IGN have released more quotes from the latest quarterly publication of "D23: The Official Disney Fan Club", this time featuring Jeph Loeb talking about the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. While the title of the show provoked many fans who aren't all that keen on the comic book series of the same name, the recently leaked test footage seemingly changed a lot of peoples minds.

"We have an incredible writing staff including Brian Michael Bendis who has written every single issue of Ultimate Spider Man, more than 150 issues in 10 years, Paul Dini, and Man of Action."

"What we're doing is putting together the coolest Spider-Man animated series that we can. This is a first step in what we want to define as Marvel animation and will capture the look and feel of the comics as the movies have captured the look and feel of the comics."

"Like the comic and the upcoming movie, we're dealing with Peter Parker in high school, trying to balance his life between being a normal teenager and becoming the ultimate Spider-Man. This is the story of Spider-Man trying to become the best hero that he can. And work his way up to the major league guys like Captain American and Iron Man and The Avengers."

Marvel's head of television apparently wrapped up the interview with the promise of more great things to come next year ("2012 is when they're going to get to see this incredibly awesome stuff that we've been working on.") so perhaps we'll be getting news of those live action TV shows sooner rather than later! JK Simmons should have been in the Spidey reboot and can someone get Loeb to put Spider-Man in Avengers:EMH? At least the animated universe can be related.

I think it will be part of the A:EMH series because Iron Man is supposed to be voiced by the same actor.

Spectacular was the shit! i dont know why they wanted to leave that alone. Back to high school? naahh, they should just continue Spectacular where it left off and have Parker try and play with the guns.

Marvel will never truly capture the comics as long as they work with Disney and give us these lame kiddy tv shows and kiddy animated movies and as long as they work with FOX and douchebag directors to create these shyt ass movies. Hopefully Thor and Cap will bring them up a notch but as far as animations go, too damn childish. It's enjoyable and fun to watch but come on, Spiderman needs to grow up and Wolverine will always be a handicap character when he cant properly use and accurately show the effect of him using 12 inch steel blades on human flesh. Great job Marvel, keep it up. Theres a reason DC Animated Movies and tv shows continued to kick ur ass.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I agree with you 100% and I was thinking the exact same thing tonight here. Thinking about the "what if" networks like HBO did an animated series which truly capture what happens in the comics as it is, in a more mature tone.

I'm tired of watching wolverine only cutting robots and when it comes to a person (retract claws and punch *without showing the actually punch connecting* or throw them)

I hope that Marvel starts catching up to DC in the animated world. They've produced some of the finest superhero stuff out there!

I'll always have this nagging feeling about this show cos it got Spectacular Spider-man cancelled, i was more pissed off about this show's existence than the reboot.

Phlegmbot - 4/19/2011, 11:07 PM
@Frostbite: pretty sure the development of this didn't cause the cancellation of Spec Spidey. That show just couldn't find an audience on network TV nor on Disney's cable channel.

That said, I've said it before, aside from the missteps with Kraven the Hunter and electric-nippled Electro, it was by far THE best version of Spidey we've seen in animation.

@Phlegmbot-ummm u sir or madam have must of never seen the 90's spiderman show cuz THAT is the best of spidey anime!
Frostbite
Frostbite - 4/20/2011, 12:28 AM
@croniccris No way, I'm sorry if your a huge fan of it and I'm hating on a very nostalgic memory of your's, but Spider-man:TAS had some really lame episodes, and it was, for a lack of a better term, cartoony. TSSM had a ton of great villains and character arcs.

The truth is DC mainstays are more character driven than the Marvel ones so it's easier to write intricate storylines because there's a lot more material to work with.

I was bummed when Spectacular Spiderman got cancelled but this is starting to sounf good. Liking the idea of them workng in more of the Marvel/Ultimate Universe. One thing about Spectacular I missed was guest stars.

I'm not sold on what Loeb thinks is cool anymore, I used to love his work but now:

Ultimates 3 (Crap)

Ultimatum (Worse Crap)

New Ultimates(Ultimates 2 Rip off)

Feral Mutants descendant from Wolves (Huh?)

Red Hulk owning Thor, Galactus, Watcher (...}

ultimate X (blegh)
