SDCC '11: Guillermo Del Toro And Ron Perlman Still Interested In "Epic, Gigantic" Hellboy 3!

Earlier today, both the director and Hellboy himself have expressed interest in making a third Hellboy movie, saying they have no intention of letting down fans, and will deliver something "epic"...

Earlier today during the "FilmDistrict" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, fans quizzed both Guillermo Del Toro And Ron Perlman about the possibility of a third instalment in the Hellboy franchise. While there don't seem to be any immediate plans, neither the director of lead actor are ruling out once again bringing the character to the big screen. Here is an excerpt from The Playlist's report.

"'Hellboy 2' was tough. Both of us walked away from that a little bit, 'Do I ever want to revisit this?' But then with the luxury of time and looking at it in an objectified way...We were beat up at the end of it," Perlman said. "He always looked at it as a trilogy and there were things that were unresolved. So for us to not make it would be letting down people who invested in the first two. It’s epic what he wants to do, but it would be cinematic and well worth doing."

And Del Toro echoes the sentiments of the franchise star. "Each of those moves has been an incredible ordeal to make. The third one is the hardest one because it’s the darkest one...And if it’s not Ron, I don’t want to make it. The third one is epic, it’s gigantic."

When Del Toro says its going to be epic, it will be epic, and it will be dark. Hellboy without Ron Perlman is not Hellboy.

Yeah man the trilogy must be complete, but damn how many movies Del Toro got on his plate? Dude needs to prioritize himself.

i HELLA wanna see a third hellboy movie...but i know del toro is to busy to make it so its never gonna happen...that [frick]er leaves us with hellboy having kids and we'll never see how it ends...

HellBoy II rocked! It's understandable why Pearlman would be tired of it after the sequel though. He spent what? 27 hours a day in make up? I'd be sick of it too. I really hope they both tough it out and give us an epic conclusion.

Glad to see this! In past news it seemed like they weren't going to even try considering time, but I knew Guillermo del Toro has a lot of passion for it. I hope it is made.

Nice. The first two are all around good fun CBM's. 3rd should be equally entertaining.

The Hellboy films are a prime example of a sequel improving on the original.

Hellboy 2 was kinda like The Dark Knight but with colour, fun and imagination.

I so want the third film to happen.

Petition time?

Del Toro is a genius. And Perlman is such an underrated actor. (Check out The Name of the Rose, and City of Lost Children on the same night.) If it's not him, I'm not remotely interested!
