The other day, I posted a trailer for the upcoming zombie game
Dead Island (which can be seen below). Ever since it hit the web, people have been going nuts over the emotional and very well made trailer. It's been discovered that producer Sean Daniel (
The Mummy) and Union Entertainment have been sitting on the film rights for some time now reports The Wrap.
Daniel, along with Union Entertainment President Richard Liebowitz and producer Dmitri Johnson, have been tracking the game's development for several years, and acquired rights to it in 2009. Daniel ("The Wolfman," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon") and Union are scrambling to find the right script.
The problem here is that the trailer does not depict any game play; the images were put together specifically for that trailer. So one has to wonder if the film will be based on the actual game...or the trailer that has created so much buzz. If I had to take a guess, I'd say they go with he emotion and chaos of the trailer.
You can view a brief synopsis of the upcoming
Dead Island game, which is set to release late 2011, by clicking

UPDATED It appears as this news was premature and the rites to this property have not been sold in order to make a film. This is a quote from the CEO of KOCH Media, the parent company for Deep Silver:
"We are looking for quality above all else for a movie based on Dead Island. We want to do it the right way as film realizations of games (or vice versa) usually fail to deliver what the fans were looking for. We will not go down this route with Dead Island. Deep Silver profoundly believes in the quality and value of its Dead Island IP"
I can't say I'm disappointed by this news, as we have yet to see any actual game play, so we don't know whether or not this property is actually worthy of basing a movie off it. I still think this trailer is incredible though!
