The Wolverine To Start Filming This October; Set To Be Released In 2012!

Following the announcement that James Mangold will helm the movie, Hugh Jackman has now let slip that the movie will start filming later this year in preparation for a 2012 release...

After Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky pulled out, the fate of The Wolverine was left up in the air, with many believing that we wouldn't see the movie until as late as 2013 or 2014, despite the announcement of James Mangold being chosen to helm the project. Well, not so according to star Hugh Jackman. Here is an excerpt from The Playlist.

Speaking yesterday to the hugely irritating Darren Osborne of the Toronto radio station CHFI about his upcoming stage show coming to the Canadian city, Jackson let loose about the plans for the comic movie. "We shoot in October, so it will probably come out a year after that. That’s usually around the timeline," Jackman said.

What do you guys make of this? While there's nothing specific or official, I'd say the word of Wolverine himself is pretty reliable! Be sure to share your thoughts below.

Late 2012 or its just going to be a rushed piece of shit. But got faith in Mangold I loved 3:10 Yuma and Walk the Line so fingers crossed this works out. If its around november/december then I don't think theres any need to worry but if they try and release in Summer then Fox can [frick] themselves

It'll probably be a Thanksgiving release. Usually Summer, Thanksgiving and Christmas are the best time to release big movies. I doubt they want to release in Dec 2012 to complete with The Hobbit or Superman. November also keeps it from Spider-Man and Batman.

I don't care anymore. I have lost hope in a franchise that I fealt could be the Best CBM franchise ever. Then they had announced Arfonsky and the concept of "The Wolverine" I was pumped. Then Arfonsky left and everything started to sound like crap again.....

I smell a disaster lol. They mind as well let the Wayan's do it lol. FOX has no businesss doing Marvel Movies. It doesn't matter who directs the movie, FOX is gonna "Rape and cream pie" it. That's why Aronofsky left.

Can we not have more superhero films based on other characters? I'm one of the biggest X-Men fans out there, but I'm not a fan of Wolverine and the really refreshing thing about First Class was that he wasn't in it. I would love to see a Flash or Aquaman film or a Fathom film.

Good stuff, I'd like to see this movie sooner rather than later...as long as they give themselves enough time to film it properly that is.

I do think this will be a good movie as I doubt Fox will go down the "Origins" path again after the good response to First Class. The budget will probably be down a bit while the story and style should take centre stage. The director is solid, though he might not bring as fresh a take on a CBM that Aronofsky was sure to bring.

The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, The Amazing Spiderman, The Man of Steel and now The Wolverine! 2012 is going to be so sweet!!

Aronofsky is overrated and boring.

The Wrestler and Black Swan, in essence, are the same movie.

Props on him getting Portman to rub her gash on screen though.

I don't get why fox believe they have to release a movie every year? Just relax and give the X-Men a break.

Yeah, a wrestler and a psycho ballerina are the same thing. LOL
And I'm with @Xeninx, after the success that was First Class, I can see The Wolverine being awesome.

Cool! I guess?

I would be much more interested if the director would be someone like Takashi Miike (13 Assassins, Ichi The Killer) or Chan-wook Park (Oldboy)

On one hand, I really want this movie to fail because I want Hugh Jagoff OUT once and for all. But on the other hand, since he's pretty much cemented himself into the role of Wolverine to the general movie going audience, I fear a failure for this movie could mean we won't see Wolvie in movies for quite some time. What have we done! How could we let this guy be Wolverine? I've hated him since the first X-men movie. And as far as Mangold...who cares? Nothing interesting about that.

Just so they show the dark Wolverine than the bleeding heart liberal Wolverine. The first comics were based on his unpredictability. I like that. I'm looking forward to watching this more than Spiderman reboot.

ShadesAtKnight - 6/29/2011, 4:03 PM
Oh, that's not rushed at all...

So, will this take place in the same timeline as X1, X2, X3 and Origins, or X1, X2 and First Class...? NOT CONFUSING AT ALL MATTHEW VAUGHN!

make this real, make it gritty, make it gory, make it "R" ... we need a real wolverine on the screen

I wonder if Jackman can breathe any new life into his Wolverine anymore. I hate to say the 'r' word but it is possible somebody else might be better in the role.

@ ajax2: He directed Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Knight and Day and some others. When in doubt, check out IMDB.
