FAN CAST: BioShock by JoshW

FAN CAST: BioShock by JoshW

Here are my choices for who I’d like to see star in an adaptation of the video game, BioShock! Included are all of the main characters as well as all of the information you need to know to familiarise yourself with the world of Rapture…

THE PLOT

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

"BioShock lets you do the impossible as you explore a mysterious underwater city. When your plane crashes, you discover Rapture - an underwater Utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically modified "splicers" and deadly security systems, you have to come to grips with a deadly, mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. As little girls loot the dead, and biologically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. Now you’re trapped, caught in the middle of a genetic war that will challenge both your capacity to survive and your moral allegiance to your own humanity. Make meaningful and mature decisions that culminate in the grand question - do you exploit the innocent survivors of Rapture to save yourself - or risk all to become their saviour?"

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BIOSHOCK

Big Daddy

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Big Daddies are genetically-enhanced human beings who have had their skin and organs grafted into an enormous diving suit. The Big Daddy is the brainchild of Dr. Yi Suchong. Knowing that the Little Sisters would be at great risk if they were out on the streets gathering ADAM with no protection, Suchong sought to rectify the problem. The candidates were placed in large vats with a substance that effectively turns them into mindless drones and were given enhanced strength and agility. The suits also give them the ability to resist deep ocean pressure to a depth of six miles.

Little Sisters

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Little Sisters are young girls appearing to be around seven years old who have been genetically altered and mentally conditioned to reclaim ADAM from the dead around Rapture. Little Sisters are almost always accompanied by a Big Daddy. They are completely immune to damage and have no offensive abilities. Attacking them, however, will incur the wrath of their protector. And like a run-of-the-mill Splicer, exposure to ADAM also drives the Little Sisters completely mad unless they are rescued.

ADAM & EVE

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

ADAM is the raw form of the unstable stem cells harvested and processed from a type of Sea Slug parasite and can be genetically manipulated to produce cells that would not normally be present in the human body. EVE is a modified version of ADAM which allows the use of Plasmids.

Plasmids

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Plasmids are special serums made from processed ADAM that introduce special stem cells into the body, allowing for genetic modification and real time mutation, giving the user what some might call "super powers". Plasmids are powerful, but excessive use of them leads to physical and mental addiction, as well as insanity. This helped to bring about the downfall of Rapture.

Splicers

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Due to abusive ADAM consumption, the remains of Rapture’s human population have had their bodies and minds deformed beyond repair and they have become dependent on the substance, both mentally and physically. They wander the corridors and the tunnels of Rapture searching for ADAM, usually in the form of Little Sisters, which often puts them at odds with their Big Daddy protectors—something which Jack can easily exploit to help him survive.

THE CHARACTERS

Wentworth Miller as Jack Ryan

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Jack is the silent protagonist of BioShock. He is a young Caucasian male and prior to his unwilling arrival in Rapture, he was a passenger on an airplane that crashed near the lighthouse that provided entry to the underwater city.

Other Characters/Flashbacks

Although there are probably hundreds of characters both heard and referred to in the collectable audio diaries that feature in the game, this obviously wouldn’t work in a movie adaptation so to further explore both the origins of Ryan and Atlas as well as Rapture itself, I’d like to see the following characters (who I believe are important to the back-story) feature in the movie during flashbacks.

Kristin Davis as Diane McClintock

After turning her back on Ryan after seeing the consequences of his ideals and the undoing of the city she once loved she overheard Fontaine planning his "con" as Atlas. He then murdered her in order to keep her quiet.

@Josh, Great Cast! I've still to play the second one but I loved the first one!

@Ozy, How could you not like this game?!?!?! I found it to be the best game that really engages you and draws you right into the story! Play it on a big screen, surround sound with the lights off and alone and it makes the experience even better!

Good work Josh, IMDB also have Wentworth as Jack! hopes he actually gets it too.

