Zack Snyder Hires 300 Writer Kurt Johnstad To Rewrite Man of Steel!

Now that David Goyer is busy working on Godzilla, Zack Snyder has reportedly tasked 300 writer Kurt Johnstad to take a look at the script, while a certain Nolan brother has also taken a look...

According to the guys over at Moviehole, a couple of their more reliable scoopers have been in touch over the weekend with some very interesting news regarding upcoming Superman flick, Man of Steel. With Warner Bros. hiring David Goyer to pen Godzilla, Zack Snyder has had to look elsewhere, going back to 300 collaborator Kurt Johnstad and even letting Jonah Nolan (brother of The Dark Knight Rises director, Christopher) take a look.

Now that Goyer’s is off The Man of Steel and on to Godzilla, Snyder got Kurt Johnstad (whose his regular, go-to writer, including 300, that Last Photograph project that Bale’s attached to now originating from Snyder’s noggin and that 300 spin-off) to take over for rewrites. Jonah Nolan took a pass on it too.

What do you guys think of this news? Before you get too worried, it would appear that the two have been brought in for some simple rewrites (fairly common with movies such as this) but it's unclear as to just how much work they've don on the script. B suree to share your thoughts on this news in the usual place!

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

RELEASE DATE: Winter, 2012.

I'm glad Jonah Nolan took a pass. Memento was good, but the short story that he wrote that it was based on was not so good. The Dark Knight sucked and from what we've seen of The Dark Knight Rises, that looks to be just as cheesy too.

@Ghostt It's a fan made image of Cavill and Adams that's been spreading around the web. Some sites dubbed it as real, it was so convincing. :P
@Nephillim Don't think so, haven't seen it.
@Jazzman that article's apparently been deleted.

Rewrite work is generally fairly simple. Iron Man was getting rewrites DURING filming. It's hollywood.

Well at least that guarentee's awesome action. Goyer writing the script was one of the major confidences I had in this movie because of his success with The Dark Knight (and I think Batman Begins). But 300 was also great. I just hope this guy knows how to write a good Superman.

I have the feeling this movie is going to flop harder than the last one. The director put bad karma on this movie when he tried to bad mouth THOR so i will have a goods laugh when it tanks

as long as they write a great script and make a great movie i dont care if the screen writer would be Dolly Parton. :)

re-write?? I thought they were in the middle of making this? how is this gonna be ready for next winter? Marvel is blowing the doors off dc in all departments, they're just one big mess, i agree with intruder tdk is overrated

@ odinson11 He didn't bitch about Thor, he said how its crazy that there are obscure comic characters getting the big budget film treatment when the original Superhero hasn't made an impact in decades.

This is what Snyder had to say about THOR.

"I think Superman is broken and needs to be fixed, from a movie stand point. He is the biggest superhero on the planet, the father of every superhero. I'm like really Thor? Thor has a movie? like really? And there is no Superman movie. It's like the World is out of balance. It's like we lost our mind here people, come on. I really feel like if we can make a cool Superman movie, look when Chris(Nolan) and Emma(Thomas) asked us to go to lunch they told us their story of what they wanted to do with Superman. And before I was like 'I don't know'."

@PaulRom

thats b.s. cause that person posted before this article.

@DCMovieFanatic

i agree that person posted their article before this one and they got deleted thats f**ked up.

@Nephillim

they not rewritting the whole script. they got this writer to add more or less to the story. even Iron Man, X-Men: First Class, and other movies had other writers.

@MegaMattMOS

David S. Goyer did not write the script to TDK he came up with the story, he co-wrote Batman Begins script.
PaulRom
PaulRom - 7/17/2011, 7:34 AM
@DCMovieFanatic I can relate, I once posted a Gary Oldman TDKR interview a long time ago, but was deleted because it was 'posted already' and an editor didn't post it until AFTER I did. Also, I was the first one to report Josh Pence's involvement with TDKR but was deleted because it was 'copy and paste' (when I've used just as much C&P on an article or two which hit main). Some of the editors are [frick]ed up sometimes.
PaulRom
PaulRom - 7/17/2011, 7:36 AM
@Jazzman Agreed, but I think Jim says that 'the best article' will be the one that'll be accepted. I didn't see the previous article about rewriting MOS but I think it could've been accepted.

Here we go... I pray that this is minor and normal. This movie MUST be perfect
PaulRom
PaulRom - 7/17/2011, 7:36 AM
Also, Jim says that anything that can be salvaged shouldn't be deleted. This rule's been abused plenty of times.
Ethic
Ethic - 7/17/2011, 7:37 AM
Because the general public knew sweet [frick] all about Marvel's Thor til the last few years.
It's crazy in the sense that if we had gathered peoples opinions a few decades ago about what comic characters would be a success in cinema, Superman would be way up on(or near) the top and Thor most likely wouldn't even be on the list.
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 7/17/2011, 7:37 AM
Did I just get a troll stamp for saying TDK sucked? That's kind of funny. Any which way you slice it, Goyer is the reason Begins was so perfect and Nolan was the reason TDK was so cheesy. Seriously., it was very, very cheesy. You can't see that?

Dynamo

He didn't badmouth Thor, he just said he couldn't believe that there's a Thor movie coming out before a Superman movie. Since he considers Superman the "King of All Superheroes". I can't really disagree with him.
odinson11
odinson11 - 7/17/2011, 7:41 AM
@zeroethic he shouldnt have mentioned thor, isnt he suppose to be talking about the movie that he is making? its not marvels fault that dc has made craptastic superman movies.

@'truder - Since the plot of the movie's about Zod using Zaora to start a New Kryponian race, he might assualt Lois to show why human women can't handle Kryptonian pregnancies. Mallrats springs to mind.
Ethic
Ethic - 7/17/2011, 7:48 AM
@ Odinson11
"he shouldn't have mentioned Thor" why?
Because film-makers aren't allowed reference other comic book movies?
He didn't attribute fault to Marvel at all, he said the idea that the most iconic superhero of all hasn't been a success in film is crazy when obscure characters have been a success.
You can keep thinking its some kind of DC/Marvel crap but it's a legitimate statement that most people would agree with.
You think in 1995 people would have said Thor would be much more successful in the film world than Superman?

u kidding right Batman Begins was cheesy also. David Goyer is not a good writer on his own he only works well when its been co-written with someone else.

its know Goyer is a very weak writer, he got good ideas for story but apart from that his a bad writer.
