COMICS: X-Men To Take On "First Class" Counterparts In May!

A teaser image released by Marvel comics shows the current team of X-Men taking on their 1960's younger selves this coming May! Hit the jump to check it out...

As you can see, the image shows the current incarnation of the mutant team facing off against the original lineup - Angel, Iceman, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Beast - dressed in their classic uniforms. X-Men founder Professor X watches the two teams confront each other.

The project will launch in May 2011. No further information has been revealed. Seems like a clever way of bringing back the original X-Men to tie in with the movie, despite the fact that the only member of the original five pictured above who will be in X-Men: First Class is Beast! Be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

Well spotted SpiderManFan1995! I'm guessing that's where they got the inspiration for this teaser from. It'll be cool if they release a few more like it, based on more classic covers like that one.

Reminds me of Wolverine and the Xmen, doesn't anybody care about the show's cancellation?????

This is my first post on here (my name is James, hello everyone). I noticed that this little storyline, aside from being set up to promote first class (how convenient), is mentioned on that timeline thing Marvel had in one of their avenger's titles. Said something along the lines of "Yesterday's X-Men"...so now not only is it tied to first class, but also now Marvel's made us feel like we HAVE to get it to piece they're little timeline idea. (I miss that days of self contained story...my apologies for the paragraph! first and last time)

Kind of funny that they want to emphasize the First Class in this way when the film isn't even going to have the actual First Class in it. Adds more salt to the wound. Of course Wolverine wasn't part of the First Class, but still..
loganoneil

Not to nit-pick (but I will), but Iceman's 'younger self' originally looked more like Frosty the Snowman, so there's an inconsistancy there...
artofjaymz
artofjaymz - 12/30/2010, 9:29 AM
lol @ loganoneil....especially when they've drawn MODERN iceman with hulk hogang's haircut. Just look up at the picture, he has an ice-skullet!!

I'm with you on that one James (hello James) about the self contained story. Paul Dini is one of the few, if not the only, consistent one-shot writer...

I'm mainly thinking of spider-man (volume1) issue 14 or 15, where spidey and beast had a team up to fight a mutant that was in actuality a child, and it referenced a conversation him and MJ had about kids. It was a team up, a new menace, a moral tale, and it stirred up a hero on the personal level, which made for great characterization. It also highlighted how great and overlooked of a character Beast is. I remember there were a lot of good stories like that when I was younger. Everythings a damned (lackluster) blockbuster now.

@nuck82

man i used to think the same thing at first hating it and comparing it as being shitty to Xmen evolution,
But then i gave it a try and watched the episodes, next thing you know i ended up falling in love with the series; the new mutants, the actually story arc is amazing and it even featured episodes from the future with Wolverine and X23 and Magneto's Daughter. The First season was just amazing and i know it deserves a season 2.....So give it a try, watch it, believe me you would regret it. WOLVERINE AND THE XMEN is pretty good.

@nuck82 Plus to link it to this article they also featured an episode with the Xmen First Class

yeah i know right but there is a facebook group called "1 Million to save WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN", that is petitioning to bring the show back on the air. But i was thinking; since Disney has acquired Marvel, they should have enough finances to bring the show back on the air so what is the problem?

I'm pretty sure, if peeps don't know this already, that this is just a continuation of the current uncanny x-men story. A supervillian named Lobe gave some people a designer drug that gave them the mutant powers of the original x-men team. So that's who we're seeing on the right side of the image. It's not like it's gonna be an alternate reality or something like that.

@JoshW, I notice your comments always seem to be so positive. It's refreshing. Any way, new X-Men would rock old X-Men! You can't beat the wisdom and experience they would have gained. Especially since physical aging doesn't seem to be a factor much (@Landsdowne5).

wow not to be a dick but X-men evolution sucked even harder!! lol the only good x-men cartoon was the one from the early 90's!! the end!

i watched wolverin and the x-men a few times and it was ok but not good at all. it was so random
Freshkicks1212
Freshkicks1212 - 12/30/2010, 4:13 PM
@nuck82
Have you ever thought that; hmmmmm maybe it was because you watched the episodes at random!!!. in doing so not grasping the actually continuing story. the show is good dont be trashing it.
