Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few days you may not know that a bunch of juicy set photos from JJ Abrams'
Star Trek sequel have leaked online. We finally got our first look at the actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, who is rumored to be the villain in the film. Which villain he'll be playing is still up in the air but the mere fact that he is wearing a Starfleet uniform has many in the Trek community guessing he is either Kirk's best friend Gary Mitchell who becomes all powerful, or the prankster Finnegan.
IFC was able to grab a quick interview with Zachary Quinto at the Film Independent Spirit Awards last night. When asked about the recent set photos that leaked Spock had this to say.
"It is awesome. We’ve been working on that sequence for five days. The pictures leaking did not go over so well. They’re going to great lengths to preserve security"
While at the same event Zoe Saladana was also approached about the subject. She confirms that the photos leaking didn't go over so well, especially for director J.J. Abrams who is known for his secrecy.
"J.J. was very upset. I have to say that. It's not going to stop people from intruding, but they are, and it's such a bummer because it only hurts them by stealing away the surprise."
"Star Trek 2" stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Alice Eve. The film is expected to be in theaters May 17, 2013.
IFC had a busy night, besides getting some great interviews with Quinto and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, they also were able to get a few interesting quotes from Michael Shannon. The actor will be playing Superman's on screen nemesis, General Zod. A role that Terence Stamp made famous in Richard Donner's films, but Michael implies that his version may not be so menacing.
"He’s actually a not very scary guy. He’s just trying to do his job, just like anybody. Some people might hate him, some people might love him. But I’m fond of him. I respect him.”
