Benjamin Walker Dropped From X-Men: First Class!

The actor who was all set to play Beast in the upcoming X-Men movie has apparently been fired by Fox for being too old! However, he might not be out of the running just yet...

According to Baz Bamigboye who writes in the British newspaper, The Daily Mail, Walker (28) who was reported last month to be locked in to play a young Hank McCoy was dropped this week because of his age.

Bamigboye writes, "'Fox absolutely loved him, booked him and the next minute they're saying they don't want him. It was bizarre because they'd signed a deal on him,' a source intimately involved in The Situation told me from Los Angeles yesterday."

Apparently, Fox were worried that the actor was just too old to play the teenage Beast when the actors they've hired for Professor X and Magento (James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) are 31 and 33 respectively. However, the article does finish on rather an odd note as it seems there's still a chance we'll see him in the movie in the very role he's just lost:

"The Fox studio screened-tested three other potential Beast actors at Pinewood yesterday, but I'm told they didn't seem right for the role. Strangest thing of all is that late last night, I started hearing that Fox might end up re-offering Walker his Beast role back!"

That's completely RETARDED. How the [frick] do you hire someone, then fire him on accounts of facts you already KNEW, and then maybe decide to give him the job anyway?!?!?!? Only at FOX.

Maybe Sony should fire Andrew Garfield because of his age....he'll be 29 when the damn movie comes out.

I hope that it is that original team.

I think that the road they could be going is having a school of mutants, and Prof X and Magneto are co-princils of the school, but at a certain point prof x and magneto fall out. Our famous 5 side with Xavier, and the rest go with Magneto.

Why do they insist on calling this an origins movie, if it doesn't seemed based on the original squad. Why can't we just see, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel and Iceman. Come on people! Get one superhero movie right!!!

I guess that's understandable. While some actors look young for their age, this guy certainly doesn't.I'm guessing they compared him to the other actors who were screentesting for other roles, and he probably looked way older than them.Like Garfield, there is no way this guy looks like a teenager.

Yeah, this is pretty much the typical sort of idiotic move you'd expect a studio like Fox to make! Although I know pretty much nothing about the guy, I thought he was a decent choice for Beast and could have easily pulled off a teenager. I guess it just depends on how young they want the characters to be - are they going for 13/14/15 or 17/18/19? Personally, I'd prefer the latter! :P

Chris is right - assuming this is a prequel, Hank should be older in this continuity... And looking at the guy I'd guess he was in his early 20s.

I'm really confused.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa, hold on a second. Too old......compared to McAvoy and Fassbender??? Does that mean that McAvoy and Fass are playing the final versions of Xavier and Mags? Oh jeez...

Shouldn't Magneto be 15 or 20 years older than Prof. X? I've always had the impression that Magneto was older. 1 or 2 years apart seems too close. Unless the movie plans not to make Magneto as a young boy during WWII.

I have a buddy that works for fox and this crap happens its because the head of Fox has veto power over every creative decision made. Hey Fox!!! i have an idea for you, why don't you let the artists do the creative things and the suits deal with the money. they are a bunch of morons over there and ruin everything cause they wont let the artists they hire do their jobs without breathing down their necks.

idiots. actor's ages should completely be hidden. if he looks young and can play young, age shouldn't be an issue.

tazmaniak - 7/2/2010, 3:37 PM
@Hamm3rtym3, yes, the actor was older, but that's not to say the character was.He could have been any age. This is a fantasy world, he could be a secretary at any age.He was Secretary of Mutant Affairs.I'm sure the fact that he's a mutant and is very intelligent helped him get the position.

WTF would it even matter if he looks older if he is in fact older than the rest of the characters? If they're even worried about him looking older isn't it irrelevant since he's going to be completely covered in blue makeup at some point anyways??? BOYCOTT!!!
