The actor once again comments on the immense pressure of following on from the late Heath Ledger's Oscar winning take on The Joker, while also discussing what it's like working with Christopher Nolan and more...

Talking to scotsman.com about his roles in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Warrior, British actor Tom Hardy has also commented briefly on the pressure he feels playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, as well as how working with a director like Christopher Nolan ultimately effects his performance. There's nothing too revealing here, but I don't think it will come as a huge surprise to anyone that Nolan has "carte blanche" with Warner Bros after the huge success of The Dark Knight and Inception! Here is an excerpt from the report.

That film won't be in cinemas until July of next year, but it's a measure of Hardy's rising reputation that his casting was met with near universal approval from the notoriously prickly fan community, especially since expectations have been stoked to fever pitch ever since the late Heath Ledger's deranged, frightening turn as the Joker in The Dark Knight redefined what a comic book villain could be.

"It is a little daunting," admits Hardy. "I want to do well, but I'm with the right team. I mean, Chris Nolan is brilliant. And he has relative carte blanche with the studios at the moment, so to step into a situation with a larger-than-life character in a larger-than-life world that is fully articulated and gearing up with such a massive amount of financial and creative support, it's a fantastic opportunity."

Hardy is a fantastic actor, Warrior only reinforced that for me. I think he will do Bane justice.

The only way this movie could get more awesome, is if they get Stan Bush instead of Hans Zimmer to do the soundtrack.

I like that Hardy fully understands the scope and expectations of the film he's in. He's aware, unlike some actors who have taken on CBM roles who are always uncertain about their own project in when interviewed- often, HOPING, taht it's going to be good.

I respect Hardy.

@Lucaxmen That's an interesting poll. I don't have any [frick]s to hand out for Ghost Rider 2, but the other villains are worthy of my consideration.

The new Spider-man has very little appeal to it, but I always wanted to see the Lizard on screen. Not knowing how he will look or be portrayed has me skeptical, but I'm anticipating the Lizard to be the best part of the movie.

I didn't kow why Nolan chose Bane for his "realistic" Batman movies. Why use a character that is fully based on unrealistic properties if those properties are to be stripped from him? Why use him? But I understand; Batman needs a physical foe so that he can be, Batman. I wanted the Riddler but that would translate into another Joker-like villan. I'm expecting Bane to be a surprise. It's highly unlikely that Nolan would make a choice without solid reasoning.

Watching THOR all weekend. Tom is an excellent actor. I would easily say Loki, but I'm not sure how the writing and the unseasoned director will effect how awesome he is or isn't. I'm sure he'll make gold out of whatever he's given.

Hard to choose in the poll, but I definitely have my eye on all of them- Loki and Bane for the most part.

To me TDKR looks to be the most comic bookish movie Nolan has done. With the Batplane and bat cave bane, catwoman. Looking good.
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 9/18/2011, 6:03 PM
@BooYah Yeah, I get the feeling he's easing off the "realism" button a little for the last film. They already play like graphic novels, but it would be nice to get a touch of that colorful comicbook stuff in there.
