Alan Ritchson Claims That An Aquaman Movie Is In The Works!

He's not sure whether or not he'll be cast as the aquatic superhero, but the Smallville star believes that there is a movie on the way and also discusses the chances of a TV show starring him as the character...

On The Chances Of Playing Aquaman Again On The Small Screen Outside Of Smallville:

"Oh yeah, I would like that for sure. But I don't think a TV show is a reality, to be honest. Not that I wouldn't like to see that story told. Like I said earlier, Aquaman's basically the Superman of the Seas and there's a really cool story behind that. I think it would be fun to tell it, but it's just so hard to tell a story involving water. And it's expensive. In today's day and age, people aren't looking to spend a lot of money on a TV show. Maybe someday they'll find a way, technically, to do it in a fiscally sound manner."

On The Possibility Of A Movie Adaptation And Whether He'd Be In It:

"But a movie, on the other hand, I think is very much a reality. In fact, I think there's one in the works. Some people in LA are starting to get the ball rolling on that. I don't know what my involvement would ever be in that, but, yeah, I think it would be cool to see that happen. But it's just so expensive to do. It's hard to say if it's really going to happen."

On The Future Of The Character In Smallville And A Return Of The Justic League:

"I had a great time working with Elena, I had a great time on the show in general and I like the direction that it's going. It's moving forward and growing up and you're seeing all these great storylines from the past, starting to tie up all these loose ends. It's fun to watch and it's fun to be part of. I would personally like to see the Justice League assemble, so I'd like to be a part of that too. But officially, I haven't received anything on paper yet, so I guess we'll have to wait and see."

I'd rather see a Wonder Twins reboot than Aquaman. He's so lame.

I've never understood all the hate for Aquaman. He may be lame sometimes, but that's gotta be the writer's fault, as the character has tons of potential for great stories.

ps smallville blows.

Give Aquaman a chance. A live action version would be very interesting. I think it has the potential to be a great film if Warner/DC write a great script and treat the character with respect. Aquaman is a famous character. He's just as important to the DCU as the big three in my opinion. Give him a chance... if done right this could be epic.

@Bryanferryfan

your actually right.. As much as I hate the character, I could see the movie being good. And I would actually love to see Atlantis on the big screen

He can talk to fish, he has heightened swimming prowess, and he can be defeated by drying out. He sounds like a superhero that would team up with The Tick.

Namor deserves a movie far more than this boring, crappy character. He is the joke of the comic book community for God's sake! I mean, I'm not opposed to a movie or anything, the more the merrier, but I just think others are more deserving.

Namley, I'd much rather see a Namor film, so hopefully Marvel hurries up before DC makes Aquaman.

Aquaman is more of a "GRoup Vharacter"
But he's not that lame.
He can swim faster than the speed of sound.
He's a telepathic able to control fish and
even disupt the human mind.
He's bullet proof. Immune to intense heat and cold
Can lift over 100 tons.
See in total darkness.

and with the Trident he can literally control water..all water even in your body.

so He's actually stronger than Namor

I don't know which character i hate most in the entire history of comic books, Aquaman or Plastic man. At least with Plastic man it could be a really funny film but with Aquaman... URGH!!! I'd re-rent the little mermaid on TAPE for the 137th time before i'd pay a dime to see Aquaman headline in ANYTHING! No matter what his stats say, character wise Namor owns Aquaman's ass. Jackson Hyde however, is a step in the right direction IMHO. Have Aquaman swim into raw sewage and die from the stench and replace him with Aqualad FOREVER ;)

Intruder- Is it just me or would Ryan Reynolds be a perfect Plastic Man??? He's lengthy and a clown, what more would you need? ;P
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 11/18/2010, 8:28 AM
I'd rather see a Namor movie over an Aquaman movie any day of the week.

@Geeksiah

Where are you getting those stats. I've never heard of Aquaman having the ability to lift over 100 tons.

Hold on people! Thad from Blue Mountain State is Aquaman? WTF!? In reality he isnt as terrible of a choice as Tom Welling as Clark.
Aquaman deserves a movie. Aquaman isnt as everybody thinks. He is even willing to kill which would make him a kinda bad ass for flying South by Southwest.
I'd see a Aquaman movie but I dont know about "Thad".

The possibilites to introduce a dark Aquaman character, like Curry was after his son is murdered by Black Manta would be great. I think Aquaman could potentially be a really good film with it shares of adventure and amazing beings.
I'd watch Aq's.

Shaman
Shaman - 11/18/2010, 8:48 AM
Angelus- Sorry bud, but after all those years of comics and shows, nothing he could kill could make him appealing in any way, shape or form. But nice try ;)

Namor stepping on a cockroach would be more entertaining than even a "death filled" Aquaman film.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 11/18/2010, 8:57 AM
In the right hands, Aquaman has the potential to be a visually stunning movie. The problem is, is he's so [frick]ing lame that nobody (myself included) would want to go and see it! :P I'll take a Namor solo movie anyday thanks very much.

i dont think aquaman is a lame character. i just dont think he can have a movie without the rest of the justice league. although, i think that if they did do a justice league, aquaman could have some of the coolest and most important parts.

with that said, i hope they dont do a justice league movie. i think its too hard to do group superhero films because everybody has their favorite and everyone wants their favorite to be the focal point of the story. thats why i dont think the avengers will work. people are gonna want more hulk, some more tony, some more cap. hard to please everyone in two hours.

so, as cool as it would be to see a big budgest aquaman, i hope it never happens.

i like aquaman, but don't bother with a single movie just make a justice league film.

as for alan ritchson playing aquaman on the big screen, you've got no chance of that.

its like saying tom welling is gonna play superman on the big screen.

we've got cbmer's on here saying, ryan reynolds is the wrong for the green lantern just imagine what they would say if them two got the roles of aquaman & superman.

tom "mannequinn of steel" welling + alan "acting ability of a dead fish" ritchson = epic fail.

showing the world he's truly dead. I'd
see it then. Maybe twice!

