Emily Blunt To Play The Villain In Iron Man 3?

Apparently, the actress is Marvel Studios top choice for the villain in the next Iron Man movie while it's also reported here that Gwyneth Paltrow will not appear in The Avengers...

According to British newspaper The Daily Mail (a far more respectable publication than something like The Sun!) their "inside sources" have told them that producers are, "...hoping to land British star Emily Blunt to play the villain in the next Iron Man instalment."

You might remember that Blunt was up for the role of Black Widow before Scarlett Johansson but had to drop out due to other commitments. That and the fact she worked with Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston on The Wolfman makes it easy to believe she may still have a good relationship with Marvel Studios.

"They are desperate to have Emily as the villain in the next Iron Man film and will continue to have Gwyneth playing Pepper, though she won’t feature in The Avengers."

What do you guys think about this information? The paper also talk about Scarlett being in The Avengers as if it's new news (showing their lack of comic book movie knowledge I suppose). Could it be possible that she's actually the villain in that movie instead? I think that Emily would make a great Madame Masque!

Mandarin should most definitely be the main villain in Iron Man 3 but I'd love to see a character like Madame Masque as well and a great/sexy actress like Emily Blunt would be perfect for that role IMO! Whoever the villain is, they really need to cut back on the amount of characters because that's what caused Iron Man 2 to fail in places. And please, no more of those stupid Tony/Pepper scenes!!! The whole mumbling improv stuff is just boring.

Considering other movies that have had multiple villians, she could be in it with The Mandarin. Open up with her and head into the main villain storyline.

That's cool and all, but who the hell could the villian possibly be?

Crimson Cowl? That would make sense since her father was in the last movie, but she's not really a very interesting character

Madame Masque? There's a classic one, but again a bit boring unless she is using the Maggia's silver Dreadnought which would be a good battle.

It would be really interesting to see which character they will give her...M happy that they are putting in the movie...But only if they dont cut down mandrain for her...now that would be bs :/

I thought Paltrwo was contracted to appear in Avengers? I'm not sure if I believe this, but I guess it would make sense to exclude Pepper unless she played some sort of pivotal role. I mean Paltrow has to command a fairly hefty asking price at this point, and there's no need to waste money on a minor character when you already have to worry about 5 or 6 others.

perhaps they're going with a different villain in IM3 coz the Mandarin will be used in The Avengers, or Avengers 2?

Just a thought, he has been set up in the first 2 as the man with his fingers in every pie. maybe he'll be mentioned in Thor or Cap, and will lead to a bigger role in the Team up Movie...

just guessing:) im probably totally wrong, but if they have been setting mandarin up as the man behind everything i dont see why they'd just have him as a back character. unless maybe theyre just keeping him for IM4. Either way, i think he's gonna be involved in a big way somehow

Ok so let me get this straight? She turns down Iron Man 2 cause she decided to do Gullivers Travels instead, hhmm what a great decision that was. She turned down Peggy Carter cause in her words "She didnt want to be committed to too many films" when in Actuality she turned it down cause her husband John Krasinski was not chosen as Cap (Thanks to all the fans rants on that imagine if that happened yall) but I assure you she would have done it if he was Cap.

Now Marvel wants her for Iron man 3 as the villian? The movie is going to be out in 2013 at the earliest so I doubt A) she will commit to it that early and B) she will turn it down again, shes turned Marvel down twice, why keep going after her.

I didnt say this, but I can tell you Peter Rallis (Movie Buzz) doesnt think shes attractive at all.

Horrible idea for two reasons.
Firstly, the villain in Iron Man 3 should be the Mandarin.
Secondly, Emily Blunt should play the Wasp in The Avengers.

By the way, for American readers who might not know this, The Daily Mail is still a tabloid. It's more respectable than the likes of The Sun, but not by much.

how about madame hydra/viper,it would work if marvel studios done a crossover movie featuring iron man & captain america team up against hydra lead by baron von strucker & madame hydra/viper.

I have a feeling that they're going to do IM3/4 as a two parter. They'll introduce Mandarin in 3, but have Stark square off against someone else and have the Mandarin face off in 4.

Either that or IM3 will be nothing to do with him eccept for some 10 rings references and start a new trilogy with the Mandarin center stage, sending some of his minnions, The Living Laser, The Enchantress, The Executioner etc. after Stark untill ultimatley the 2 of them face off in the last one.

Just a thought.

I think Favreau will do Mandarin, but also Madame Masque. What is the problem with this? He just did Whiplash/Crimson Dynamo and Hammer. The only diference is that will see two true characters and maybe Ultimo [unlikely, but possible]. Or he will make Count Nefaria nd Maggia.

She would be great for Madame Masque! Have he as an associate to the Mandarin. She's a spy for the Mandarin, she gets in bed with Tony, she starts to fall for him, she gets outed, horrible accident, she gets a mask, blah, blah, blah, 2013 super hero movie of the year.

Blunt wouldnt be a bad Masque, but Mandarin is the villain of the third! Bruno Horgan aka The Melter would be a great villain too, but i think that he would be too similar with Ivan Vanko, Justin Hammer and Obadiah Stane! Hammer should be come back in the third one too! This time as more menacing character!

THANOS as the main villain in The Avengers! My other choices are The Skrulls, Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil, Hydra, A.I.M or Loki

deadpool72: Thanks bud! :) I like the sound of that but I honestly have no idea how they'll have the heroes all interact after they get together in The Avengers... Will they cameo in each others movies, have full blown roles or all be based in the same place!? (Avengers Mansion for example) I'm not sure, but linking them together as you've described would be very cool and make perfect sense!

Intruder: Having Iron Man take on Fin Fang Foom in the middle of NY, or anywhere else for that matter, would be truly epic. It's about time they give the character a villain to face that's not just another guy in a suit and after The Avengers where he'll meet Thor both Tony (and the audience) will find a character like FFF far more believable, making it the perfect time to introduce him!
