"Oscar For Andy" Fan Campaign Ramps Up For Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes!

After reviewers almost unanimously praised actor Andy Serkis for his motion capture role of Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, talk soon began about the actor being nominated for an Oscar. There are many, many sites out there who have found good reason for why exactly his performance deserves a nomination (or even a win) but one group of fans have taken it upon themselves to get the word out there with the "Oscar For Andy" campaign on Twitter and Facebook.

Having seen the movie twice since it was released, I don't think there can be any doubt that Serkis deserves some recognition for his work in terms of awards. While he's already brought characters like Gollum and King Kong to life on the big screen with motion capture, Caesar was undoubtedly his best performance yet. And that's exactly what it is. While we may not see him up there, there's no way that any of these characters would have been the same had they been nothing more than pure CGI creations.

So, here is how you can support the "Oscar For Andy" campaign. Just click on the images below to find them on Twitter and Facebook. And be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

Andy Serkis as Caesar

He undoubtably gave an awesome performance. This was his best yet. To not give him an Oscar would be a sin.

A nomination. Im not saying he should win until we see all the other performances he will be up against.

And "Catwoman1" wouldnt he be nominated for best actor if anything considering he has more screen-time than Franco?

About [frick]ing time! He should have been nominated for gollum and smeagol sequence from the LOTR. Incredible actor.

It's the CGI that should win, not the bloke wearing the capture suit, jesus. Go watch Burke and Hare, it's terrible.

I think too early to talk about him winning the oscar, years not over yet, should he be nominated definitely but if he isn't I wouldn't be surprised the Oscars are great at snubbing great performances.

I can't imagine that he'd win. He might could squeeze out a nomination foe best supporting actor, but I doubt he'd win.

@Denn1s: so you're saying he doesn't deserve it? cause Saldana was awful in "Avatar".

tea@ All the emotion in that ape was in his eyes and facial movements, thats CGI not Serkis, sorry Tea, your wrong. Don't get me wrong, he's good at what he does, but there are thousands of great motion capture actors who are just as good.

He already go [frick]ed out of the Oscar for Gollum in Lotr, if he doesnt get it for Planet of the Apes, thats fine but he BETTER get it for the Hobbit

One of these pictures screams pain, fear, raw emotion, powerful thoughts going on in a brain, the other looks like Mr Bean, now, who gets the Oscar?

I haven't seen a film which uses Motion Capture yet and thought "hell, thats bad" or "christ, thats great" because I'm watching the fictional character on the screen, not the MC actor. Beowulf, although a pretty crap film, used it and it was great, but the CGI afterwards was no where near as good as it was in Apes so we arn't raving about that. The CGI here was so sharp and convincing that we now want to give Serkis an oscar, for acting like a chimp. I used to do that with my daughter every day and she told all her school friends daddy was a monkey, so it really isn't that hard. Sex & Drugs.... was a fantastic film and a great performance, give him an award for that.

I'm back. The thought of nominating Serkis for Best Actor, as a lot of people are shouting, is just silly. If he was made up in prosthetic makeup and gave the same performance I doubt many people would be screaming oscar. This is simply because the tech boys who did the CGI work were so amazing THEY created caeser. Again, I'm not knocking Serkis, he's great, but oscar talk is nonsense. You can not possibly put Serkis in the same elite club with members that include Pacino, Hoffman and De Niro. It's a chimp for goodness sake.

I haven't said his performance is obsolete anywhere, I said he dosen't deserve an oscar. They couldn't have done it without him just the same as they couldn't have done the film without the lighting guys or the sound guys.
