A few months ago, I noticed something strange in Captain America: Reborn #1. This:
No explanation has been given for why Marvel chose to alter Captain America's WWII costume with a helmet design similar to the one used in The Ultimates 2 and a new design that changes the 'A' symbol as well as removing the wings and replacing them with symbols instead.
You may also notice that the costumes boots and belt are far more similar to the Ultimate version's costume. In fact, the costume seems to be what many of us have been asking for - a mix between classic and ultimate!
In subsequent issues that have featured WWII flashbacks and flashes to earlier times in the Marvel Universe the costume has been the same as we all know from the past 60+ years of Captain America comic books.
However, in the previews for next week's Captain America: Reborn #5 the classic costume is featured but this time with the different 'A' design on the mask but with the regular wings...
My question is, could this be Marvel dropping ideas for the movies costumes into these comic books to guage fan reaction to these new designs? Ed Brubaker has featured numerous WWII flashbacks in his 50+ issue run on the title and they have never featured a differently designed costume.
With Captain America's return on the horizon and a casting announcement getting nearer, do you think these new costumes have any significance to what we might see in The First Avenger: Captain America?
