Marvel Continues Fox Lockout By Cancelling ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR?

Marvel Continues Fox Lockout By Cancelling ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR?

Relations between Marvel and Fox have been edgy (to say the least) as of late with some members of Fox's creative team claiming Marvel were attempting to damage their Marvel comic book properties... and they might be right! Hit the jump to check out the latest twist!

In what appears to be yet another move in the Fox lockout, Marvel are cancelling the (new) Ultimate Fantastic Four after just six issues. The book's writer Joshua Hale Fialkov took to Twitter to announce that the book would end, saying the following, "Sad to say that UFF is finished with issue 6 and due to my illness last month, my last issue is 5. Heartbroken but extremely grateful."

Marvel have since confirmed Fialkov's statement, increasing suspicions that Marvel intend to decrease the popularity of their comic book properties owned by 20th Century Fox after reports last month claimed that publishers were restricting Fantastic Four comics.

What do you think? Is Marvel deliberately trying to force Fox's hand into releasing the team's film rights? Or are the team just not pulling in enough money? Sign off your thoughts below!

LOL Marvel stop it

They must really want the F4 in the MCU if they'll do anything for FOX's movie to fail.

If this is true than this is just childish on Marvel's part. Why taint the F4 movie franchise even more all that means is we will not get a Marvel Studios F4 for at least 6 to 8 years......

I really wish Marvel Studios can work out a deal with Fox and Sony to start folding their properties together. I mean you know SONY and FOX will continue to make these movies to keep these rights away from Marvel.

@JoeMomma It is known that there's some real deep hatred between Marvel and FOX. It's worse than the perceived Marvel vs. WB/DC rivalry that this site loves to portray

*Marvel cancels Ultimate FF*
*crickets chirp*
*Earth continues to turn*
*Fox movie reboot still sounds ridiculous*

I can't speak to what's going on at Marvel Publishing, but I can guarandamntee that canceling a comic that no one was reading will have zero effect on whether people go see a big budget summer tentpole movie.

@ Reasonnn

If this is true than all the Marvel fans can kiss any crossovers with FOX or Sony in the future. To me Marvel is becoming the bully on the play ground and eventually they are going to do themselves in by alienating themselves.

Heck imagine the box office numbers if you did a X Men/Avengers movie? Or any one of Marvel Studios movies crossover with Spidey? I mean there is so much more potential there.

If they were smart, they would actually sell merchandise for these non-MS movies to get more money, which could result in more buying power to get these rights back.

This is still speculation, though. In before the witchhunt.

@cipher Didn't miss anything special. I must admit the first six issues are actually pretty good but as the story continue it starts to lose its "groove". It tries too hard to be scientific and adventurous and loses focus on the "Fantastic" part of the characters and their journeys.

As shitty as ASM2 was (in my opinion) Marvel still has a good relationship with Sony. They helped Marvel Studios get started.