JoshWilding - 3/20/2010, 12:27 PM
Breasticles7: Thanks man, much appreciated! :)

OZY: Cheers dude! I remember your cast (and actually took another look at it before making this one so I was sure I wasnt subconsiously picking the same actors that you did, lol!) and it was excellent! Personally, I loved the game! Everything from the story to the graphics and great atmosphere was a big win in my eyes! I loved Assassins Creed II - I was thinking of doing a cast for the first one at some point but not until I've gotten through my "Coming Soon..." list above! Sorry, but I cant help you with changing the frame colour - on "Paint" you can choose from a list but as I dont use Photobucket for even uploading my images, I have no clue how you do it there!

joslezio8: Thanks! I always make sure to go into a lot of detail with my videogame casts as I'm sure that there'll be a fairly large amount of people who'll look at this but will never have played the game before! I know there's a lot of info up there but I'd rather give too much than leave people not knowing what the hell BioShock is, lol!

TheAnswer: Thanks mate! I actually finished the second one a few days ago which is what inspired me to make this cast! It's worth picking up but, in my opinion, it just isnt as good as the first one. Whereas something like Uncharted 2 took all of the good points from the first game and improved them x100, Bioshock 2 just felt far too similar for my liking and story-wise, just wasnt in the same league although to be fair it is still pretty good! You're completely right about the first one in your comment to OZY though - I still remember how brilliantly atmospheric it was taking on a roomful of splicers with the song, "Somehwere Under The Sea" playing in the backround! :) Really epic stuff!

SolidSnake: Thanks, I'm a big fan of Miller's from Prison Break (so much so that in my very first cast for CBM, he was actually my choice for who should play Captain America, lol!) and I'd heard the rumours of him being cast in the planned movie adaptation so that was a big part of the reason why I chose him for Jack! That and the fact that he's a brilliant actor and looks completely perfect for the role of course!

Nice job Josh

I'm not much of a gamer, so not really familiar with the game. It's good to learn more about it, Thanks. I like all the actors you have picked and most seem spot on from looks wise and your descriptions. Viggo seems to be a popular casting choice as of late.

Like I said, don't really know the game but why didn't you cast little girl, big daddy or splicers?

@Ozy, Bioshock is a Sci-Fi game! I think thats the kind of point that it's set in a kind of steampunkish/sci-fi world. To each their own i suppose though! I was about a quarter way through mass effect when my xbox broke and i've only just recently got a working one so i'm planning on starting it again!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 3/20/2010, 1:45 PM
DOGS: Thanks bud, I'm glad that the info above was useful and interesting to you! I hadnt actually been planning this cast and had about half of these actors in mind for the roles - I cant tell you how suprised I was when I was making the pictures and a lot of them look completely like the characters I've cast them as! (the last time that happenned was in my New Warriors cast!) Fantastic point about the Little Sister's! I cant believe I was stupid enough to forget to cast them! I'll have to update this in a few minutes - thanks for reminding be man! As for the splicers, there are literally hundreds of them that you come across in the game, none of whom serve any more purpose than a soldier in a Call of Duty game does...they're only there to get shot, lol! If this movie does indeed get made, I would have thought they'd be played by extras with bigger parts given to one or two of them similar to the Orcs in the LOTR movies! As for the Big Daddies, I would probably keep them as being entirely CGI - you never see their faces or voices during the game! Anyway, I'm pleased you enjoyed the cast - thanks again! :)

OZY: I'm not sure...Snyder would do a great job with capturing the look and violent feel of the game (as he did with Watchmen) but I'm not completely sure if he's a subtle enough director to capture the more emotional aspects of the characters. I'd be more than happy if he was chosen to direct this though! Great choice man!

Brandonwlobo: Glad you like the cast dude, thanks! :) I know that one or two of the actors I've chosen are a little off when it comes to their age but I decided to go with who I think would best suit the characters personalities - make-up can do the rest, lol! (although despite a character like Steinman being far older than Fiennes, I think he still looks the part with, as I said above, the help of some make-up!) I'll be more than happy to send you the info on how I embed the links - keep an eye on your inbox!

JOSH @ Great job, not actually played this one, but i should buy it, im more a HALO nut than anything lol!

I know some of the characters though and looks spot on, thanks for the info, im a lil rusty but new on this one lol!

Favorite pick is BORAT/ALI G up there!

