Marti Noxon's Dream Project is Wonder Woman

Marti is the writer of Fright Night, but best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She sat down with Fear.net to talk about a possible sequel to Fright Night, and her interest in the Princess of the Amazons.

You've always had a penchant for strong female characters. Do you have a dream project?
Do you want to, like, create the next female action hero?

I would love to. To be honest - as scary as it is - part of me wishes I could take a crack at Wonder Woman. There was a moment where it looked like I might get involved in the TV version. She is one of the few in the canon that hasn't been exploited. There are reasons for that; there is stuff in her mythology that are really silly. The costume - she's in a star-spangled bathing suit! And she uses a "lasso of truth" and rides around in an invisible plane. But they don't have to be that way. I definitely have a point of view about that. If I could do it, and nobody could "yell at me"... if the internet wasn't poised to explode in hate, no matter what you did, I would be out there, really pushing for it

I don't think you could pick a better writer for Wonder Woman. Her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer raised a lot of praises and has helped her land her next gig which is writing the screenplay for the much anticipated, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The way the writers handled Buffy was outstanding. Really one of the few times in the entertainment world where female characters were multi-layered, not boxed into the typical steroetypes. Females were able to be strong at times, and weak at moments, but there was always substance behind their motivations and their dialogue. I for one would love to have Marti write the screenplay and Nicolas Winding-Refn Direct (Bronson), now that is a dream team.

I know Fright Night just opened, but has there been any talk of a sequel?
I think it all depends on how the film performs financially, unfortunately. We would love to do a sequel. Charlie Brewster and Peter Vincent as a team... there is great potential there.

Where would you want to take their story? Have you been plotting?
We have talked about ideas, but we didn't want to get ahead of ourselves. On I Am Number Four we all got ahead of ourselves because the tracking on it was great. It did okay in theatres, but it wasn't sequel-worthy. So we decided not to curse ourselves.

I'll tell you what, those foreign box office receipts for Fright Night had better be AMAZING, because that film was a bomb this past weekend. I don't think Marti will have to worry too much about the future of Charlie Brewster, or Peter Vincent. Now I haven't seen the film, I'm purely speaking based on the numbers, and they weren't pretty. I do plan to see the film soon, and hope most certainly that it is good. I'd love to see more of David Tennant in the sequel, as rumors have surfaced that his performance is so strong that the next film in the series would center around him.

this is the best costume design for a live action costume of Wonder Woman.

@Shunt, she may look good, but check out her audition for the Wonder Woman pilot or Femme Fatales. She is an incredibly weak actress.

They should just remake "Fright Night 2." Though I doubt they could do better than Julie Carmen as the vampire's sister seeking revenge on Charlie. If Noxon had anything to do with the irritating shallowness of Buffy, the faux toughness of Faith, the whining of Dawn, the wimpiness of every other female character, then keep her as far from any Wonder Woman project as possible. Oh, she's got a lasso of truth and star-spangled shorts - let's take those away from her. Next, she's no longer an Amazon from Themyscira - she's just an ordinary girl who suddenly got Amazon powers thrust on her. Hey, Marti - why not just create your own superhero?

...about the article: It seems like there's a healthy interest amongst movie makers to get their shot at a WW movie. Good. The more competition, the better the final outcome.
As for the actress: I've said before the best choice would be an unknown actress from the Baltic's or Italy who looks unbelievably hot, and can act great. If the woman they cast isn't 'god-like' beautiful, being Diana's an Amazon, she won't be received well at all. It's an absolute must that she be beautiful-just a real exotic beauty.

the best costume is the:

- Jennifer Connelly

- Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill in The Avengers)

- Amanda Righetti (Sharon Carter in The First Avenger & The Avengers)

but the last (Amanda Righetti) in my opinion, would be an excellent Poison Ivy in a possible quarter of Nolan's Batman, but after seeing the fan art Wonder Woman would walk nor bad

I would like to see jamie alexander as WW I think she would be perfect for the role. And this guy is an idiot, Thors mythology and powers are similar to WW and marvel was able to make it work so the same should be true with wonder woman. Hopefully this asswhipe never has the chance to come withen a 100 miles of a WW show/movie

See fanboys and girls? It's all our fault she won't go for her dreams.

... who cares? I'd love to see a Wonder Woman movie but I'd want the writer(s) to have confidence and to not care what whiny, over-analytical fans have to say over the internet.

my only choice for Steve Trevor is Mark Valley (Human Target, Boston Legal):

and the only choice for Hippolyta is Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman:

my second choice Lucy Lawless, Xena The Warrior Princess:

No....To do this right, you need a writer/Director who knows the COMIC character NOT the TV Show. Marti Noxon is too close to Joss Whedon, and I'd hate for him to get another crack at it. His approach was not good.
Optimus83
Optimus83 - 8/26/2011, 3:16 PM
Joss was a good choice for Wonder Woman, Marti Noxon is the second good choice, only because of its proximity to Joss Whedon

Would it be too much to ask for to have nipples added to Wonder Womans out fit. :) J/K

WW needs to get done period. But like someone mentioned already, who ever gets it needs to be familiar with the character not the t.v. show. I know that WW is hard to adapt but just look at Thor and how the G.A. accepted him. Also WW needs to be played by a great female lead not just some dumb chick with big accessories and no, I have nothing against accessories.

My take on what Marti said was that she has ideas running around about how to make some of these ridiculous ideas less ridiculous. For instance, perhaps the plane that Colonel Trevor crashes onto the island is a cutting edge fighter/interceptor with a stealth package that the Amazonian "engineers" are able to both repair and improve using magic and their own remarkable tech. Use the lasso as an offensive weapon, as they did in the JLU cartoon and you have the seeds of something that could be quite compelling.

Wonder Woman is a gold mine waiting to be discovered. Men would flock the theaters to watch a half naked, attractive woman kick ass and woman would flock to the movies theaters to watch their most relatable hero, a female with the same human issues but with mythology and power.

This movie can be fantastic with the right people leading the ship. But it can easily become a disaster. WB needs to hire writers who write for movies not TV SHOWS! Look at what happened with Green Lantern, they better have learned their lesson by now!

I would love to see a WW movie. If I were in Hollywood I would be working on trying to make this movie happen (after or if I couldn't get the Superman gig). WW needs to get her respect back. Yeah there are a lot of stupid things in her canon, but that stuff can easily be reinterpreted to make sense just like they did in the animated films she appeared in. She was cool as hell in those!

Oh, and all the actresses mentioned do not fit the role at all. They're either not attractive enough, can't act or just don't have the right body type. And as a woman, I want to see WW in the classic bikini costume. If she is supposed to be this "feminist" icon of comic books than she has to show the confidence in herself as a woman and wear that costume proudly and say, "I am woman! Here me roar!!" - or something like that, lol. If she is invulnerable like Superman, there is no point in her wearing armor the same way people argue that there is no point for Superman to be wearing armor!

Angelina still at the right age, like T. Lee Jones said in CA:TFA,
"somebody please throw her a sandwich"
she would be perfect, she can REALLY kick some ass, she can act and she is really beautiful !!
but if not her, please don't make it with megan foxy or christne hendrix....
