Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Expresses Interest In Playing Luke Cage On The Big Screen! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Expresses Interest In Playing Luke Cage On The Big Screen!

I've been a fan of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for as long as I can remember. Anyone who has ever watched him in the WWE (formerly the WWF) will know just how great an athlete he is, and how entertaining his segments on the microphone always were, and still are. Like many wrestling fans, I was disappointed when he decided to leave and pursue acting, and while some films weren't great, there's no denying just how good he's been in all of them. Personally, I would love to see him in a superhero role sometime in the near future, and when the opportunity arose on Twitter earlier tonight to ask him which one he'd be most interested in playing, I was luck enough to receive the following answer...

I love Luke Cage as a character and can't wait for Marvel Studios to get him up on the big screen where he belongs. I'm not sure about you, but I think Johnson would kick all kinds of ass in the role! I must confess that I've never considered him for it in the past, but I certainly wouldn't complain if he nabbed the part in an adaptation. What do you guys think? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place, and you can find him on Twitter by clicking on the link below.

@Logunvadercap If he's black enough to play Roadblock, he can do Cage.

He isn't my first choice for the role, but I wouldn't say no if he was cast.

You know what? He is not my first pick at all, but with his name on it, Luke Cage might actually get done. Also I could see the Rock saying "Sweet Christmas!".

Better than that other annoying guy who hired himself.

Also, The Rock acts solid, we've seen worse from professional actors.

He just needs to spend a little more time in the sun.

Can't really comment on it as I've only ever come across Cage in Web of Shadows...

half black half samoan plus a former college football standout
action movies are his venue to shine in all honesty and a cbm would be a match made perfect for a guy with his talents and presence

If Spiderman can be black and latino mix why can't Luke Cage be a mixed race?

Jack ass the rock is half black.

on the topic, I think he would be great for the role. He's size, and his acting. I like what he did in the Fast five.

Black?! UH, The Rock doesnt even consider himself black lol....He considers himself Half canadian & Half samoan.

I cant see him as BLACK ADAM. (For one he's not middle-eastern...and I dont think he'll be able to pull off the middle-eastern accent)

I cant see him being Luke Cage either.

Give a BETTER ACTOR THE PART....Stick to your Disney movies DWAYNE! LOL

Isiah Mustafa is Garbage and not black enough? I hope the Rock punches your candy ass in the face for that dumb ass remark. Do you mean his skin is not dark enough?

When will people learn that the role should go to the actor how can make the character believable and bring the role to life like Robert D. Jr did with Tony Starks.

@Misterdecay, bro im not big on race shit...i jus like to see how it is portrayed on the big screen (but cmon, i cant see a black comic book hero becoming white on screen) I wud love to see how it wud turn out but i jus cant imagine it... :( (also the rock is all small now, compared to the old way his body was)

i put The Rock as Cage in a fan cast i did earlier this year to mostly negative reception. But I [frick]ing love the guy, I remember watching WWF with my dad when I was like 6, and he was always one of my favourites! I think I stopped watching when he quit the ring.

At first I thought his acting wasnt very good, but he's definitely improved. He's probably the only example of a wrestler becoming a successful actor that I can think of (at least, the only one I think is actually a good actor!)

Sure he's played some shitty roles but what actor hasnt? He's great in action roles, with a bit of drama but mostly big explosions and lots of fun, with that cocky Rock charm. Cant really ask for much more from a Power Man movie (I hope they dont call him Power Man in the film tho, sounds a bit too '70s)

He's definitely got my vote, I hope he nabs this role.

"Can you smellllllllllllll what the Rock is cookin'?"

For the hundreth [frick]ing time, he's half black and half samoan. Why is that so hard to grasp? Some of you people need to do some google research before posting stupid ass comments like logun's.

@ Returnhanger

AGREED! LOL

@ CrashTest
You need to search up his interviews...lol. He never says he BLACK. lol His father was black-canadian but...you'll never hear him praise that lol

He alll about SAMOAN THIS....And SAMOAN THAT...I can already see the negative angry comic nerds if they choose him to be Luke Cage.

I say choose someone full black..great acting skills...and someone UNDER_RATED....that wants to have a break-out career...The Rock lost my respect when he made TOOTHFAIRY and Escape to Witch Mountain.

... I'm going to start asking young latina actresses if they'd like to play Arana, and then act as if them saying yes magically makes an Arana film more possible.