I'm thinking of doing a video game cast or two at some point, you and OZ man have inspired me! ; D

TANKGIRL: Hey, I'm sorry I missed your earlier comment! I was about to edit my own comment above to respond to you but got distracted by having to add Little Sister to the cast! Anyway, I'm glad you like it, thanks! Thanks bud! :) I only have a PS3 so I dont have any of the Halo games! I've played all 3 of them though and they're decent enough...I'm just not big on games in that type of setting really! (PS3 FTW!!!) I'm glad you like the cast - you should easily be able to pick this game up cheap now it's a few years old! Cohen is a brilliant actor (didnt enjoy Bruno all that much though!) and I think he'd be perfect for, uh...Cohen, lol! You should definitely do a video game cast! They make a nice change actually and I'm already thinking of doing a few others! Looking forward to it mate!

WHAT THE HELL!?!?! how did I miss this earlier?

anyway I must say I played the game (rented it) and I
must say I did not like the game..But hey that's just me. I must ask..I asked OZY already, but have you played
FFXIII? I am playing it right now and I LOVE IT..but I don't have the time to put a fan cast together for that game. any chances you are going to do one? or maybe a RESIDENT EVIL 5 fan cast!

anyway again..I think you choice are very good, even though I never played the game. But I like those actors
like:

Franka Potente, who was AWESOME in the BOURNE movies!

Ben Kingsley put up a great performance in SHUTTER ISLAND!!

Joseph Fiennes also a great actor in FLASH FOWARD! I'm begining to LOVE that show.

Viggo Mortensen..AMAZING in THE ROAD!! that is a must see!

again GREAT cast MAN!

I like it man

I'm a big fan of Bioshock and i always loved the rumors of Wentworth miller being Jack Ryan. He would totally own it.

The rest of the cast is really good too. A little to big of actors though. I doubt some of these people would accept being second to Wentworth Miller lol. But no its really good.

JoshWilding - 3/20/2010, 4:37 PM
flames809: Thanks man, each to one's own I guess! Personally, I loved the game! One thing we can agree on though is that a movie would be awesome!!!

Ryden: Cheers dude, much appreciated! I know exactly what you mean - there are a pile of games I've been meaning to play for a while as well! You should definitely pick this up when you get chance though. It's a damn good game especially for the bargain price you can find it for now! Looking forward to seeing your upcoming casts! And writing in bold and italics sure is fun, lol!

LEE: Cool man, let me know what you think of BioShock when you get around to playing it! :) Any ideas what video game casts you might do?

PETE: Hey bud, thanks for your comment! :) I hadnt been planning on this cast and it's taken me a few days to put together so I'm pleased you like it! And hey - we all have different tastes! For example, I'm no a fan of the Final Fantasy series of games, lol! Sorry dude, but it's unlikely I'll be doing a cast for that! (though I'd love to see your take on it!) As for Resident Evil 5? Let's just say that there's a very good chance I've already started planning that so keep an eye out in the coming weeks..! Completely agree with the points you make about all of those actors! Have you seen the latest episode of FlashForward? It was pretty damned awesome!!!

BatmanKnight: Thanks mate! I completely agree with you about Miller! The guy's an amazing actor and would really do well in a role like this! Lol, I did my best to not cast huge A-List stars with Miller in the lead role but guys like Craig, Kingsley and Mortensen are, in my opinion, so perfect for the roles I've cast them in I couldnt resist! :P And hey, if they're paid enough I'm sure they'd be ok with it!
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 3/20/2010, 5:51 PM
JOSH- LOL! I think I am the only one who likes the FF
games! LOL. I like RPG's like FABLE 1 and 2
and I can't wait for 3! and I am a huge HALO, and
Silent Hill, Fallout 3, fan! I play anything that
peaks my intrest!
THAT'S IT!!! I am going to make time to put
together a Final Fantay XIII fan cast!!!
LOL, It's going to be one tough story to explain!
and alot of CGI characters! LOL!
as for Flash Foward, that 2 hour season premire
was DAMN FINE!!

