Sally Field To Star Alongside Martin Sheen As Aunt May In Spider-Man?

The same site who broke the news that Martin Sheen will play Uncle Ben, are now claiming that the Brothers & Sisters actress is in talks for the role of Aunt May...

Previously portrayed by Rosemary Harris in the past three Sam Raimi helmed Spider-Man movies, it seems that Marc Webb is taking things in a slightly different direction by casting the younger actress (by twenty years) best known for her role in Forest Gump and more recently in ABC's Brothers & Sisters. Here's what the site had to say:

"Sally Field as Aunt May?"

"The actress is in early talks to play Peter Parker’s beloved aunt in the new Spider-Man movie, which Marc Webb is directing for Columbia."

What do you think about this? Is she a good choice to star alongside Martin Sheen? And does the fact that they've gone for a younger actress hint at things being a little more "Ultimate" in the upcoming reboot? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

No one draws a better Peter Parker than Steve McNiven...except maybe for John Romita Jr and Marcos Martin. :) This sounds like a great addition to the cast, although I dont think I've seen her in anything other than Forest Gump.

I'm with SuperSpiderMan5778. I approve of this casting choice too.

Now all we need is Richard Dean Anderson as J. Jonah Jameson, and boom, maybe the Tobey Maguire "Spider-Man" films can rest in piece. I won't forget about them, though.

That's it, not going to this movie.

Are you guys kidding me? Have any of you even seen her act? All she does is overact and it's horrible, not to mention she's not old enough. Do yourselves a favor, watch brothers and sisters and then tell me this is a good choice.

This was one of the greatest Aunt May moments ever IMO. Damn that "Brand New Day" for undoing it...it's nearly as bad as Norman Osborn/Black Cat/Daredevil no longer remembering!

This whole movie is not just a slap in the face to Spiderman, but the Actors who played their respective roles, including Rosemary Harris who was absolutely perfect. No ONE can replace her!

I think that this is the worst casting for the entire film, so far. It's so sad because it followed the best casting for it, so far.

These casting rumours are sounding a little like B.S. to me. Who knows, they could actually work though considering how most complained about Ledger being Joker, and he turned in the performance of a lifetime.

@ Josh
LOVED that scene in ASM when Aunt May finally found out and they delt with it. I still wish they had continued that route than the BND way.

Steve McNiven should have been drawing the last few years non stop on ASM, other than him IMO, is Deodato.

I haven't really seen any of her work but if she is as great an actress as she's being made out to be then she would be a welcome addition for me. I don't mind her being a bit younger though, it definately shows that there might be some traces of 'Ultimate' influence here which is fine by me so long as the overall film and cast are splendid.

boy, not sure about this one. Sheen I could kind of see. All of the side character chosen for the originals were so spot on. Its the main characters that had some problems.

At least we know Aunt May won't suffer from Osteoporosis lol.
Nah she is a wonderful actress. This will be amazing,
if she does even half as good as she did in Forrest Gump.

@ddrt Obviously you have never seen Smokey and the Bandit, it's pure film genius lol..JK

Sheen is fine.
But Sally Field?
She's way too young and waaaaay too hot for Aunt May!

Hell no! You don't want some MILF for Aunt May!
It will ruin everything!
It's Aunt May, for GOD's sake!
You want to love and care for Aunt May!
You don't want to frick Aunt May!
Sally Field I want to frick!

This is the worst choice I hear so far.
Hope it's not true.
Shit rumor!

Thanks for bringing that up (along with my blood pressure) anyway, Josh! LOL!

She's 64 years old and a little makeup she will look plenty old enough. Doesn't quite strike me as Aunt May though. Doesn't matter much to me. Rental at best for me.

Cool with me. One of my problems with Raimi's trilogy was his cast for Ben and May.

They were great actors but too old IMO. With all do respect to Rosemary Harris, she was about 73 (give or take a year) when the first Spider-Man started filming and she looked like she was constantly knocking on death's door through out the trilogy. Robertson was about 77 at the time. I liked that the Ultimate versions were a bit younger and I think Sally Field and Martin Sheen could be perfect for that depiction.

I remember her mainly as The Flying Nun and Sybil. I actually met her when I was a kid . She was dating Dennis Allen from Laugh-In at the time. My brother, sister, and I went out with them to an amusement park thing in Phx. I remember her as being very nice.
