Michael Giacchino Doing The Score For Captain America: The First Avenger?

Michael Giacchino Doing The Score For Captain America: The First Avenger?

It's been revealed on several different forums that the critically acclaimed composer of scores on everything from Lost to Call of Duty has been offered the job of doing the soundtrack for Captain America...

This story started off at the John Williams Fan Network forums, made its way on over to the Film Score message boards, and was eventually discovered by a few of the users over at SuperHeroHype. While it would be easy to pass it off as the typical nonsense you sometimes see in these sorts of places, the fact that it started off on a site dedicated to scores rather than a comic book related one, adds a little weight to it I think.

Giacchino appears to be the top contender to score Captain America. My brother's roommate works for Marvel, and he got tasked with the job of delivering the script to Giacchino's house. Upon delivery, he jokingly prodded and asked if he was going to do it. Giacchino said there's a good possibility, and that it might be done with Bruce Broughton along side.

Hence why I said Mark would be very pleased

UPDATE:

My brother further explained and said that scripts were delivered to both Giacchino and Broughton. And like I mentioned awhile back, Broughton was apparently Giacchino's mentor.

Michael Giacchino is best known for his work on movies for Disney like Up, Ratatouille and The Incredibles as well as for Paramount (who are distributing this movie remember) with films such as Star Trek, Cloverfield and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. His relationship with these studios makes it all the more likely that this rumour might just be true.

Captain America: The First Avenger is set to be released in 3D on July 22, 2011!

BEST news I have heard in a long time! The score to a movie can make or break it. The score to LOST was always top notch! The score to this movie is the most important score for any marvel movie yet.

This would be amazing. His work on the movies I've listed above (among many, many others) is fantastic, not to mention the epic music he did for Lost. I watched up on Blu-ray for the first time the other day, and the score for that film is nothing short of beautiful. Please God, let this be true!!!

OH MY GOD!!! PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE!!!!!

He was my TOP pick to be the composer for Captain America. His scores are INCREDIBLE!!

YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS SCORE BY MICHAEL GIACCHINO!! It's the main theme from the WWII air combat video game "Secret Weapons Over Normandy". It's nothing short of BEAUTIFUL!!

That's the kind of music I expect from The First Avenger!

OH BY THE MIGHTY GODS OF ASGARD, PLEASE LET THIS RUMOR BE TRUE!!

Seriously, i can not be more excited right, DAMN i hope this is true. Marvel has seriously missed the boats on the scores for their movies, and really the only thing that i believe they've missed the ball on. Go back and watch their movies, none of the music stands out like it does in other EPIC movies. Cap's the kind of movie that needs a strong score, because of the time period. PEARL HARBOR was a shit movie, but it had a great score. Giacchino is not only PERFECT for this, but IMO, the only option. Unless they could land hans zimmer, but he's a far 2nd in my mind. Giacchino's work on LOST alone gets my vote.

I'd love for this to be true... especially over the guy IMDB is listing for the film... (John Powell)

While he was on my list of probables the studio would go after, he's still not my favorite. His scores tend to sound all the same (like John Williams).

Haven't heard Broughton's name thrown around in awhile. Hopefully if Giacchino does land the job, Broughton or another composer (like James Horner) will co-author the score, like with Nolan's Batman films.

@Elayis

If you think his Up, Star Trek, and Incredibles soundtracks sound anything alike... you're [frick]ing tonedeaf.

Sweet. I don't have the greatest ear for movie scores, but Michael Giacchino's have stood out to me ever since his excellent James Bond homage for The Incredibles. Star Trek was a little over-bombastic, but then, so was the movie itself.

@MaxJaybo, he does tend to use the same cues and styles (like Williams does with his action music).

I mean, I couldn't get through Star Trek without thinking "this isn't supposed to be LOST or Star Wars! So why does it sound like it?!"

So yes, his scores do sound samey.

Giacchino is awesome, really one of the perfect candidates for this. I like his work in Medal of Honor especially. Hell, you could just take that and it would already be perfect for the movie. If he does indeed do the score for this, it'll be outstanding.
They've seemingly done everything right with this movie so far. So this is probably my most anticipated for 2011.

@SuspenseSmith I think it's already well known that Grif is one of the biggest idiots on this whole damn site. Nothing intelligent or useful to say. Just spending his time always trying to look clever when he's really just another goddamned moron that doesn't posess one original thought in that peanut he calls a brain. :/
