Foster has been working on the secret project for quite some time. There has been a smattering of rumors that he had been working on a series, but this is the first time he has unveiled any details. The project has been working under the code name S.E.T.I., and the actual title has not be made public. Foster has said that past Star Trek producers, visual effects artists, and script writers have encouraged his project. The final piece for Foster is finding the right executive producer, and then he should be ready to approach CBS officially.

Interview by Jack Trevino

Trevino: What can you tell us about the series concept?
Foster: The series concept is fully developed, subject to change of course, with a solid 5-7 year series plan, pilot script and a conceptualized finale that intends to define Star Trek for generations, extensive character bios, costume and ship/set designs, and more. This is a drastic departure from the typical 8-10 page treatment of the previously pitched Star Trek series ideas that have not included even a pilot script.

Trevino: Star Trek has now been re-imagined via JJ Abrams well received vision of Gene Roddenberry's original series. Can you elaborate on whether your series will follow that same path?
Foster: Though Kevin and I did thoroughly enjoy Star Trek (2009), the vision that we have created is true to the "pre-2009 screen canon" (TV and movies).

Trevino: What is the time frame of your series?
Foster: The series is set in the post-Voyager era, and is designed to return Star Trek to its original series roots in big and mighty ways, without disregarding the other series and movies. As Star Trek (2009) was an alternate timeline, it will not conflict with any canon there either.

Trevino: What kind of show will it be?
Foster: The series is highly energized with a much younger cast, and uses cutting-edge future technologies with newly envisioned special effects and designs. It includes Klingons, Ferengi, Andorians, Vulcans, Trill, and many more. The Klingons are getting very restless since the Praxis incident forced them to come to the peace tables, and are tired of having to rely on the Federation for support. The Ferengi have discovered a vast new resource that has propelled them towards instant riches and power beyond anything they have previously experienced.

Trevino: Is there anything else you can offer the fans at this time?
Foster: Here's the Teaser: If evil wore the face of a hero, would you recognize it? If freedom came in the likeness of your oppressors, would you accept it? If you were your own enemy, who would be victorious?

"the vision that we have created is true to the pre-2009 screen canon"

Yes!! That's awesome. We can have two star trek time lines, one for the movies while at the same time keeping the old one and advancing it via television show format.

I can't wait for Star Trek to jump back to TV again. I think Abrams production co. holds the rights to any movie or TV endeavors Trek will do in the foreseeable future. Best of luck to this guy though.

Ya, I really hope this happens. I don't give a **** about the federations past, I want to see it's future. What happens post Voyager and Nemesis. And since it would be set in that period, former actors could make guest appearances in their old character roles, like Patrick Stewart or Avery Brooks.

As long as Ron Moore has nothing to do with it. I will forever remember him for how he molested and raped ST:TNG, then BSG.

Personally I thought the last movie merely ok, but I did think that for the most part the actors portrayed the iconic characters quite well. I've been saying for a long time that they needed to recast the original characters so I'm glad they went that route and would prefer they continue in that way with any new television series. I'm not much of a Star Trek fan outside of the classic so seeing a post Voyager series does not do much for me. That said, as with all tv and movies, it is the scripts that matter most.

I'm a die-hard Trek fan but this does not appeal to me at all. TOS was a low-budget venture into awesomeness, TNG had its moments. After that things went downhill in a hurry. Enterprise would have been better if the general public hadn't been Star Trekked to death by DS:9 and Voyager. Same old scripts, same old stories. Nothing to see here people, move along.

YESSSSS PLEEEEASSEEEEEE! bring back the original timeline, with all its backstory!

I like the 2009 movie but the new movie (the JJverse) its simply...empty.

deadpoox - 8/23/2011, 10:05 AM
ok i have a thought that they could do a remake of the original series but with the new cast from the movie because most of them have and still do tv and it would be nice but not completely remake it use different stories like the untold ones that Spock or kirk refer too at times

HOLY SHIT how did i not see this article sooner?

HELL YEAH to a new Trek series! I loved all the series, LOVED "First Contact" remains as my all-time favorite Trek film.

I'm with JackBauer on this in that I'm also a Trek-fan who happened to enjoy the 2009 film. It was a very fun and flashy film.

But having a t.v series that goes back to what Trek was initially supposed to be is great too! I mean, we can get back to simple exploration, maybe bring back the Q Continuum.

@Deadshot- Agreed my friend, having two diff types of Trek will be great!! The movies will be the alternate timeline. The new shows will be the regular timeline post-Janeway, LOL

I just hope for one thing- A MASSIVE cameo by Captain Picard. That's what I want in this new series.

LP4
LP4 - 8/24/2011, 2:00 AM
As a kid I wasn't hugely into TOS. TNG was my main thing as a kid. I saw every single episode and hence why- First Contact was my all-time favorite Trek film (sorry Abrams lol)

I would love to see heavy TNG influence in this new series.

Otherwise...

But other than that little bit of preference on my part, I'd say this new series sounds...
