EXCLUSIVE: Gregg Hurwitz Talks Moon Knight Movie and Comic!

The writer of Marvel's The Vengeance Of The Moon Knight talks about what it's been like writing the comic book and the possibility of a Moon Knight movie...

Gregg Hurwitz is a critically acclaimed, internationally bestselling author and has written screenplays for various movie studios including Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Paramount Pictures. His comic book work for Marvel has so far included Wolverine, Punisher MAX, and Foolkiller while he is currently writing the new series, The Vengeance Of The Moon Knight.

I was lucky enough to recently get in touch with Gregg and asked him about what it's been like to write the character and find out whether he'd like to see Moon Knight make his way onto the big screen following in the steps of other Marvel heroes like Iron Man and Spider-Man.

"It's been a blast writing my boy - always a challenge juggling all those different personalities, and with Khonshu always waiting there for him to take a misstep. One thing that's been best about Vengeance is embedding MK in the heart of the Marvel U - I got to write the character struggling to be heroic again, with big set action pieces and a great series of artists - both for the covers and the book itself."

"I would love to see MK as a big movie franchise. And who knows, especially now that Marvel has their own studio out here."

"All best to you and all the Moon Knight fans out there!"

Thanks of course to Gregg for taking the time to share his thoughts about this and to find out more about him and his past and upcoming work click HERE!

Nice Job Josh! Steppin up your game! How did you end up meeting him?

MK could be one of those smaller budget films Marvel has been talking about and still be done very well.

this could be one of those low budget Marvel movies! i think Moon Knight would excel in a low budget setting. make it dark and gritty.

That would be AMAZING!!!!!! I love Moon Knight, please make it so. If not I'll settle with a Moon Knight animated movie.

But I'd rather have this. ; )~

Thanks DOGS! :) I emailed him a few months ago when he first started writing the series to tell him what a huge fan I was of his novels and what he was doing with Moon Knight (to which he was kind enough to reply) and decided a few days ago to see if he had the time for a quick Q&A about the series and the possibility of a movie that I could post here! Once again, I was lucky enough that he had time to tell me the above! Couldnt ask for a nicer guy!

tea: Lol, cheers mate! :)

MULTI: Thanks bud, Moon Knight is right up there with Doctor Strange and Black Panther as the next Marvel character I want to see on the big screen! Although I exchanged a few emails with him, I didnt do an actual Q&A - the above is his response to a general question I asked him in my first message about what it was like writing the series and whether he'd like to see a movie featuring the character! :)

Nice, a Moon Knight movie could be great.

They should really include Jack Russell as at least a supporting character... but, yeah, I think Moon Knight would be a great character for one of Marvel's "low budget" projects they're so eager to get off the ground.

By the way...

was there or was there not a japanese Moon Knight show on in the 80s?

We'd all love a movie

And not that much non-comic people know about him and this would get him well-known

Stating the obvious but y'know just saying

Faust1973
Faust1973 - 4/22/2010, 1:58 PM
...and Poni, there's no reason MK can't be a hard R...like I said, he could be the next Blade...just, no mercy ala Dirty Harry and Charles Bronson...with a supernatural twist...no reason for him to have to be on the same level as, say, Spidey...he is, by definition, a dark character...

LEE: Yeah, I've been working on this for a few days to be honest - that's why I've had to cut back on doing any fan casts this week! I'll hopefully have a few more of these coming up in the near future as well..! And thanks dude, much appreciated! :)

As for what I'd like to see in a movie adaptation, it would have to be the version of the character that's around at the moment.

I was never a fan of the character in recent years because he was becoming like a costumed version of The Punisher! Seeing him now as a hero who's battling that urge though is far more interesting in my opinion and would work brilliantly in a movie!

That and the fact that his new suit looks [frick]ing awesome! :P

HAWKS: Thanks mate! :) Yeah, I've been surprised by how many responses I've got especially from comic book writers who I imagine are constantly busy what with having deadlines to meet and everything! The fact that they're so willing to reply just goes to show what a great bunch they are I guess!

@ Talontd: Yes it does. If there's anybody that needs to have an R rated movie it's this guy. He's always been super brutal, even back int he old pre Avengers days when flew around the world with "Frenchie" chasing terrorists and art thieves.
He was more likely to brain an opponent with some nunchucks, than to take them to the authorities. And then that awesome run from a few years back really ran with that and reintroduced him as a Punisher like lethal enforcer who went around cutting people's foreheads and breaking knees in the crappy parts of town. I;m sure most fans want to see that particular incarnation, and I am one of them.

Josh... I love you in a strictly non-homoerotic manner. Thank you so very much, lmao.

As for Affleck, I dunno. If he can bulk up, maybe.

I say Karl Urban.

Very cool @ JOSH, looking forward to them!!!

BMAN @ MARVEL said they was doing a TV series dude, just never happened, he was even gonna have a cameo on the BLADE Spike TV series, but that flopped and didn't happen either dammit lol.

Oh and...

Maybe we can get some kinda crossover on the big screen in the future???

LEE: Hell yeah to Michael C. Hall as Daredevil!!! There is literally nobody who's more perfect for the role! I heard recently that he's recovering well from his Cancer and should be filming the next season of Dexter in the summer! A lot of people (you know the guy I'm talking about, lol) on here wrote him off when it was first reported but I'm glad that most of us never lost faith in him because he was born to play the Man Without Fear! :)

Sinister allows himself to be captured by the X-Men.
Hey everyone, check out my new story

X-Men: Sinister Truths

The dreaded Mister Sinister is captured by the X-Men and held prisoner in a cell beneath the X-Mansion. But was this all just a clever ruse to further his own goals?

Find out in the last tie in to my upcoming X-Men: Rise of Apocalypse.

This story may also feature the best battle I have ever written. Check out this action packed thrill ride.

Alright, this is the last tie in to my upcoming X-Men 6: Rise of Apocalypse. It is a story focusing on Sinister and his effects on the X-Men. It also may contain the best battle scene I have written.

A Moon Knight movie would be awesome! So, does anyone know if the lower budget Marvel movies are in-continuity with the big budget ones? I can't see why they wouldn't be, just wondering if anyone knows for sure.
BaronBubba
BaronBubba - 4/22/2010, 9:16 PM
I honestly believe that a 2nd Avengers film loosely based on the Grand Theft America storyline from the Ultimates would be the best chance to introduce characters like Moon Knight, Dr. Strange, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Heroes for Hire, Midnight Sons, Black Panther, The Warriors, Power Pack, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Woman, Shang-Chi, and whoever had their rights revert back to Marvel (Daredevil? Punisher?) as well. The big fight/war throughout New York would be a good chance to showcase certain characters to catch people's eyes.

And once again...

Karl Urban for Marc Spector/Jake Lockley/Steven Grant/MOON KNIGHT!

Michael Duncan Clark for Raoul Bushman/Faceless Khonshu.
