Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few days you may not know that a bunch of juicy set photos from JJ Abrams' Star Trek sequel have leaked online. We finally got our first look at the actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, who is rumored to be the villain in the film. Which villain he'll be playing is still up in the air but the mere fact that he is wearing a Starfleet uniform has many in the Trek community guessing he is either Kirk's best friend Gary Mitchell who becomes all powerful, or the prankster Finnegan.

IFC was able to grab a quick interview with Zachary Quinto at the Film Independent Spirit Awards last night. When asked about the recent set photos that leaked Spock had this to say.

"It is awesome. We’ve been working on that sequence for five days. The pictures leaking did not go over so well. They’re going to great lengths to preserve security"

While at the same event Zoe Saladana was also approached about the subject. She confirms that the photos leaking didn't go over so well, especially for director J.J. Abrams who is known for his secrecy.

"J.J. was very upset. I have to say that. It's not going to stop people from intruding, but they are, and it's such a bummer because it only hurts them by stealing away the surprise."

"Star Trek 2" stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Alice Eve. The film is expected to be in theaters May 17, 2013.

IFC had a busy night, besides getting some great interviews with Quinto and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, they also were able to get a few interesting quotes from Michael Shannon. The actor will be playing Superman's on screen nemesis, General Zod. A role that Terence Stamp made famous in Richard Donner's films, but Michael implies that his version may not be so menacing.

"He’s actually a not very scary guy. He’s just trying to do his job, just like anybody. Some people might hate him, some people might love him. But I’m fond of him. I respect him.”

Michael Shannon cast as Zod might be the greatest CBM casting ever.

Since kirk grew up with no father in this timeline Spock gets the chicks. But in the original timeline Kirk got all the space babes.

Michael Shannon is a VERY talented actor, and i'm happy that he is getting more recognizable roles now. His Zod will be amazing. Looking forward to the movie!

Oh no, I hoped they are not going for political correct and have Zod being a "freedom fighter and not terrorist" kind of character. This is a fantasy action movie. I want my good guy to be good and bad guy to be very bad, not "misunderstood"

Anyone notice that cumberbatch seems to be wearing a starfleet jersey (looks like the same as the style kirk was wearing for most of the first film)!!

There are some sick, sick guys in here. I'm not joking when I say a lot of you need to interact more with the outside world. Get a girlfriend, or a boyfriend, and, if you have one already, then I worry for their well-being.

Michael Shannon is way too [frick]ing fitting for General Zod. He'll probably be the best part of Man of Steel for me.

As for the leaked pics, yeah...someone got their ass fired for sure. As soon as I saw those pics, I knew that was the case.

Gary Mitchell's name popped out of the article before anything else and I thought this was confirming it, not reaffirming our suspicions! UGH!

I don't know how some of these people can take these pictures not and have anyone notice.

I can't wait to see Michael Shannon's Zod. He has some big shoes to fill though.

@grif That's all on the director, really. Zoe Saladana is actually great at action scenes.

I watched Colombiana, and she kicks all kinds of ass. The movie itself, not so much.

@EmpressSkeith Most of these guys are good guys, and are actually married or involved. Obviously, they're not shy when it comes to raunchy humor. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing IMO. And to be honest, I do it too sometimes.

You just have to know to not take it too far. I mean, I've seen this one guy's(not an active user) comment that makes some of these comments pretty mild in comparison.

I could have sworn J.J said Saldana would have a nudie scene in the film. May just have been my imagination though

@mgeoff88, Salesman being good at action scenes is a true statement. She did a great job in "Losers" and in "Columbiana". It would make plenty of sense to exploit that kind of talent and u.e it in a "Star Trek" sequel.
