Costume and special effects designer Steve Johnson (who recently unveiled photos of Tim Burton's strange looking Superman suit) has now posted costume art from Superman Returns and J.J. Abrams-scripted Superman Fly-By. What's most interesting though, isnt the revamped Superman suit, but the fact that Bryan Singer was considering using Doomsday either in his 2006 movie, or in a possible sequel!









I'm not sure what to think about that new look for Kal-El (what's wrong with the classic costume!?) but I'm pretty sure that Superman Returns would have been a much better movie had we seen the DC superhero take on Doomsday rather than the, ahem, "property mogul" Lex Luthor! I know many want to see Doomsday in a Superman movie but aside from a good fight which other Superman villains can provide there really is nothing to him other then a fight and destruction. If they want an enemy who Superman has to think his way out of and push him to his limits then use Solaris from All Star Superman.

DOOMSDAY is just pointy Hulk. Boring. He doesn't even speak, he's an unoriginal, uninspired, one-dimensional character.

I know we want more spectacle but that should come with some intrigue. Look at movies like Transformers 2, the second and third Matrixes, Spider-Man 3, Batman and Robin, The Spirit, GI-Joe; they were ALL spectacle and no substance. They just threw a lot of CGI and explosions and quick cuts and fighting at the camera and they BORED us out of our seats.

Ideally there should be a nice blend of spectacle and substance, like Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Iron Man, 300, Sin City, Spider-Man 2, and pretty much every good CBM.

Great find Josh! I must say I like how they attempted to connect the cape with the logo. I hope Doomsday won't be anything like the Abomination, if he were to appear in the upcoming Supes movie.

there both great concept art and i prefer the classic suit if they want something new then they should go with the earth one suit its NOT a big difference but its still different from the other costumes that have been used in the movies

DCMF: Thanks bud! :) You know, I'd not really thought about the Abomination/Doomsday similarities until you mentioned that...it could be tricky for them to get around that! As cool as it would be to see him though, I'd quite like to see a villain with brains and brawn which is why Brainiac, Zod and Darkseid remain my top choices. (despite the fact I've never actually read a single comic featuring any of them depsite recently getting into DC!)

I cant say I like any of the above designs though. Doomsday looks unthreatening and a little dull, while the Superman suit is cool, but unnecessary! In my opinion, Superman is very much like Spider-Man in the respect that some changes might need to be made so that it fits into the real world, but the design itself shouldnt (and doesnt need to be) changed!

Doomsday is just the DC equivalent of Omega Red. A villain that people introduced to comics in the 90s like, but everyone else thinks is f*cking stupid as bloody Hell.

Superman sure looks alien with that suit. I like it but the "don't change it!!" part of me is still unsure. Definitely different.

@JoshW Just getting into DC, were alike...Haha. It is a bit unnecessary, but looking at the original Superman films, I compared it the Green Lantern, and how they had the hero's symbol implanted on every member of planet Oa & Krypton.

And if Snyder were to go in that direction, I'd like to see something unique like that with the symbol. But It could use some improvement.

I like the Doomsday designs, I dislike the lack of yellow and trunks in the Supes costumes though. I think they should bring in Doomsday for a third Superman movie with this MOS reboot business.

that's why i was against the reboot. ok, returns dissapointed many (i [frick]ing love it. it got me back into superman), but singer had stated that brainiac and others were considered for the sequel. if it wasn't for the reboot, now we would already have the sequel...

DCMF: Hmm...interesting points I must say! I've found it easier than expected to get into DC. I still get baffled by a lot of what I read (simply because I have little to no knowledge of events/characters that are referred to, etc) but for the most part, they seem to produce some great comics. Nowhere near as good as Marvel though I'm afraid! Say, have you read Amazing Spider-Man: Coming Home yet? If not, do it!!! :P Mark Millar's 12 issue run on Marvel Knights Spider-Man is another title I'd strongly advise buying.

The only thing I could see the second costume for is a Kingdom Come movie.

But the only doomsday concept that I could see not looking like complete Sh*t, is the third picture. Or the far right. All of the other faces look too nice.

Just borrow Dean Cain's Superman suit. That was the best looking one. I seem to recall, when Lex Luthor asked Superman in L&C where he got that ridiculous outfit, Superman replied, "My mom made it!"

The costume concepts look more kryptonian Especially with the 'S'. Its kinda iffy... My well being doesn't sit well with changing the costume. Glad this didnt go through. Even though its cool.

I don't like any of it. I liked the "Returns" suite. Just needs a bigger "S" and on the chest, darker blue, and a yellow "S" on the cape, that's about all. IMO.

Doomsday doesnt look bad.

the suits look awful, but i expect nothing less from Abrams.
