The American Way" ? That's not American? He wears Red and Blue..oh and he's an illegal immagrant as are all modern Americans ;)

But I agree with Tyler that neither of them, especially Batman is not as American as Captain America...considering he has America in his name LOL.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 4/15/2010, 8:12 PM
"The American way" stands for ideals and values that the entire world can look up to, not just America itself. Truth, justice, freedom, honesty, pride, respect, heroism, these are all qualities that are universal. The American way doesn't stand for just the values of America, but the entire world, and Superman is a global defender, he stands for the entire Earth. He's a part of American culture, and he is just as much a part of global culture as well, as he represents everything we hope to and aspire to be.

I have a non-American actor cast as Superman in my next cast (and believe me, I doubt many people will dig the choice) because I feel that he would do phenomenally in the role, and has a decent look. I've seen on other sites (SHH) where some forum users say that Superman should be an American born actor, which baffles me because Superman, again, is more than America, he is the whole world, and he's a f*cking alien. From f*cking space.

Just had to get that off my chest, because it's mainly users on other sites, who say the BS about Superman needing to be an American, that inspired this whole comment. Not anyone here, so if you feel this comment was directed mainly towards you, don't. But Ryden's comment was a bit of a jumping off point for this rant.
DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 8:58 PM
Tyler@ you're absolutely correct in all that you said!
It's good to get a good rant off yer chest every now
and again! ;D

The only superhero I've ever been extremely vehement
about as should be played by an AMERICAN is CAPTAIN
AMERICA, himself!

Batman is a very American invention but he belongs
to the world now, just like Superman!

CAPTAIN AMERICAN kind of belongs to the world now too
but I still wanted to see an AMERICAN play him!

Those qualities you stated above are the very
qualities any human from anywhere on this planet
should set as ideals, for a brass ring to strive
for!

Imagine a world where everyone strove extremely
hard to accomplish those ideals, I mean every last
soul on earth! It would be a much better place to
live!
Ryden
Ryden - 4/15/2010, 9:20 PM
@Tyler- Nah I agree with you man, but you've got to admit he is marketed as an American character.
zephyr
zephyr - 4/15/2010, 9:57 PM
I agree with you on alot of what you mentioned but why are you ragging on Bale. He's a great actor. If his portrayal of Bats/Bruce is not to your liking it's not entirely his fault. He's just an actor taking direction from Nolan.

And by the way, they've already tried your type of Batman movie, 4 times if you recall, and the last 2 were complete failures. So despite Nolan's flaws as a director I would take him over anyone else, since they are bound to have flaws of there own.
DDD
DDD - 4/15/2010, 11:58 PM
Zephyr@ I wasn't ragging on Bale!
If ya notice I said Nolan's portrayal
of Batman was not to my total liking!
Not Bale's!

Now if ya notice I said Nolan's Batman is OK
just not to my total preference! Batman in
Batman Begins was very Batman-like with Ras Al
Ghul and Scarecrow.

With TDK they went in a little
different direction...more true-to-life
with The Joker a more low-tech sort of bad
guy not the high-tech sort of sci-fi bad guy
which the Joker of the comics is!

The first Batman with Keaton was done by
Tim Burton and was an extreme success! It
was more true to Batman but it was a little
too campy and cartoonish for my total liking!

The other Batman movies were done by someone
else who made them total CARTOONS! Of course
they bombed! Batman & Robin was just an absolute
cartoon! It looked like it was made for two-
year-olds!

Hollywood has always seemed to think that
Superhero movies had to be campy cartoons!
Nolan changed that for the better in Batman
Begins! But I think he went too non sci-fi
and true-to-life for a Batman movie in TDK.

TDK doesn't fit into the rest of the kind of
sci-fi world of the DCU. It doesn't fit a JLA
movie at all!

It isn't a flaw of Nolan that he made TDK more
of a true-to-life crime drama. He did that on
purpose! But it doesn't fit into the comic's DCU
of The JLA! That is a mistake I think not a flaw!
Batman is a superhero not just a vigilante with a
high-tech suit and vehicle. He fights Super-villains
not just gangsters in gothic-punk face-paint! Joker
is more than that! He's a freakin' Super-villain!
This is a world of Superheroes and Super-villains and
that's where it should be! Not in the totally real-world
of crime drama!
