@Fonzieismypal A Superman cameo would be a slight on the importance of Batman, in the same way Batman in a Superman movie would be.

Crossovers are gimmicks. End of story.

How would a Superman cameo compromise Batman's "importance"? You fail. Supes and the Bat have been the two most iconic superheroes for decades, and they have played an important role in each other's lives for just as long. How would seeing them interact be lame? An on-screen interaction between the two would be an amazing tribute to that element of the comic books... Which is what comic book movies should be all about imo... But we will never see that because Nolan is too concerned with his vision for Batman. If anyone's disrespecting the character/franchise it's Nolan.

WTF u on, Nolan never said he dont give a sh!t about comic book. the man made two good comic book movies and he saved Batman from been a joke.

because Marvel doing a crossover thing does not mean DC needs to do it also. Nolan is right for making his Batman been the only hero.

@UltimateSpiderman

I do agree on that one I think that his movies are the most detailed out of all. He does a great job and so do everyone of his actors. All in all it is what the CBM world needs. That and X-Men First Class.

valeriesghost - 6/5/2011, 4:05 PM
batman circa Joel Shit-maker was a joke. Nolan saved the franchise.

I'm having a hard time getting excited for this movie though. It all seems predictable. It'll probably be awesome, I hope it is, but haven't been excited about anything they're doing so far. Bane is cool, Catwoman is alright, but still...

@Fonzieismypal

For me, what makes Superman and Batman interesting and important is that they are one off in their own respective worlds and that was how they were created and that is how I see them.

Superman existing in batmans world and them meeting might be "important" for each of them as you said, but this is just the writers obviously justifying their decision to have them exist in the same world.

I find the ideas of these characters and their philosophies more interesting than I find when they are shown together interacting. It might be "awesome" to see them together on screen but I myself are more interested in them seperate and i believe that bringing them together ruins them, in the same way putting superman in wonderwomans world ruins the importantce of her.

It would be a tribute to one element of business and marketing in comic books that made a few interesting ideas about these hereos together and would be a great marketing tool for the movie. your right there.

As much as it is your opinion the problem with a character like batman who has been adapted and changed so much by different writers in different tones and aimed at different markets is that batman/bruce wayne is a character than anyone can take and interpret on film, in animation or on the page. Nolan is doing what he is doing and its critically and commercially successful. (im not even a nolan fan boy but you will automatically assume i am) taking batman and treating him in a certain way like nolan is doing is exactly what they did when they gave him a kid-sidekick as that was seen to be a way to get people buying comics but then lead to "important" stories in the comics, as did bringing him together with superman.

doing something like not including robin or not showing him with superman isnt a slight on batman at all or proof that nolan doesnt care about batman, it just shows that he has chosen what he as a professional thinks is best for the character.

I just happen to think what is best for bruce wayne is that we dont see him in the same world as superman as for me it is a lot less interesting and raises too many problems for my liking.

@Intruder

I wouldnt be bothered in the slightest unless it was done with actors, directors and writers I liked. But even then it was be sceptical of it.

Im not a comic fan, ive only read a few graphic novels that I had been told were readable. Im a fan of cinema who has become interested in movies in which comic book characters are shown. though this does not mean i dont have an understanding or respect for these characters but it does show that i more closely represent the target audience for these movies.

And again, from a great cinema and storytelling point of view, that I see nolan deals with i wouldnt be interested in seeing batman and superman on screen together. But from a mainstream entertainment point of view i guess i could be kinda "cool".

Im not a geek and i dont geek out. but i have nothing agaisnt those who do. as they are some of the most passionate people i know.

and cheers for loling at my name, that was the response i wanted.

@Intruder

ive never been bothered about the stealing of thunder (if anything thats something thor would be worried about).

Im talking specifically about the ideas that what makes these characters important as story telling tools and culturally is the idea of them on their own fighting their own villains.

you could argue multiple points on great ways the teaming up has been done in the comics but none of those would be as strong, in my opinion, as the original ideas of these characters on their own as singular heroes.
