Felicity Jones And Rooney Mara Among Those Eyed For Gareth Edwards' STAR WARS Spinoff
With the first Star Wars spinoff set to be released next year, we're finally getting some casting news, with a number of actresses including Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) being eyed for a lead role in the movie from Godzilla director Gareth Edwards...
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany is testing for the lead female role in Gareth Edwards' secretive Star Wars spinoff. It's believed that it will focus on a group of bounty hunters hired by the Rebels to steal the plans of the first Death Star, but that's little more than a rumour at this point. Also set to test for the role this week is Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara, and both will apparently be joined by a handful of other actresses not named by the site. One they do say the studio is keen to meet with is British actress Felicity Jones. She was wasted in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as "Felicia", but recently scored an Oscar nomination for The Theory of Everything. Scheduling issues could stop it from happening however.
The site adds that despite recent reports of Simon Kinberg taking over writing duties on the spinoff, that may not actually be the case due to his commitments to Josh Trank's 2018 Star Wars movie (which he's penning with Lawrence Kasdan), X-Men: Apocalypse, and the current Fantastic Four reshoots. Who will take over from Gary Whitta remains to be seen. Which of these actresses do you most hope ends up nabbing the role? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place!
