The "Home of Superman" as they have officially nicknamed their city is obviously excited to have such a major movie being filmed in their front and backyard. The story below explains which other cities were in the mix to become the cherished home of Clark Kent. While the video was posted yesterday and gives you a dramatic look at some of the damaged set piece that you've only seen in photos.

Reports Examiner's Monica Key:

According to Mayor Robert “Bob” Hausler, shortly after the first of the year the City of Plano was approached by Third Eye Productions. Mayor Hausler states Michigan was the focus for a Smallville filming locale. Due to state budgetary issues, Michigan ended its film subsidy program used to attract and retain film making to their state. Michigan’s loss is definitely Illinois’s gain.

Other locales were scouted, such as Sandwich, IL (located in close proximity to Plano), but Plano was ultimately selected for its period look and charm consistent with this story’s background. Rolling grassy plains, wide open spaces with farms, architecture reminiscent of the late 50’s, and a people so friendly that they warm the hearts of all who visit, it’s easy to envision this city as Smallville--- the only home Superman has ever really known.

The city signed an agreement with Third Eye Productions, only recently, while intentionally waiting for the businesses and residents whose locations were of interest in filming, to sign theirs. In return for permitting the filming of Man of Steel, the city receives a fee plus costs incurred beyond routine, e.g. overtime for police to block streets. Any areas modified by production for the filming will be returned to their original state.

Man Of Steel, starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond, Russell Crowe with Christopher Meloni and Harry Lennix, the reboot is slated for theaters Mid-December 2012!

Sweet. They should put a teaser with Sherlock Holmes and have the full TDKR trailer with it. That'd be cool. ;D

I'm from Michigan and let me say there is a very large percentage of our state's population that despises Governor Snyder for killing the Michigan Film Credit Incentive. :(

Fanboys love to over-analyze ever detail until theirs nothing left, that's why, unfortunately.

Who knows how much of this film will be pre-Superman anyways? And who cares as long as it's a good film? If it's an epic adventure like Batman Begins, I'm cool with it.

why are people complaining about them redoing his origin? Even Smallville began 10 years ago, while the last time the origin was on the big screen was 1978. This is not only introducing him to a new generation of movie goers, it is also going to do the origin right, not the convoluted Smallville version.

And they have to include Smallville, if only for the fact that his parents live there! Or would you just have them both killed off before the film. It's a reboot, they have to include some kind of retelling of the origin. With Incredible Hulk, it was simple enough to put in the opening credits. But Superman is an icon, and now that the first ever superhero is getting the reboot treatment, his story needs to be told in its entirety.

and just because you've watched Smallville on TV, doesnt mean that every single person who goes to watch the movie will have watched the TV show. So the origin is needed.

Rehashing the already known origin is gonna be just plain boring (again).

Anyone happen to catch Amy Adams (aka Lois Lane) in the new Muppets trailer? Further proof Snyder's casting is off! Man, does she look old ;(

true, but then again probably there will be no sequel, so is good that tey are making a superman movie...... but i agree with the casting choice....Evangeline Lilly (Lost) would have been a cool Lois Lane....

IMO we don't have a great Superman origin film yet. In '78 he was secluded for twelve years and then he's flying around in a cape. It can be done better. Batman's origin was attempted a few times but I don't think is was done properly until Begins.

@kalelhawj The movie is going to suck

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY....Smallville was way better than SR.
The man of steel movie is going to suck and you know it.I've been collecting Superman for years and I will tell you....Henry Cavill is going to suck because he sucks because thats why he needs to be surrounded with experience actors. This movie is going down and I'm going to to do my part in boycotting this movie. [frick] Cavill!!!

I think we're over analyzing this a bit much. We should just be happy that we're even getting a CHANCE to see a new Superman movie! But I would love to see him throw down with someone :)

I agree with hatrick3, thinking Supes origins are very scaled back for STM, I'm sure with Goyer and Nolan at the helm they can make The Man of Steel the Superman movie we deserve!!!
