Jason Statham Drops Out Of DAREDEVIL Negotiations After News Of His Involvement Leaked?
This is the problem with rumours. According to a new report, Jason Statham was indeed in negotiations to play Bullseye in the second season of Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil, but yesterday's leak has apparently killed the deal. What went wrong? Hit the jump for details...
Rumours are great and all, but there's a serious downside to them when it comes to casting in particular. Yesterday, Latino-Review revealed that Jason Statham was in talks to play Bullseye in season two of Daredevil, news which was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the British actor "was legitimately in heavy negotiations for the role and the leak killed it. Perhaps his agent saw the positive uproar and instantly upped the actor’s asking fee? Perhaps the studio spotted the same excited reaction and preemptively killed the deal out of fear of Statham’s management going for more money? Who knows. The bottom line is that yesterday the Crank star was at the top of the list and deep in negotiations and today Marvel has moved on to other pastures." Each of those possible theories make perfect sense.
There's nothing to say he would have definitely landed the role of course, but this seems awfully similar to what happened with Joaquin Phoenix and Doctor Strange last year. Collider jumped the gun by reporting that the actor had landed the role, everyone got excited, and the deal suddenly fell apart. It's doubtful that Statham's recent comments about Marvel movies have anything to do with this, and he may have in fact made those because his Bullseye would have brought something different to that world in terms of practical fight scenes. Now though, I guess we'll never know!
