When will the Terrigen mist spread in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

With Marvel Studios phase three films tight slate and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. teasing the Inhumans, when exactly will we see the Terrigen mist spread in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Over the past few months, rumors have been circulating the internet about the Inhumans making the theatrical debut. Recently, Marvel Studios fully announced their new phase three films, which include an Inhumans film slated for a November 2, 2018 release. Currently, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all hints to the Inhumans and their native city of Attilan have been made. In Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Director Phil Coulson’s team had just discovered that the strange carvings created by the individuals injected with the Kree blood was in fact a map to a secret city. Hydra is in possession of the Obelisk, or how Skye’s father refers to it as “The Diviner”.  It appears that Skye’s father knows a considerable amount of information about The Diviner and what it actually is, and more importantly, what it can do. In the latest episode (Season 2, episode 8 “The Things We Bury”) he explains, that only those who are “worthy” can touch it. The purpose is to bring the Diviner to unlock the doors to the city. All of the evidence in this episode further proves the rumors of the secret city in the carvings being the native city to the Inhumans. The Inhumans are certainly coming and sooner than we had anticipated.  The question is, when exactly will the Terrigen Mists spread in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

With Marvel’s phase three slate full, Kevin Fiege and the executives at Marvel have a cohesive and concrete plan for their cinematic universe. The Inhumans debut November 2, 2018. This leaves a four year gap between now and then. With numerous clues and blatant explanations, it is nearly guaranteed we will be seeing Attilan and the Inhumans before their debut.  However,  I would not say the royal family per say, but other Inhumans. What is intriguing is, when will the Terrigen bomb go off creating the wide spread of Inhumans across the Marvel Cinematic Universe? By the end of the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we are sure to at least find out the secret city and many more mysteries revolving around the obelisk and the Inhumans. Skye’s father states there is something in the Obelisk. I believe what is incased with the Obelisk is a Terrigen Crystal. This is what I believe will be used for the Terrigen bomb. Skye’s father motives seem very ambiguous at the moment, but it seems as if he is a man who has nothing to lose. It appears that he might be the one to set off the Terrigen bomb, spreading the mist across the globe causing an increase in the super powered population.

All of this sounds plausible, but when exactly will this occur? A bomb going off with mists blowing across the globe causing people to go into cocoons and gaining powers is something that would cause global panic. With Captain America: Civil War happening, we already know that a vast amount of super powered beings will be involved. If the Terrigen bomb were to drop before this movie, it would make sense, as there would be an enormous spike in the super powered population, providing more conflict for the story.

If the Terrigen bomb were to go off before Captain America: Civil War, would it be at the end of the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ? Well, this appears to be where the story is headed. What they could possibly do is have the bomb go off at the end of the season, which would cause for it to take place after the events of the film Avengers: Age of Ultron. After the catastrophe of the insane Artificial Intelligence, the Avengers team is shaken, and in addition to that, the Terrigen Mist has been released at the worst possible time for them. This leads to it spread and come in contact with as many people as possible, creating many super powered individuals. This would serve as nice time frame to drop the Terrigen bomb if Marvel intends on doing it before the Inhumans movie. This would then lead to the events of Captain America: Civil War.

That is a theory I believe might happen. If they choose to follow the source material, even loosely if the Terrigen bomb/mist should still be incorporated. When will it happen? That is up in the air. Making the incident take place before Captain America: Civil War makes sense, but Marvel may have another trick up there sleeve. By now, we all trust and believe that Marvel Studios knows what they are doing with their properties.

So what do you think? When do you think the Terrigen bomb/mist will go off in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Do you think it will go off at all? Could Marvel possibly be waiting for the Inhumans debut to introduce it? Write what you think in the comment section below, and leave any theories or ideas on this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Good read, too many possibilities for me to decide. The bomb is a great excuse to use Sentry. Addict before bomb, granted powers my mist. Tries to hide past and become a hero. Addiction creeps in creating the Void.

Im loving this idea. If fits in with the rumours that speedball might pop up in AOS sometime in the future, as his normal self or his speedball persona. Think about it.
1. Season 2 introduces non powered Robert Baldwin. The season ends with the obelisk being taken to the ancient ruin site of Attilan (the current attilan is elsewhere), there its taken to the 'temple' and activated. The terrigen crystal inside the obelisk is used to become a terrigen bomb and explodes and causes many people worldwide to get powers and physical changes.
2. Season 3: Robert Baldwin has gained powers due to the terrigen bomb and has decided to become a superhero. He notifies his friends at shield and they tell him due to the events in AOU its best to stay on the down low for the time being, the public view on superheroes is beggining to sway and not in a good way. Shield decides to keep an eye on him and find others affected by the terrigen bomb. However there are those who were affected that are up to no good and robert cant let his gift go to waste, so he becomes speedball, inspiring others to fight injustice. A multi billionaire non powered person inspired by daredevil becomes night thrasher and decides to make a team of heroes like the avengers to bring back hope to the people. He invites speedball and others in this endeavor. This group is called the new warriors.

Season 3 continued:

Using there resources they are able to track down other supers and either help or defeat them. They seem to be mildly accepted by shield and the public until ....

Captain America: Civil war. The movie opens with the new warriors trying to take down a group of Villains in Stamford but it goes wrong. The villain nitro explodes taking out a large area. This event is the last straw, thus pushing forward the events of civil war.

That was a very good read so thank you and have a thumbs up.
@Ace101 That would be what ive thinking as well and think it would really be a possibility with all the momentum and driving forward of phase 3 and the tv phase really connecting everyrhing together very nicely.

it will definately happen, i think the inhumans film will tie into this heavily. like perhaps since the bomb when off the inhumans have been monitoring earth and occasionally they bring inhumans from earth to attilian. maximus is againt brining outsiders to the city even if they are now inhuman.

this could be the basis of the film, triggon could bring scarlet witch and quicksilver to attilian. here quicksilver can fall in love with crystal who is very interested in the outside world. then scarlet witch and quicksilver try to convince black bolt to aid in the war with thanos. he initially refuses but is eventually convinced when he sees the power thanos has (and he knows one thanos will be coming because the final gem in in attilian).

Theyre going to pull a "sorry Mario, your Princess is in another castle" with the city location that pinged on the map.
It's probably an outpost to Attilan or some sort of physical mirror communicative site.

@Gusto

I think Wanna Be a Baller would work better...

@Ruhail I was against them being inhumans at first but ive accepted it now. If they are going to be inhumans it would be smart if they lay down the foundations of the inhumans before AOU comes out aye.

scorpion8125- Kinghulk smash tiny scorpion!!!!!!!!!!

Syringe- true but this makes it easy for marvel to introduce heroes/villians who have powers without having to do all the origin story stuff.

Say skyes father is Maximus and he does set off the Terrigen bomb that would give the Inhumans reason to come to Earth, if they need one. There are so many paths it's all a matter of how Marvel wants to play it. What is clear tho is that the eventsame on agents of shield are important to the mcu.

Very well written article. I personally believe that this current agents of Shield story arch will play a huge part in the first half of the MCU's phase 3. The terrigen Mist bomb definitely fits in nicely with bumping up the super powered population for the civil war story line. The terrigen mist would also fit nicely with the idea of a government registration act. Marvel has stated before that the Inhumans will bridge the gap of mutants in the MCU. This is very exciting indeed. I love what Marvel is doing.
