Will Batman Make an Appearance in the Superman Movie?

In an interview with a British newspaper, the director talks more about getting the job, working with Chris Nolan, Batman vs. Superman, it's association to past movies and the rumoured $175 million budget...

Here are the main excerpts from The Daily Telegraph interview which was posted online earlier today. For the whole thing, where the director talks more about his new movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, be sure to follow the link at the bottom of this page.

You’re directing the next Superman movie: that’s quite a gig. How do you feel about taking on the superhero that everyone loves?

It’s very exciting. Do I feel responsible? Look, as a fan, I want to make it awesome, so in that way I feel responsible. There’s an amazing film in there to be had, and I’m excited to get at it.

You’re working with Christopher Nolan, director of the last two Batman films. Is there a conflict of interest there? Batman v Superman?

He is a generous and amazing talent and as a producer super-supportive even in just the few weeks we’ve been talking about it.

What can you say about it at this stage?

Nothing. It’s very early in the process and it’s going to be famously guarded. So there’s very little to be said other than I’m a huge fan and I’m excited to get started on this.

It’s going to be a reboot of the franchise...

In the sense that it doesn’t really owe anything to what’s happened before cinematically.

And apparently you’re getting $175 million to play with...

I have no idea. Nobody has said anything to me about that, but I’ll quote that at them. It’s a good place to start in the negotiations.

What's most interesting about this interview is the fact that Snyder says, "we’ve been talking about it" when asked about Superman vs. Batman. Is he talking specifically about the two teaming up on the big screen or just about The Man of Steel in general? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Justinishulk- What are you smoking, Jon Hamm looks EXACTLY like Alex Ross's Superman. In fact, i dare you to find me a better AR Supes look-a-like of HIS age. As for a mature Jim Lee Superman, the go to guy would be Jim Caviezel. The question is, are they fit to play Snyder's Superman? Until we hear more about how old he wants Supes in it, no one knows. But both of them DO look like the character has looked in passed comics.

Shaman: Don't be silly man. We both know that later today Millar will tweet all the information Snyder didn't think he should reveal in this interview. All the information Snyder personally confided in him because he is an insider and knows how to keep his mouth shut. ;P

$175 million, you could make a shit hot movie for that kind of money.

the more the better though, get weta to do the special effects.

this snyder's vision,so don't let nolan interfere to much.

have a decent foe, keep it well away from the "smallville" & "birthright" universe.

john byrne classic man of steel comic would be pefect.

you may get a batman superman team-up movie, but i'd rather see a "vs" movie.

i'm looking forward to this big time.

I don't think we will see a Superman VS Batman anytime soon. Warner's wanted to run with that idea before Nolan picked up the bat mantel and nailed it. Warner's will get Supes up off the ground like Batman already is and then hopefully by then, with GL coming soon and The Flash in the works we will get word on a JLA movie!

Good find Josh!!

DDD - 10/21/2010, 7:51 AM
Caviezel can't be Jesus again, he died I think,
at the end of the movie! LOL

I think Jim has just gotten too old to play the
Man Of Steel. I don't think they are looking for
THAT old!

But this is great news cuz Snyder said he is a
fan and that means he loves the material! He will
treat it with respect! Unlike a certain guy who's
name starts with Sin...!
Shaman
Shaman - 10/21/2010, 7:52 AM
Snyder doesn't really hint at Superman Vs. Batman. "IT" could mean HIS Superman film which Nolan IS producing. The feature article's headline is definitely misleading. There's nothing about a World's Finest or VS. film in this interview, what so ever.

DDD- Didn't he resurrect? Or did they leave that part out...

jman1977- Actually, Batman Begins came out 2 years BEFORE I am Legend, which is where WB hinted at a World's Finest film on a billboard in NY.

MarkCassidy - 10/21/2010, 7:54 AM
Ok, seriously now, he meant Batman vs Superman as a conflict of interest and Snyder clearly meant "since they have been talking" about the Superman movie!

TheGambitFreak - 10/21/2010, 7:57 AM
Nolan's Batman wouldn't fit well at all with other superheroes, but Nolan could make a different universe, and have every fanboy Nerdgasm while hearing the casting rumors on CBM.com because this site is AWESOME!!!!

Superman vs Batman

Good find @jman!

I wish they had made this movie a long time ago
then Caviezel would have been younger and right
for this!

I think they said they were looking for mid-30's
but that might just be a rumor!
TheGambitFreak
TheGambitFreak - 10/21/2010, 8:00 AM
And for a little older, like 40's they could go with John Hamm and Val Kilmer.

Shaman@ that is the story and then he was taken up
in a cloud to heaven. So he ain't on earth as far as I've heard! LOL

I really don't know what went on in the movie cuz
I've never seen it!

Val Kilmer! Are you kidding Gambitfreak@!

He's a blimp now! LOL

I mean i wish it were true but i think Snyder was just "talking about" working on the Superman stuff so far with Nolan. Doubt it was anything like a crossover talk but i hope im wrong.

Plus didnt Nolan already say he wants to keep the universes separate ? I think he did. Again i hope im wrong.
Shaman
Shaman - 10/21/2010, 8:08 AM
gambitfreak- Personally speaking, nothing's impossible. People might think it is until it actually happens. Which means that Clark COULD not have decided to put the tights on BEFORE Bruce did. 10 seasons is a long ass time LOL. So what if in the new Nolanverse, Bats wears the tights first? Hell, they could make it seem like they did it at the same time by newspaper references. Coincidences do happen in our really real realistically realler universe than Nolan's over realistic comic book film universe.

DDD- HOLY SHIT!!! You're telling me Galactus ate JESUS?!?!?!?!

Jon Hamm is not 40 yet, he's 39,
born in March of 1971. But
he doesn't look that old, he does
look like a manly-man and I'm all for
that!

Yep, Shaman@ Hamm surely does look
like the Ross Supes!

yeah, I agree with Ror, Josh you are reading too much into it, he is talking about the Superman reboot only

But I would love a Superman and Batman movie. Maybe do that movie first, then develop a Justice League movie from that

Great Josh!
I'll look forward to hear more revealing and concrete details about this Reboot.

Zack Snyder has shown his skills adapting CB properties to the big screen and the expertise he got doing wachmen set high hopes for this project. No doubt it would be a hit and adding Nolan as a producer just assure us the quality of the final product.

It would be EPIC if DC/WB make a Batman/Superman Team-up before JLA. I can die after that movie.

Love how this site is making nothing into something and calling it news. I'm not going to slander the site, but there is nothing in this article that implied a Superman/Batman movie. Yet, it's the main feature on the front page? Sorry if I sound like a dick, but this isn't news.