You guys call Aquaman creepy then say you'd rather have a Namor movie? He wears a speedo 24-[frick]ing-7. Not to mention he's the biggest, most uninteresting dick in the world. And he can fly. Who gives a shit? In what way does that make him a better king of the sea?

And you guys are only referencing Super Friends and comics from the Super Friends era. News flash, everyone was ridiculous and lame during that era. Batman could breathe in space and Captain Cold froze and stole banks. Maybe you guys should stop following public perception and open a comic book? Because based on public perception Lil' Wayne is talented. We all know that's a dirty lie.

Yeah I officially see this is a site full of marvel fanboys. It seems everything that is Dc related is lame unless its Batman. It clear alot of you do not no much about Dc characters and to say Aquaman is gay and namor is cool is just stupid. Yes namor came out first but they are almost the same character except Aqua man can control sea creatures. Namor outfit is gay too. He swims around in a speedo with pixy wings on his feet but yet he is cool lol you people are hypocrites. Just like ya'll say superman is lame and to powerful and unrelated what about wolverine he is just as powerful him and the hulk you cannot kill them. Hell wolverine is fighting in the underworld right now. Hulk a couple of years ago pulled a Goku and started blowing up planets. Then you have a character that got pumped up off super soldier serum(steroids) that throws a Frisbee Woohoo! Im sorry but people cannot talk crap about any hero being stupid unless the writing just sucks because if not for the writer all superheroes would be lame lol

@RoscoeFolgers Namor doesn't wear Speedo anymore. Oh he's interesting alright - so interesting that Black Adam and even Peter David Aquaman copied his personality straight out.

Namor used to be unique, until every superheroes like Wolverine and Batman stole his grumpy direct stuff.

RoscoeFolgers
RoscoeFolgers - 11/18/2010, 9:50 AM
Yeah, calling people numb-nuts and justifying a character's badassness based on who he's boned and what groups he's involved in... I'm gonna stop talking to you, you clearly have different ideas of what constitutes a good character. I'd prefer a compelling character with interesting stories whereas you open a book and say "HE'S COOL!" and list the accolades writers gave him.

I made up a character called SkullGlutton. He can fly, swim, and make trees out of fire. He's a member of The Avengers, Justice League, and the Inglourious Basterds. His signature move is flying into the air and punching God in the dick and tying it into a bow and making him smite an opponent. His second signature move is sex with women who have big boobs. Oh, and he's an ass to everybody and never smiles. Best character ever, RIGHT!?!?
JohnTom88
JohnTom88 - 11/18/2010, 9:55 AM
@dadarknight I'm sorry there are obviously more DC fans than Marvel in this site or any movie site simply because DC characters are more known than Marvel characters. Just check on whose characters are made into avatars more. But that besides the point. Aquaman is almost the flag standard of superhero incredulity because of his marine animals connection. Namor wing feet is not that ridiculed because Namor is simply less known to the mainstream.

I think it Aquaman would make a better movie than a TV series, there may be a significant number of guys to play the lead....I dont mind if Ritchson is the man, Atlantis would look great on the silver screen.

RoscoeFolgers- I haven't even seen the shows and books of that era. I put him down because he single handedly made "JLA" simply an "okay" book. After a while i just stopped subscribing to it because of him. And i second Intruder's comment. Namor is definitely the Vegita of comic books. Aquaman is more like the vagina of comic books and it's not cause i mostly like marvel characters. For my money it doesn't get any better than the Justice League without Martian Manhunter and Aquaman. The top 5 leaguers make the entire roster of Avengers look like panzies INHO, but that's just me. But i gotta give credit where credit is due and Marvel have developped way better second tier heroes such as Namor. And i think Jackson hyde has the makings of becoming DC's next rising star! But Aquaman is beyond fixing in my book.

dadarkknight- You're talking powers and costumes but i'm talking personalities as characters. Aquaman lacks ther IMO.

I am a DC fan. I believe theres just some golden
age characters that dont lose their cheese factor.
Aquaman, is one. And for marvel its hulk. In my
opinion. I dont think aquaman could carry his own
tv series or movies. Hes best for short cameos, if
that. Personally I dont want him anywhere near my
Justice League movie. When or if that ever happens!
Whats Vegita BTW!

Ok, quit hating on Aquaman. There is too much potential for the character to be ignored. Besides the TV show has already been done. Does anybody remember Patrick Duffy in "The Man from Atlantis"? Basically, Aquaman without having to fight with DC for the rights to the name.

RoscoeFolgers - 11/18/2010, 10:45 AM
He's not even in the Justice League anymore... Let's kill a character other people enjoy so someone new can have a spot he doesn't even occupy!
