With all this excitement for
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo there is of course anticipation for the sequel. The second book in Stieg Larsson's trilogy,
The Girl Who Played with Fire, is in the works. According to Amy Pascal, the Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures, Steven Zaillian, who worked on the first script is just putting the final touches on the script for the sequel. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are signed on for the two potential sequels, but David Fincher is not. Would Fincher be interested in directing the sequel? He says,
"Not averse to the idea. Looking about as far into the future as dinner." Amy Pascal on the other hand says,
"My guess is David will be there too."
As for the chances of winning any awards, Fincher doesn't believe its possible, he says,
"There's too much anal rape."
Fincher on the R rating
David Fincher: "I couldn't be happier. We didn't want to whitewash it. We intend too earn our R. If you've read the Book, you know what I'm talking about."
"You Know, there are some rape scenes in this movie; there are people doing violence to each other. Nobody wants to be part of that transaction, even if it's fake. It can get ugly. When you have to be naked in front of 50 other people and chained to a bed and people are doing horrible things to you with objects...yeah, it's hard. But that was the story.
The challenges of playing Lisbeth
Fincher: "I told Rooney, 'You're going to be emaciated, you have to be naked, you have to get raped [on screen], get pierced, smoke cigarettes, ride a motorcycle.' I need you to really concentrate and tell me this is something you want."
Rooney Mara: "There were certainly things I was scared to do, but I never thought I wasn't up for the challenge. The motorcycle was the thing I really didn't want to do. You know, you're going to be raped, be naked...But as soon as he was like, 'You're going to have to ride a motorcycle,' I was like, 'Oh, really?'"
The challenge of Fincher's notorious amount of takes
Rooney: "You never want to have to smoke or eat in a David Fincher movie. You're doing it take after take. The eating is worse than the smoking. I was eating pizza in one scene , and I literally ate, like, 20 pieces."
