UPDATED: Dead Island Game Already Optioned for a Film Adaptation

The net is abuzz over the trailer for the upcoming game Dead Island, one of the most unique and incredible game trailers released. It seems as though a film based on the game has already been optioned.

The other day, I posted a trailer for the upcoming zombie game Dead Island (which can be seen below). Ever since it hit the web, people have been going nuts over the emotional and very well made trailer. It's been discovered that producer Sean Daniel (The Mummy) and Union Entertainment have been sitting on the film rights for some time now reports The Wrap.

Daniel, along with Union Entertainment President Richard Liebowitz and producer Dmitri Johnson, have been tracking the game's development for several years, and acquired rights to it in 2009. Daniel ("The Wolfman," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon") and Union are scrambling to find the right script.

The problem here is that the trailer does not depict any game play; the images were put together specifically for that trailer. So one has to wonder if the film will be based on the actual game...or the trailer that has created so much buzz. If I had to take a guess, I'd say they go with he emotion and chaos of the trailer.

You can view a brief synopsis of the upcoming Dead Island game, which is set to release late 2011, by clicking HERE and check out the incredible trailer below. Again...the trailer is a bit graphic and should be for eyes of the older kids!

UPDATED It appears as this news was premature and the rites to this property have not been sold in order to make a film. This is a quote from the CEO of KOCH Media, the parent company for Deep Silver:

"We are looking for quality above all else for a movie based on Dead Island. We want to do it the right way as film realizations of games (or vice versa) usually fail to deliver what the fans were looking for. We will not go down this route with Dead Island. Deep Silver profoundly believes in the quality and value of its Dead Island IP"

I can't say I'm disappointed by this news, as we have yet to see any actual game play, so we don't know whether or not this property is actually worthy of basing a movie off it. I still think this trailer is incredible though!

That'd be one of the most depressing zombie films ever.

Night of the Living Dead's depiction of the zombiefication of a child (over the course of an entire movie no less) was far, far less depressing than this trailers 3:08 minutes.

Great trailer, but holy crap did it leave me bitter.

tbh thats what i think zombie films, games, media etc had lost nowadays. everyones so focused on running around getting headshots and axeing of zombie limbs that they've forgotten about the emotion. this trailer encapsulates perfectly how to present it and hopefully inspire others to get the zombie plots back on track

I think this is a good idea.
The last Zombie film that had me feeling emotion for the characters (& rooting for their survival) was Shaun Of The Dead.
And that was in 2004. (7 damn years ago!) We should've had lots more since then.

I hope the game is half as good as that trailer. Also a movie based of the concept/story of the game is actually a good idea and I dont think done before. I agree and hope they also touch the emotional side in the movie if they do make one.

@thewolfx The movie was optioned in 2009, before the trailer was released. So no, they're not making a movie based on the trailer.
