Thanks to Newsarama, we have the following highlights from the "Year of the X-Men" panel at the San Diego Comic Con. Be sure to click the link below to head on over to the site for even more details about the future of Marvel's merry mutants as well as even MORE preview art.
On the panel: Axel Alonso, Chris Yost, Daniel Way, Marjorie Liu, Peter David and Rick Remender.
Marvel's Arune Singh says that the end of Schism and Fear Itself is leading to a very significant point in Marvel history.
Singh says Schism will have a "major impact" on the future of Generation Hope, and you'll see something about the future of one of those characters that will either make fans love or hate Marvel.
Here's some news - coming October 2011, an X-Men: Regenesis one-shot by Kieron Gillen and Billy Tan.
Lowe calls Wolverine and the X-Men the "craziest X-Men you can imagine," and the new Uncanny "the biggest superhero action you can possibly fathom."
The Uncanny X-Men image has Emma Frost on it, for whatever that's worth. Singh make note of the fact that there's no Cyclops in the image.
There will be a change in membership of Uncanny X-Force after The Dark Angel Saga.
The FF are going to be showing up in the Victor Gischler-written X-Men series.
Here's an announcement: October 2011, a 20th anniversary edition of X-Men #1, with recolored art.
Coming up in Wolverine - Ron Garney returns to art, with Jason Aaron writing a story where he has to leave San Francisco. Upon leaving the Bay, he finds out that someone has stolen a stash of money from him, and Logan embarks on getting revenge.
Singh says there's a reason so many Marvel characters, like Daken, are moving to LA.
Now time for audience Q&A.
Will Wolverine be in X-Force when Schism is over? Remender: "I don't want to give anything away, but there's a good chance he'll have something to do with the team."
Why scrap the Uncanny numbering? Alonso said they didn't make the decision lightly, and it's because the new #1 represents a "fundamental" change in the book. "It's a controversial decision, and we're aware people don't like it, but we're sticking with it," Alonso continued.
Any Darwin in the future? David: "Yes. Darwin will be back. The storyline won't start until more of the #230s."
Relationship between Hope and Jean Grey? "It could be pure coincidence that she has red hair and green eyes," Alonso said, which drew some laughs. Singh said that they can't say anything about it since it plays heavily into what's planned for Schism and Regenesis.
Conflict between Avengers and Uncanny X-Men? Alonso said there's a reason that Fear Itself and Schism end at the same time, and next summer, all eyes will be on the X-Men (though that doesn't necessarily mean fisticuffs).
Alonso continued by saying that readers shouldn't assume Cyclops will be around after Schism, and perhaps another character will be representing his ideals.
Can X-Men characters be used in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes? Yost says that they can use pretty much everyone, and you'll see more of the MU as a whole in the second season.
"Are you killing Cyclops?" Alonso: "Did we kill Cable?"
Iceman has a big role to play "in one of the books coming at the end of the year," Singh says obliquely.
