Once again, our friends over at Newsarama have provided us with all the latest up to date information directly from the San Diego Comic Con! Here are all the details from the press-only Green Lantern conference that wrapped up literally only a few minutes ago!
Director Martin Campbell..."the way the ring works, through willpower, the stronger the will the stronger the power...i think the story is very simple."
Campbell says its a very straightforward story to translate to the screen.
Reynolds is asked if there were any specific GL comics that informed his role as Hal Jordan. "I read a few different ones."
Because this is an origin story, Reynolds said he focused on Secret Origins a little bit. He said Geoff Johns described it best by comparing it to a Star Wars-type story.
Hal is "kind of arrogant and cocky. This power sets him off on a...different path."
He said filming in New Orleans has made the motion capture suit a bit of a challenge. "It's pretty much the closest place to the sun on Earth," he joked.
Reynolds said the training he endured was more functional than anything. He also joked that since it's a Martin Campbell film, you're bound to get injured and land in the hospital once or twice. "It's been fun to train ..."
Lively - "I just spent many days with Ryan. That was my training," she joked. She also says they didnt' want to pin the story down in a specific era, so her fashion sense is very 'classic' in terms of the dresses she wears.
Peter Saarsgard talks about playing Hector Hammond. "There's a fine line between science and wishful thinkiing. I've thought about the guys who have stretched our thinking ...guys like Carl Saagan.."
Reynolds says he doesn't really differentiate between Marvel and DC...
Reynolds said the effects house charged with creating the GL mask didn't know who was going to be wearing it, but that they arbitrarily used his features to build the prototype. So when he was fitted for it, it fit a little better he said, "...than it would have fit Regis Philbin."
About the space opera and alien aspects of the film, and whether they've done any voice casting for Kilowogg and other alien characters...
Campbell says they have several ideas, but that he can't discuss it because it's too early in the production process to start casting the voices.
Mark Strong says Sinestro is "an incredibly organized and fearless component of the Green Lantern Corps." He basically guides Hal Jordan through the training process.
Strong says coming off KICK-ASS, where he fought a 12-year-old girl, he is enjoying this much more because he gets to face off with a grown man.
Strong says he and Reynolds have several one-on-one confrontations in the film. "Sinestro tests him because he does not believe a human can handle the Corps," he said.
He talked specifically about a sequence where Sinestro and Kilowogg put Jordan through a very rigorous test early on, which leads to a faceoff between Sinestro and Jordan.
Bruno, Campbell said being strictly faithful to specific comic storylines isn't something he's focusing on.
Reynolds' answer regarding playing Deadpool and now GL was very diplomatic. If he has a preference for one character or the other, he wasn't saying it today.