PETE: Dude, I loved Fallout 3! I bought all of the DLC and played that game for over 80 hours until I had every last trophy (and I still havent explored everything!) I hope you get around to making that FF cast because although I'm not a huge fan of the series, you have some great casting ideas and I'd like to see what you come up with mate!

THEHAWK: Cheers bud, I'm really pleased that you like it! I wasnt sure about one or two of these as I was making it but the whole thing has turned out to be better than I expected! I think I'll have to start doing more videogame casts in future as my last one (based on the Uncharted series) was pretty well recieved also! I'm especially pleased you like Viggo - I had a few other actors lined up but he was my favourite as well! And once again, brilliant story dude! I just hope you do the Iron Man 2 one I saw you mention last time I was there! :)

Ryden: After you finsh writing what you want in bold or italics, just remember to put after it the same thing you put in front only with a / before the i or b! That should stop it from continuing through the rest of your comment/article!

Josh is the greatest, oh yes he is, Josh is the greatest!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Dude, you have just made one of the BEST f*cking fancasts on this site!!!!!!!!! I agree with every single pick!!!!! I love this game so much I could cry if it broke.

So, you didn't like 2 as much as 1 huh? I loved the story of 2 but it wasn't as good as 1. But Subject Delta, the voice acting, and the graphics/gameplay made up for that. I like 2 just a wee bit better than one. Have you played mulitplayer yet?? Its pretty freaking AWESOME!!!! Its a lot like MW2's multiplayer though not nearly as good...

I must saw once more though. THIS IS A GREAT FRICKING FANCAST AND DESERVES A MILLION THUMBS UP!!!!!!!

Josh is the greatest, oh yes he is, cause Josh is the greatest!!!!!! (Sorry about the little song, but when someone makes a great fancast of my favorite video game, I feel I have to sing).

CRITIC: Whoa, you're too kind mate!!! (though I might have to record that song as my new ringtone, lol!) I was actually hoping you'd see this especially as I know you're such a huge fan of the games! Bioshock 2 was brilliant and playing as a Big Daddy was awesome (as was the voice acting - better than the first in some ways) but I just found it to be a little too similar and was hoping for more of a change since the first one! However, there was a lot of cool moments that instantly come to mind...for example, the level which you run back through as it floods was pretty damned exciting and something the last one couldnt match! I havent tried out multiplayer yet because I'm in the process of changing providers and so I'm cut off until that arrives, lol! (and stuck using mobile broadband on my laptop for the time being!) Anyway, thanks again bud - it's great to know that CBM's biggest BioShock fan likes this cast!!! :)

Ryden: No worries man! ;)

DDD: Thanks mate! It's the opposite with me really! I've never been a huge fan of futuristic, sci-fi games to be honest! I have the odd few (Fallout 3, Dead Space, Killzone 2) that I really enjoy but for the most part I prefer action adventure games like Grand Theft Auto IV and Assassins Creed! Have you ever considered doing a Halo cast? I'm betting if you did, it'll be awesome!

lc: Haha, thanks! ;)

ANIL: Cheers bud, I appreciate that! As I've said somewhere above, I always try to cram my videogame casts full of info as I know there will be a large amount of people who wont have played them making the cast pointless if it's just a bunch of pictures with a brief synopsis of the game at the start! I'm not sure about Street Fighter because I was never a huge fan of those games...however, I have actually started thinking about doing a Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe cast because I really enjoyed that! Awesome dude, I'll go and check out your Spidey cast as soon as I'm done here!

Vital: Thanks, I'm glad you like it! :) It often takes a while to hunt down short bios for the characters in my comic book casts but it's even harder in the videogame ones! They're usually a combination of Wikipedia, ComicVine and my own word so it's good to see that people apprectiate them and find them helpful! Atlas was pretty difficult and I went through a lot of actors (even at one point thinking about casting two - one for Fontaine and one for Atlas!) but I think I settled on a good choice with Craig!

Josh@, don't get me wrong! I love Grand Theft Auto and
action games! I really love driving games! But when I
play Sci-fi games I mainly like futuristic sci-fi or comic
book games like Arkham Asylum. Just never got into
BIOSHOCK in particular but I'm not just stuck solely on
