Yeah....another zombie video game. That's probably what you are thinking. Not only that, but just about every other media outlet is saturated with the undead, so why should you be excited about another video game based around the "living" dead?
Dead Island is a little bit different, so give this one a chance.
So what is it that makes it so different from all the others?
Dead Island is set in a resort on an island off the coast of Papua New Guinea, so the likelihood of the "heroes" of the game getting hold of large amounts of firearms and ammunition are very slim and the creators of the game, Techland and Deep Silver, took this to heart. Instead of the massive arsenal that gamers are used to in this type of game, they are forced to use more real-to-situation weapons, like broom handles, fire axes and golf clubs. There will be the occasional fire arm, but the ammunition will be quite scarce.
From IGN:
Rather than run-and-gun their way through a meat maze, players will be forced to scavenge for objects and use them to beat their undead foes into submission. There are precious few firearms scattered around the island (and even less ammo), so the majority of the combat will be intimate. Knives, machetes, bats, broomsticks, pipes – these are your defenses against the horde of infected monsters. It's survival horror with a melee action twist, and it's disgusting.
Dead Island's developers call it a "first-person zombie-slasher/action-RPG." That's a mouthful, and it's still unclear what the balance will be among those descriptors. Players will be able to choose from a cast of pre-set characters, including a former rapper named Sam B (the only character revealed so far).
The trailer below is quite stunning to watch, especially since it is for a video game and it definitely has a high level of emotion. Take a look and comment below. Be sure to check out the link below for more information on the game. I'm not a huge gamer, but this game sounds absolutely incredible and tons of bloody, gory, violent fun!
