Over the past few months, rumors have been circulating the internet about the Inhumans making the theatrical debut. Recently, Marvel Studios fully announced their new phase three films, which include an Inhumans film slated for a November 2, 2018 release. Currently, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all hints to the Inhumans and their native city of Attilan have been made. In Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Director Phil Coulson’s team had just discovered that the strange carvings created by the individuals injected with the Kree blood was in fact a map to a secret city. Hydra is in possession of the Obelisk, or how Skye’s father refers to it as “The Diviner”. It appears that Skye’s father knows a considerable amount of information about The Diviner and what it actually is, and more importantly, what it can do. In the latest episode (Season 2, episode 8 “The Things We Bury”) he explains, that only those who are “worthy” can touch it. The purpose is to bring the Diviner to unlock the doors to the city. All of the evidence in this episode further proves the rumors of the secret city in the carvings being the native city to the Inhumans. The Inhumans are certainly coming and sooner than we had anticipated. The question is, when exactly will the Terrigen Mists spread in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
With Marvel’s phase three slate full, Kevin Fiege and the executives at Marvel have a cohesive and concrete plan for their cinematic universe. The Inhumans debut November 2, 2018. This leaves a four year gap between now and then. With numerous clues and blatant explanations, it is nearly guaranteed we will be seeing Attilan and the Inhumans before their debut. However, I would not say the royal family per say, but other Inhumans. What is intriguing is, when will the Terrigen bomb go off creating the wide spread of Inhumans across the Marvel Cinematic Universe? By the end of the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we are sure to at least find out the secret city and many more mysteries revolving around the obelisk and the Inhumans. Skye’s father states there is something in the Obelisk. I believe what is incased with the Obelisk is a Terrigen Crystal. This is what I believe will be used for the Terrigen bomb. Skye’s father motives seem very ambiguous at the moment, but it seems as if he is a man who has nothing to lose. It appears that he might be the one to set off the Terrigen bomb, spreading the mist across the globe causing an increase in the super powered population.
All of this sounds plausible, but when exactly will this occur? A bomb going off with mists blowing across the globe causing people to go into cocoons and gaining powers is something that would cause global panic. With Captain America: Civil War happening, we already know that a vast amount of super powered beings will be involved. If the Terrigen bomb were to drop before this movie, it would make sense, as there would be an enormous spike in the super powered population, providing more conflict for the story.
If the Terrigen bomb were to go off before Captain America: Civil War, would it be at the end of the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ? Well, this appears to be where the story is headed. What they could possibly do is have the bomb go off at the end of the season, which would cause for it to take place after the events of the film Avengers: Age of Ultron. After the catastrophe of the insane Artificial Intelligence, the Avengers team is shaken, and in addition to that, the Terrigen Mist has been released at the worst possible time for them. This leads to it spread and come in contact with as many people as possible, creating many super powered individuals. This would serve as nice time frame to drop the Terrigen bomb if Marvel intends on doing it before the Inhumans movie. This would then lead to the events of Captain America: Civil War.
That is a theory I believe might happen. If they choose to follow the source material, even loosely if the Terrigen bomb/mist should still be incorporated. When will it happen? That is up in the air. Making the incident take place before Captain America: Civil War makes sense, but Marvel may have another trick up there sleeve. By now, we all trust and believe that Marvel Studios knows what they are doing with their properties.
So what do you think? When do you think the Terrigen bomb/mist will go off in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Do you think it will go off at all? Could Marvel possibly be waiting for the Inhumans debut to introduce it?
