Access Hollywood: Helena Bonham Carter honored at BAFTAs
Helena Bonham Carter talks with Access about receiving the British Artist of the Year at the BAFTA Los Angeles 2011 Britannia Awards, but she is most excited to meet Helen Mirren who is presenting the award to her. Also, she discusses her upcoming projects, “Great Expectations” and Dark Shadows.”
MTV also caught up with the actress at the same event. She talked about the film version of the classic 1960's television soap opera,
Dark Shadows. Helena is playing the role of Dr. Julia Hoffman. A character in the television show that practiced psychology and treated rare blood disorders. Her main story arc in the show was that she treats Barnabas Collins, trying to cure him of his vampirism.
Helena Bonham Carter talked briefly about her version. She said, "“I did love playing her. I mean, she’s an alcoholic psychiatrist, so I hadn’t played that before. And she’s got a secret. They all have secrets.”
She was quick to praise the movie adaptation that Tim Burton has come up with she surprisingly takes a knock at the original. She explains, "“It’s actually a really bad, hilariously bad soap opera. And because it’s so bad, [Burton] felt he had to make a hugely expensive movie.”
“Dark Shadows” will star: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz and Jackie Earle Haley and is slated for a May 2012 release.
