Star Wars Episode VII director JJ Abrams is reportedly looking at five actors for the lead role in the 2015 blockbuster. They are: Downton Abbey's Ed Speelers, Attack the Block star John Boyega, Jesse Plemons, theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher. Not much is known about the role right now but it is believed to be the film's main protagonist and a Jedi.

The director is open to a diverse cast, with both David Oyewolo and Michael B. Jordan having done screen tests in early production. Abrams is expected to give the lead role larger actors in support, like Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford.

Just looked up these guys. If Boyega is in the mix, then they are all probably going after different roles, unless they're not caring how the characters looks in terms of race or nationality, which if that is the case...cool.

I think it would be awesome if a black guy was the star of the world's biggest franchise (it would be a gigantic testament to this era's advancements on equality), and John Boyega was the tits in Attack of the Block. So my vote's on him.

It's great to see more black people will be in Star Wars. All you have is Lando and Mace. So I hope they have more then just John Boyega. I also would enjoy seeing more theater actors in movies. So I would be okay with Mattew or Jay being in the movie. Lots of times theater actors are better then film actors. So going after better actors is always a good thing in my mind.

Jesus H! So the choices are: a guy from one of the most overrated piece's of shit movie in "Attack the Block", Matt Damon's younger redheaded stunt double and some guy who's in some British show where the central topic focuses on what tea to drink that week?

Fcck all three. I'm really starting to get worried for this JJ Star Wars... hopefully I'm wrong.

Just adapt the goddamn New Jedi Order, and use the film adaptation as an opportunity to fix the problems of the books.

Boom! EU saved. Yuuhzan Vong as antagonists that don't negate Anakin's sacrifice. Excellent opportunity for practical effects characters.

I can totally believe this. I work in the film industry, nothing as large as this film, but surprisingly a lot of crucial decisions often don't get made until very late in the game. I've seen actors come on board as little as 3 days before production begins.
